Ya' know for such a peaceful guy like John, this song seems sort a' cruel. I mean when John was young supposedly he was very violent. Does anyone agree?
@ lika....You got that right. Admittedly, stalking is fucked up, but all this politically correct crap is out of control! If you want to build trust you need to be honest with yourself and each other 1st. Say what's on your mind and take what comes like a man! The haters are still out there. They're just hiding behind smiles now! Last place I worked they said "Black" was politically incorrect now too? WTF? Martin Luther King Jr. and the Chicago 7 might have a thing or two to say about that.
I love this song it shows the true side of all the scumbag worthless piece of shit hippie bastards, funny how the "Greatest Generation" survives all that they did so after the war they spoil their kids not wanting them to see all the bad they did & what do yah get the "Worst Generation"
JOHN 1980: "It has a line from an old Presley song. 'I'd rather see you dead little girl than to be with another man' is a line from an old blues song that Presley did once. Just sort of a throw-away song of mine that I never thought much of... but it was always a favorite of George's."
@kaylakane69 Shut up with all that crap. Every generation of men expresses these same disgusting thoughts. What you want to call the "worst generation" was the first generation to find something wrong with the idea of men threatening women with murder to control them.
John Lennon and Paul McCartney couldn't be UNCOOL if they tried! These guys, along with George and Ringo, founded mainstream Rock-&-Roll - TOTALLY COOL!! :)
@likamoosica Most radio stations in Canada won't play this song -- even their "request" lines -- because the feminuts are convinced it causes "violence against women". Political "correctness" is a nasty epidemic disease of our times.
@KaptKan1 Any radio station that would ban any Beatle song would lose money and perish! The Beatles are still the greatest and most popular singing sensation ever!
@gbolt619 You're right about the Beatles, but unfortunately those radio stations are doing well because they are fairly quiet about it. Dire Straits' song, "Money For Nothing" is banned in several provinces of Canada because it has the word "faggot", too. The disease of censorship is bad and getting worse.
Hell, I don't like the words to "Run For Your Life" myself, but the MUSIC is great, and I just remember that it's a song ABOUT some guy's attitude, not an endorsement of it.
@HammerFist1970 I haven't heard it in years, but you never know; some of the radio stations show some guts once in a while. That said, the "politically correct" censors never sleep; somebody might be having an unapproved thought.
I read that even though George liked this song a lot, John regretted ever writing this. So, he wrote Jealous Guy as his apologetic song. Despite the lyrics, it's still a catchy tune.
On October 9th we will all watch "Imagine" in honor of the greatest singer ever's birthday. Let's give him the best birthday present ever: the highest viewed video on YouTube!! Let's give him what he deserves and what Justin Bieber does not deserve to have!

