  • I hope none of these buggers were around Fukushima when the tsunami hit the atomic reactors!===spiderzilla!

  • Anyone else look around their room for spiders while watching this?

  • wow the guy in the video sounds totally like wee man from jackass

  • do these spiders bite you?

  • Dear huntsman spider, say hello to my flametrower !!! Jipikajéé Mthrfckr

  • out of nowhere one 10 times bigger comes into the screen... that was just the baby... AHHH

  • wow I knew we had huntsmen here in Australia but I never knew they had em in japan as well. I bet their faster and more efficient.. lol GET IT?! :P

  • These videos are really good! Nice to hear someone on youtube who isn't a high pitched 12 year old :P

  • Nice video. Good to see someone that has an interest in observing animals rather than irritating them or killing 'em.

  • There are spiders Japan ?

    Ughh ..

  • We have them in Australia too.. They're really chilled out. They just sit on your wall.. ours hardly move actually.. Harmless as anything.

  • you have a crazy fetish dude

  • fuck that ant has some balls o.O

  • is it eating ants?

  • What a graceful beautfiul creature. Excellent footage.

  • Exactly how fast can these spiders run?

  • @gevoman1 Not as fast as me! :-) Seriously though, I am not sure though they seem to move with lightning speed around the walls of my home. ~Kurt :-)

  • @softypapa do they bite & kill people?

  • @1990babyface

Huntsman spiders can't kill you they tend to avoid humans but they sure don't avoid my house! If you were bitten by one of them you wouldn't get anything worse than nausea and a headache.

  • @clashdo How bad of a headache? Like a near death headache? Nausea?

  • @1990babyface

Really not that bad, I'm sure you would've experienced worse headaches already. Do you mean how bad is the Nausea or what is Nausea? If you've ever had motion sickness in the car or on a ferry it's pretty similar on both levels.

  • @clashdo Yeah I was asking how bad is the nausea? And do They live in your house?

  • @gevoman1 They can run a yard per second. Found out on animal planet.

  • @gevoman1 My best guess is somewhere between 2-4 kilometers an hour

  • @gevoman1 Not sure about the huntsman but the camel spider (which isnt a spider) can run up to 10mph, which is pretty damn fast.

  • This spider is much prettier than the Australian huntsman spider, which also blends seamlessly into it's natural habitat.

  • Spiders are actually good insects because they hunt and kill other bugs or pests like Cockroaches

  • Im from australia, having said that ive had to grow up around spiders like this (and far worse) all my life. Huntsman spiders dont often bite, infact its very very rare. I would have no problems what so ever in picking that thing up.....and feeding it to my Bearded Dragon...

  • its like a weird mix between a bug and a mammal. Its like a furry crab haha.

  • I would have a heart attack if I saw one of those in my house.

  • Wow

  • two words... FUCK THAT

  • AHHHGHGHGHH KILL IT KILL IT

  • why is call Huntsman....IT HUNTS MAN! GTFO! BRO

  • He's kinda cute. lol.

  • You know what? I wish we could hold these like tarantulas because that would be really nice. Can you imagine holding one of those suckers on your shoulder?

  • @heartachingpain I couldn't imagine holding one of these as they move so fast I would be certain it might be on my face in a flash. Yikes! Have a great day! ~Kurt :-)

  • This was a really good video of the huntsman up close and personal Kurt, nice shooting! I always like to watch them clean and taste their foot pads as this one was doing a lot of in its grooming.

    Bob

  • @BobCsAll I remember this spider which I really enjoyed filming as it seemed so comfortable even when I tried to get the camera near. These spiders normally move like the wind when I try to get close and it was a lucky day to meet this more relaxed specimen. Thanks for watching! I can't wait to get out at dawn and look for spiders! ~Kurt :-)

  • @softypapa This is a really good video, tho I like how you've put in the description bar at the top how the spider in the video is quite small! That thing looks bloody massive and if i found that in my house i would run a mile. The thought of that thing getting bigger doesn't sound great lol!

  • at 1:07 the spiders like "i see you now get the fuck away"

    XD

  • How come I can never have my feet on the floor while watching a video like this?!

  • @Belenor Great comment! Thanks for watching and sharing! ~Kurt :-)

  • Comment removed

  • @Belenor same here! I'm sitting like some kind of ball on my chair xD God bless Sweden and it's miniature insects!

  • How big can they get.

  • @KikeMexicovergero The biggest I have seen are about the size of a dinner plate. And these big boys run FAST! Thanks for watching. ~Kurt :-)

  • @softypapa a dinner plate wtf!! lol

  • @softypapa dude... that is fucked up! Are they in the US? And if so where

  • Really great video! I love how you were able to get REALLY close to the spider and pick up all the details of his features. They fascinate me but I'm terrified of them at the same time. I'm trying to get over my fear of spiders. Not that I'll pick one up anytime soon, LOL!

