When I was in middle school the kids were so mean to anything different from the norm. They called me afro, 'fro-head, 'fro-ball, nappy. I am white, but in their opinion my hair was "ethnic" and therefore bad. @xoashx34 I have very wild curly hair and I do get compliments, even when it's frizzy. Maybe you're right, and she's just really sensitive and remembers only bad things. But she's just had different experiences than you or I, and you can't say they're not "true". Maybe her culture or environment is different. For instance, I live in Portland, where white girls with dreadlocks don't turn heads. She might live in a suburb in flyover country where straight locks are the beauty ideal.
