I love the bit with the small boy throwing the cabbage at the Lion ([8.30]. in the drama, it seems the lion is tamed by the master, and the small boy senses this weakness and feels safe to throw. These are all Brits putting on the performance, so please excuse them if there are a few mistakes.

You are incredibly observant to notice this: congratulations!! The reason appears to be that the Front person at the start must be stronger than the tail, so about 10 seconds after the switch, he has move to the rear so that he can lift his partner onto his shoulders and walk around upright.