you know, my uncle died falling into a pot of boiling cheese. And that's no joke. He was trying to set a world record for most melted Cheddar cheese, and was so close, too. But he did like the beatles quite a lot and im sure he's in a better place now and can listen to all the music he wants.
This is like the anthem for wife beaters - how did I not notice this when it first came out???Horrible lyrics - you couldn't get airplay today with them.
Although this song is incredibly misogynistic and kind of psychotic, I usually follow it up by listening to Lennon's Jealous Guy. It flows nicely together.
@constanttestofwill If I had a girlfriend who cheated on me I would be very upset, obviously, but I certainly would not wish death upon her. that's just sick. And this song isn't even about a death wish, it's about actually threatening murder, with obvious undercurrents of misogynism. I can't tell whether John intended the song as a warning about extreme jealousy or as an actual expression of his own feelings, but If it's the second one, then I just can't respect John.
@DevonKennedy2 John wrote a lot of songs about pride getting in the way of relationships (She Loves You, You Can't Do That, Yes It Is, I'm a Loser, Jealous Guy). As far as his motivation, I imagine it was a little of both, an admission of thoughts he had, and also a warning to others about the dangers of pride.
why are the top two comments both religion based. I don't think that any comments on songs, especially the beatles, should associate with religion. Just keep it pure.
@Rhesputan keep your ignorant opinion to yourself, people have the right to post what they want. further, none of the comments have anything to do with religion. one mentions heaven, which is a universal term, and the other mentions someone's Youtube username. who the hell are you to think that comments should not be associated with religion to begin with? how's this ...jesus, church, temple, masque, cross, buddha, allah, god, hare krishna.....are you offended now?
@YanksFan162 Dude, forget it, im sorry, but that's how i feel. Deal with it. Besides, like you said, people have the freedom to comment on whatever they want on youtube. Plz don't respond.
The lyrics are downright horrible. Was John kidding, or was he just a misogynistic jerk? Besides this Rubber Soul is a great album, and this one song kinda ruins it, especially since they chose it for the ending...
@DevonKennedy2 this song totally does not ruin it. you ever have someone cheat on you and wish they were dead? obviously not. its simplistic and straight to the point...not poetry, but than again does poetry really have to have substance? its beatles and straight to the point
Awesome song...I'm a modern woman from Canada; and if more of our little girls and feminists ...would just listen...and stop being so one rightgeous and all about "me" they would be a little more humble....look around at Iraq and other countries they hold their women in NO REGARD ....
can everyone please be quiet about the male/female argument. No one in the beatles would hurt a woman. Both woman and men are equal. Different cultures around the world have different beliefs. For example: in Iraq, the ladies have to be escorted by men to go anywhere and can't drive and such. that is so the ladies can be protected, not to say that males and females are not equal.
@afromanparker This comment just proves you know nothing about the Beatles as people... John had stated himself in a few interviews that he had, in fact, used to hit his women back in the time, though he did say he greatly regrets it.
@afromanparker I'm not trying to be rude, but your statement about Iraq is completely off. Ladies are aloud to drive and don't have to be escorted a men. In Saudi Arabia however, woman can not drive cars, but they can fly airplanes. Not sure about the escorting thing when it comes to Saudi Arabia (although it sounds right) but I know that's true in most parts of Afghanistan.
@LondonLawyers I'm sorry, you have some issues. First, women never "demonized" men and your culture. Second, there was deliberate oppression of women because it was a way for men to exercise power and boost themselves. Third, women do not "waste their education focusing on shit." The two most common female majors happen to be business and health science. For men? Business and history. Oh, and please don't defame such a classic song with your vulgar words. They really don't help your argument.
@Knepperify1 oh contrar KN..it's more like women have more rights now...I grew up in the 60's too and I don't remember ever getting a note in my locker of flowers at my door..BOO HOO..If I need them I get them for myself...get over it already friend
This is a false choice, bad logic and highly manipulative. Countries without feminism have strong women who don't have feminist nonsense running around in their heads yet they work and are equals. To be against Feminism is not the same as to be for wife-beating.
@wecanworkitout2 John Lennon regretted writing/recording this song. There's still no equality for women, anywhere on the globe. Africa, Afghanistan, Mexico - ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Women are grossly underrepresented in Congress (unlike most other developed nations). The facts are the facts. No amount of male anguish, which is what the entire Rubber Soul album is, (and I LOVE the Beatles) is going to change that.
@Tajmari Shut the fuck up you dumb, vacuous cunt. Women are under represented in Congress because most waste their education focusing on shit like academic feminism and greivence mongering and simply aren't cut out or tough enough for the political sphere. You idiots always act like it deliberate oppression and ignore the real reasons. Most of your are too fucking stupid for politics. And therefore have to demonize men and the male culture that built great civilizations and drag it down.
@LondonLawyers Hahahaha, it's quite unbelievable that idiots like you actually exist. I'll take grievances like yours more seriously when you learn to spell correctly and use proper grammar.
@wecanworkitout2 I don't care either, but Paul wrote that song then completed it with John, and he added in that part, referring to John. I love John and he's an amazing guy. Perhaps the best thing about him is that he admitted his flaws, and honestly regretted everything. He coped with a lot, and he treated other people badly too. I think his search for peace was internal, and because he humanized himself so much, people could relate, and felt like they could change. It imortalized him.
My uncle died a few days ago, as work was selling 45 rpm records of music from the 50, 60 and over, and put in the coffin bought his first album, Run For Your Life Beatles. were his favorite band, and I made them known.
Thanks Uncle Max, thanks for everything, now in heaven you can hear the music you want.
My EX-HUSBAND dedicated it to me LOL! I got the Hell outta there! One try on my life was all he got, that's the end of our marriage, na na na na na na! It's not cute ,it's not funny, just stupid insecurity on his part, alphadot, get out of it before he hurts you! Just some good advice fro you ♥
I've always thought this song stands out from their other music by being so different from the rest. The lyrics are very violent, not something they're known for. But the combination with such upbeat, happy music makes it one of my favorites. Their genius played out in strange ways sometimes...
Ya' know for such a peaceful guy like John, this song seems sort a' cruel. I mean when John was young supposedly he was very violent. Does anyone agree?

Feminism is/was a Mistake.

Destroyed the family, dating, relationships and the workplace.

@Knepperify1 Who said anything about feminism?
rhapsodyblu 1 year ago
@Knepperify1 So violence and wife-beating are preferable? Women aren't safe. We're don't have equality. Not in the U.S., not anywhere.

This is a false choice, bad logic and highly manipulative. Countries without feminism have strong women who don't have feminist nonsense running around in their heads yet they work and are equals. To be against Feminism is not the same as to be for wife-beating.

@Tajmari Yeah we do...John Lennon is awesome. He would never really hurt a girl<3
wecanworkitout2 9 months ago
@wecanworkitout2 John Lennon regretted writing/recording this song. There's still no equality for women, anywhere on the globe. Africa, Afghanistan, Mexico - ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Women are grossly underrepresented in Congress (unlike most other developed nations). The facts are the facts. No amount of male anguish, which is what the entire Rubber Soul album is, (and I LOVE the Beatles) is going to change that.
Tajmari 9 months ago
@Tajmari Um...ok...that doesn't change the fact that it's an amazing song, but thanks for the blurb of info.
wecanworkitout2 9 months ago

@Tajmari why would Lenon regret? this reflects mentality of all the sane men.

@wecanworkitout2 Yeah...he did, lol. He regretted it though, but he did in his past. Look at the song "Getting Better".
itsbridgetlogann 8 months ago
@itsbridgetlogann I still don't care, I love him. Also, "Getting Better" is a Paul song, isn't it?
wecanworkitout2 8 months ago
@wecanworkitout2 I don't care either, but Paul wrote that song then completed it with John, and he added in that part, referring to John. I love John and he's an amazing guy. Perhaps the best thing about him is that he admitted his flaws, and honestly regretted everything. He coped with a lot, and he treated other people badly too. I think his search for peace was internal, and because he humanized himself so much, people could relate, and felt like they could change. It imortalized him.

John said he was ashamed of this song. He'd been embarrassed I think. I love it.

I've always thought this song stands out from their other music by being so different from the rest. The lyrics are very violent, not something they're known for. But the combination with such upbeat, happy music makes it one of my favorites. Their genius played out in strange ways sometimes...
