hey gavin, when you take your panos with your 24-105 L lens do you take the shots into raw and adjust them all to the sync??and do you use lens profile correction in raw on all the shots?
so if you take a pano of six shots into raw do you lens correct them all??
I got a question for you Gavin. I'm wondering what it is about the Canon 24-105 that you like so much? I see that you use it in most of your videos so yeah, just curious as to why you choose that over any other lenses you may have? I'm about to buy this lens so any input would be great. Thanks
Do you recommend the Canon 70-300mm f4-5.6 lens? I'm looking for a good telephoto lens for the price. I also want to buy a macro filter for this lens for shooting macro. Will this lens be a good choice? I have a Canon 550D.
at 1.58 can you see me waving at you I live there , "If i new you were coming I would have baked a cake" OK i dont I live 200 miles North but if I did I would have baked a cake....
@MrCrazyeyes001 Gavin says the name himself: Panorama. You can read about it from wikipedia under Panoramic photography. Gavin most likely combined the picture together with Photoshop using Photomerge tool but there is also free software available (google it).
This is one of the more interesting videos I've seen so far! I love the explanations of all your shots and thank you for listing the equipment you used.
Another excellent vid Gavin! Thanks for voicing over and explaining the exposures reasoning and brief explanations why you are adjusting them. Thanks for all the great breakdowns your vids.
When shooting a panoramic shot consisting of a number of images, you don't appear to set your focus to manual. Is this correct, as I thought you were supposed to preset it before shooting?
Great video, I liked the wide shot at the river-the result looked like a tilt shift effect. Look forward to part two and the 7 people whom hated this video are jealous idiots!
Hi Gavin! Awesome video as usual! Can you maybe do a tutorial on how you took and edited the photo at 3.47 ? I really love the feel coming from that image but have never been able to capture one myself. (I have a 550d)
Hey garvin i love your show´s what program are u using to cut panorama? still feel very new to photo buth i learn more and more with every video u make.
that panorama was outstanding...what did you mean by the sun being 90 degrees (behind you or above the horizon..??) Also how did you stitch them all together?
Hi there Gavin, I was planning to invest some money on equipment, I wanted to ask which to invest first no your opinion, A 50mm f/1.4 prime or a 580Ex2 Speedlite ? I own a general zoom lens and a cheap telephoto lens for now.
Hey Gavin! Another great video, as always. :) Could you share some personal tips on what to look for when shooting buildings like you are here? Because When I go out it just looks like a plain building, what I shoot. I try to find a fun angle, some texture or interesting detail, but it still comes out really bland.
Gavin can you please make another video in which you explain how to create an HDR image? I'm not getting good results using Photoshop CS5 HDR Pro and I see in your videos you know how to do it.. :) I cross my fingers
Hi Gavin Hoey, i've been watching your videos and i noticed that you like shooting HDR photos a lot. I tried but i failed on HDR, i don't know whether you bracketing your shots with RAW or JPEG definition?
Hi Gavin, can I ask about how to create a HDR photo and how to snitch photos together to create a panaroma? I'm new in photography and also Photoshop. Thanks!
Why do you take light metering (not sure if that's in P mode) then you switch to M mode? I mean what's the idea of shooting in M mode, rather than in P mode where you did the light metering?
@fwzghl I metered in Av for the middle of the panorama. Switching to M and entering the meter values ensure all the shots in the pano blend without banding.
Have you done any tutorials on HDR? Because I can never get my images to look as good as yours. They always look distorted. Is there any kind of secret tip?
One question Gavin, when you bracketed the shot of the people walking down the pathway and created a HDR, how did you minimise ghosting of the people walking during your 3 (or more) exposures used for the HDR? Did you created a pseudo-HDR from a single RAW exposure? Or did you manage the ghosting some other way?
Hi Gavin, What is your personal preference Canon or Nikon? My preference is Nikon, my next camera will be a D5100. Is that a good choice or not? Thanks!
@Lumpurman I use Canon because that's the system I bought many years ago. If you're starting from scratch Both Canon & Nikon make excellent cameras. On their own neither take great photos... that's your job ;-)
@MacEliot 5DmII is old but full frame camera, good for studio because of it. For example 7D or 50D are cameras to sport and wildlife because of fast shutter speed, and fast AF compared to 5D/5DmII
@lopzag yep, open camera and hit the Q button at the right of the screen, it'll allow you to select a mode that you want to change, move over the exposure comp./AEB setting, then press and hold AV then roll your finger dial up 3 times if u want 1 stop of exposure , then set your Drive mode to contiuous shooting, it will shoot 3 images one properly exposed, one one stop down and one one stop overexposed , there you go !
makes a change, nice to watch a relaxed video with a photographer looking like hes enjoying it :)

While everyone was using little point-and-shoot cams, Mr. Gavin Hoey pulls out this huge camera and starts acting all professional. lol
Don't mind me. Seriously, I hope to get to this level someday; hopefully soon.