  • @mmmbad Thank you for watching and for sharing your thoughts about the video. I was rather surprised that the spider let me get as close as I did and very happy to have a chance to see (and share) the image details. It is almost big spider time again here in Japan and I hope to get some better video with a new HD camera. I hope that you are able to become more comfortable with spiders. I share your fear and know how it feels. Have a great day! ~Kurt :-)

  • ...the spider from earlier. So, I piss bolt of my bed, turn the light on, shit scared, and check my foot. I don't see any bite marks or anything, but I know where I had my foot there is nothing sharp there... So, I go on the net and look up the effects of a Huntsman (because I already nkow the effects of Violin Spider: Could lose my foot) and research it... They are minor, thankfully, but yeah... Still kind of scared! Anyway, thought i'd share my story that just happened. :/

  • Hello mohmarine, That is an amazing and rather spooky story. I wonder if you were really bitten? I've heard that the bite of a huntsman is very painful. Thank you for sharing. -Kurt :-)

  • Hehe, thank you. Uhm... I don't think I was bitten, after all :]]]

  • OMG!! Earlier on, I saw this spider, it was eithe a Huntsman or a Brown Recluse Spider (I think it was a Huntsman), and anyway, I threw a shirt at it, hoping to kill it (I know, it sounds bad but it scared the shit out of me, plus it was near me, in my territory) and it ran off... NEAR MY BED! So, later on, I forget about it... I go to my bed and feel a feeling in my foot as if I have just stepped on a tack or needle... I lift my foot up to see what it is... Nothing is there... The I remember...

  • hehe, cute how he's grooming himself for the camera :-) very nice video!

  • wow, if my mum saw this she'd freak!

  • It's really cool that you reply to the comments.

  • Hello koolaid1989, It's my sincere pleasure! -Kurt :-)

  • can i get it on israel?

  • Hello geva90, I just checked a Wikipedia distribution map for these spiders and the map seems to show that Huntsmen are indeed found in Israel. I hope that you can see some! -Kurt :-)

  • Great video, I love spiders, even though I have been bitten 7 times

  • Hello maha77, Wow, that's amazing that you have been bitten so many times! Were the bites from a single spider species or have you been bitten by various types of spiders? Have you been bitten by a Huntsman spider? I'd love to hear your stories and what effects the bites had (hopefully nothing too bad or painful occured). -Kurt :-)

  • HAHA SILLY BILLY!

  • Great video! I'm scared to death of them, yet they fascinate me!

  • Hello mmmbad, These spiders (and most spiders in general) have the same effect on me as well. I enjoy watching and learning about them yet jump to the moon whenever they make an unexpected appearance (especially the big ones!) in my home. -Kurt :-)

  • are spiders good to have around plants? eat the bugs so you dont have to use inectacids, or are they jsut dangerous because you might be bitten?

  • Hello MatthewDLG, I believe that in general spiders are beneficial as I do not think they damage plants themselves and they may help rid plants of some pests. Dangerous spiders can certainly be a problem though when they come in contact with people. The Brazilian Wandering spider is one such spider which causes problems for banana growers in the tropics. -Kurt :-)

  • That looks like a pretty intense critter!

  • Hello BusanKevin, This spider is indeed an amazing animal. I enjoy watching them moving with grace and speed through my in-law's home (old fashioned Japanese house). I am hoping for a chance to film a full size specimen in action! -Kurt :-)

  • That spider is not dangerous to humans is it?

  • Hello Dave, Huntsman are not considered particularly dangerous though people who are allergic to their venom may have problems if bitten. I have spoken with several farmers in our area and eveyone has claimed that the bite is mild. These spiders do sometimes cause traffic accidents when they drop from the car vison onto the driver and give the driver a shock! The spiders like to come indoors in wet weather and a car window left cracked open is a welcome invitation. -Kurt :-)

  • now that is funny... do they cause so many accidents that its a notable cause. Well thanks for taking the time to talk to me and see you some time in the future

  • Hi Dave, It's truly my pleasure to have the chance to chat and share with you and I can't wait to hear about your planned trip to Japan! Please keep me informed of how things are going. -Kurt :-)

  • Oh, and thank you for sending the video about the dangerous of driving with Huntsman in the car! I'd flip if that happened to me and I love these spiders! -Kurt :-)

  • Mhmm, his camera is pretty impressive. It's almost like a nature documentary, with how much he got. Well done, Kurt :)

    ~Kat

  • Hi Kat, Actually my camera is a very low-end model almost five years old. I was able to get a few good shots by filming the spider from a variety of angles for almost 45 minutes. 90% of the images were very poor though the few good shots where light and angle cooperated nicely were the ones which made it into the video. Are you planning any tea ceremony this week? -Kurt :-)

  • Your camera works quite well with the close-ups. It seems like you have a love of insects, or at least you seemed to know quite a bit about that kind of spider :)

I don't like spiders at all, I am not fearful of very many things, but spiders are one of them.

    Good footage none the less.

  • I enjoy animals in general though especially those which creep, crawl, slither and slime their way through the world. If they have more than one set of eyes then all the better! Thanks for watching and commenting! -Kurt :-)

  • Very interesting, funny that the spider didn't grab that ant that went right in front of it. Maybe it was just not hungry, or more interested in keeping an eye on you. Thanks Kurt for another very educational video. Keep em coming........Doug

  • Hi tbone1143, I was wondering about this as well. I have seen other spiders ignore ants and I was suspicious if ants may simply not offer much sustanance or if they simply taste bad. I'd love to know the answer and hope someone might chime in if they know. Thanks for watching and commenting by the way! -Kurt :-)

  • typo: you are*

  • it seems your really interested in bugs. Nice video :D

  • I'm a certified (or certifiable) bug nut! I also love spiders, worms, leeches and all other examples of the wonderful diversity of life! Thanks for watching and commenting! -Kurt :-)

  • It's probably a good thing you didn't come across the 12 inch version!! I can't imagine how that would look!! Great video.

  • I see bigger huntsmen fairly regularly (including inside my home) during mid and late summer and I will certainly try to film a large huntsman later this year. Thanks for watching and commenting! -Kurt :-)
