I bet these people who are interviewed never even seen a real heroin, never seen the effects of drugs on a person, how a drug trafficer can ruin a family... It's like interviewing Budhist what they know and think about Jesus... Try interviewing someone who have seen the dangers of drugs first hand and see a totally different set of answers... I personally support mandatory death sentence for drug trafficking...
i don't think the most disturbing problem here is the action itself...it is...who it is on why it is..that..decides the action...that should disturb many....think people.
Death penalty for drug trafficking is justified by the govt mainly on deterrence. Does this mean that if we can stop people from littering by forcing them to, say, slap themselves publicly a million times, we should?
@deadBEE The death sentence exists so that it scares ''crazy" people away from crime. It is there for a good reason, the people who are sentenced deserve it, thank god it exists!
@Csimiami171 The existence of the mandatory death penalty has not abolished the acts of evil in the world. It does not solve the root problem of drug abuse which is addiction. Addiction should be treated by rehabiliation and education instead of taking away someone's life. This is goes the same for addiction to gambling. Gambling has also ruined the lives of many but there's no death penalty imposed on it? Also, the "crazy" people you mentioned, are they really? The judges and jury are people.
@deadBEE people are not flawless so what makes you think the juridical system is? Are you sure every accused that has been sentenced to death by the judge is completely guilty? Death penalty itself goes against the principle that we have been taught from young, that "everyone deserves a second chance".
@deadBEE I misunderstood what the mandatory death penalty was. I think it's wrong how they just hang people for selling drugs out of their country(Singapore).
I think it should be only applied to people who murder, only. If there was no ultimate punishment to crimes, people would run free - killing everybody - with only a life sentence in prison. There's only a couple of countries who use this method, I think they should all use it.
@Csimiami171 yes the crucial word is "mandatory" in this case. The accused is guilty until proven innocent, which is absurd to me. As for people who have murdered, I agree they have committed a heinous crime but I do not think we should deal the death of a person with the death of another. Like what Gandhi says,"An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind." He will receive God's judgement when his time has come. To me, life imprisonment is just like taking someone's life away.
@deadBEE You strip him of his rights, his freedom and his voice, he is no longer a man. What's the use of being alive when you can't see the beauty of the world and being trapped and ordered around like an animal? To me, that is sufficient punishment in the mortal world. When he has died, there'll be a special place in Hell for him. Sorry for my lengthy post! I can get very worked up over the issue of death penalty
@deadBEE "Mandatory" refers to the sentencing phase -- AFTER he has been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and convicted of a capital offence, not a presumption of guilt. And Gandhi was a fuckwit who thought the Jews should have marched willingly into the death camps to be exterminated en masse -- after all, better a genocidal Holocaust and pacifistic slavery than to harm even one hair on a Nazi, lest the whole world goes blind.
I support the High Court Judges decision to sentence him to death. Now, he is caught and some people say give him second chance, what if he managed to escaped? how many people will suffer? Let us not be too emotional, be rational. If a person choose to go against the law, then he or she got to prepare to face the music. Please look at history how the people during the QING Dynasty got addicted to opium (drug) and suffered!!!
Singapore is an uncivilised third world city that still practices the sick sexual and perverted punishment of Floggings and the savage use of a mandatory death penalty. This Barbaric government needs international sanctions against it.
@Casper48022 I'm reading this , sipping my green tea. knowing I would have my head cut off under murad IVth in turkey and his singaporean policy for drinking coffee.
prohibition has to be stopped and prohibitionists should be politically punished like the nazies (curtailing their freedom of speech and legitimacy)
Its not the first time VK trafficked drugs to Spore ... Imagine all the drugs that he bring in that caused the problems in the country ... It may have taken alot of lives & given alot grief to the people ... How about those lives caused by VK doing?? And now we wanna save his lives for his doing ... wtf ?!! So a death penalty is justified for a drug offender...
yes say no to drugs, I will not take PANADOL when I'm fever, I will not take BETAFED when I'm flu, I will not take DOMIGON when I can't sleep, cause this all are drugs. zero drugs for healthy. close all pharmacy, close all clinic, close all hospitals. say no to drugs, say no to MDP!!
Why not Singapore have death penalty for every crime out there? In that case we can truly declare ourselves a crime free country! Progress in our society doesn't come from having mandatory death sentences!
for all who is against the capital punishment , wait till your brother, sister, mother is hooked on drug or molested, raped ,killed, injured by robber then you will soon realise how singapore is comparable to a paradise. Brother, your brain must have been born outside your asshole and I bet your country is riddle with high crime rate and drug addict. This asshole deserve to hang a hundred times over so cut the cock and bull story of human rights , freedom of speech, just look at your own country
I wonder all these people would say the same things if they witnessed their loved one or themselve's life being destroyed by drugs or even death because of drugs overtake.
Mandatory death sentence no doubt was inhumane, but it was a measure that should be taken to curb the drugs trafficking activities that destroyed & kills...one would rather the drug traffickers be given no mercy & punished to death (mandatorily) in order to save the life of thousands...
And I wonder what you will say if your family bonding gets destroyed by legalised gambling at the oficially sactioned INTERGRATED RESORTS IRs or get HARASSED to DEATH by AH LOONGS because of legalised gambling vice ALL OPERATING under the COVER of a family friendly resort.
I think death sentences should only be for very serious crimes like murder. Offenses like drugs trafficking isn't really that serious enough to deserve death penalty but hush punishment like canning is still required to ensure potential drugs trafficker will not take their chance to ''try their luck'' and earn some quick money.
If anything Capital punishment and mandatory death penalties are sick. Honestly do you think killing a person will solve a governments problems? your already creating more scum by doing this shit in the first place...
If you murdered somebody, then what is second chance. Until your loved one is being murdered, you will find the law is fair and justified. Save for those drug offenders.
bla bla bla. stop defending murderers, drug smugglers and other lowlvies and find something better to do with your time. maybe you could help good people instead of bad people?
agree a bit. but after completing their punishment(ex:prison), then we can give them 2nd chance, if after commit crime then they want to lower the punishment, a big no no.
--its a law, u break it, then get ready for the consequences. If he's innocence(someone trick him) then i'll support this campaign (help him).

i read some of the comments, the issue is not whether there should be a death sentence or not, its whether the death sentence should be mandatory.
this means, judges can still issue a death sentence, it is just not mandatory for them to do so.
