@valdengo1 I had read that David Oistrakh loved to play Viola also, but had never come across any performance(s) with him on Viola. I don't understand though, why, from the late 19th C until quite recently Mozart's marking for the viola to be tuned "scordatura" (open A string = concert B-flat) was not observed. The work is in E-flat; the solo viola part is thus written (and played! It makes a big difference!) in D. Oistrakh here uses standard tuning and plays the part in E-flat...
Light, grace and wonder are all contained in this lovely performance. Unlike the Heifetz-Primrose recording, the tempo here allows for color and nuance to emerge--rather than just a flight and a fight to the finish.
What a beautiful moment...Oistrakh Sr. and Oistrakh Jr. and Menuhin and Mozart put together. Beautiful music played so outrageously well. Our master of masters Oistrakh must have been so proud of his son. What can a father wish more?
Sorry, I can´t find the Andante.... can you help me?
