  • Aly Bain.

    ALY BAIN!!!

  • In '93, my friend Michele and I watched Menard perform in Portland, ME. Afterwards, the autographs. Michele was a Sorbonne intellectual from Normandy who spoke pure, classical French. Menard spoke Cajun. Sounded like 2 totally different tongues to me, but they understood each other perfectly and got on wonderfully. A great moment.

  • I should remember the fiddle player's name. He was my teacher at Port Townsend Fiddle Tunes in summer of 1985 (or 1984). He was playing with DL Menard at that time and was a really nice, patient, encouraging teacher. I can't believe I forgot his name!!!

  • whatever language that squeeze box is playing in, it's producing some mighty sweet music. i removed a previous comment because i had misspelled " laissez " and i couldn't sleep last night until i fixed it.

  • That isn't accordion but "Organetto".

This cajun song is Very Very Good.

    Many thanks, Laurie

  • Wonder why you think it is an Italian instrument - the Organetto. I have heard of the Organetto as being similar to an accordion but you seem so certain. Maybe you are just having fun with your Italian heritage but maybe there is something that makes you think it is. Enlighten a poor dumb person like me. Thanks.

  • Well everyone in Louisiana calls it an accordion. The accordion you see here (10-button, diatonic) came from Germany, historically, where it was called a "melodeon." (Now they are hand-made by Louisiana artisans, and the bellows are longer than the original melodeon.)

  • By the way the name "accordion" refers to a large number of designs, whether they have multiple rows of buttons, or a keyboard, or buttons that push inwards towards the bellows. Look up the word on wikipedia.

  • No, not an organetto. A cajun accordian.

  • Yes, ok. Accordion or organetto, when they leave V Good music, it isn't important with which they play.

    W the Great Music.

  • let's go dancin'. got to love that button accordian. "laissez les bon temps roulet!"
