They chucked as much footage in this scene as possible - some parts look like the model is being dragged at normal (not high speed) time - the 2nd unit close-ups look great tho
I love these behind the scenes shorts. Though I didn't care for "Generations" that much, this was an incredible effect. I just wish it had been edited down a bit. I seemed to take forever for the Enterprise to come to a stop.
@Uberdude25 agreed. models make things look more realistic and with them you can't tell if it's real or not. but the computer graphics make things stick out like a sore thumb
@anakinfan8 The guys who wanted to create an important tension moment in the teleplay. Duh. Probably the guys who created the 1701E - a friggin awesome ship. And like Gene Roddenberry said, "It's not the ship that important - the people tell her stories are." I never argue with Gene.
Richard Burman and Brandon Braga should be Excommunicated from the Star Trek Cannon for Completely destroying the Next Generation Movies by allowing cheap hack writers, bad acting sequences, and pointless excessive cheap CGI effects at the expense of the vision of the future that Gene Roddenberry's Television Next Gene was turning out after the first two seasons when the series found its path and built its momentum.
@sketchyinc They should also have been expelled for keeping the show limited to their very narrow understanding of human nature. It could have been that much more...
In Star Trek III the destruction of the enterprise was a sad yet novel way to gain victory over the opponent given the circumstances; however, the trashing of the Federations Flag ship -D in this movie was the end result of a poorly designed movie focused on cheap and pointless ways to gain actions sequences and conveniently get a new Enterprise E for the poorly written future movies based around cheap CGI action garbage that would dominate and follow this piece of garbage!

Nice a time when they still filmed real objects, now we just have cartoony graphics shit.

Models look better than any CGI. I wish they used them more in today's cinema!

@evdude2005 Agreed. Modeling in filmaking is a lost art.

@anakinfan8
It was originally supposed to be the 6season 6-7 cliffhanger, but it was beyond the show's budget. Personally, I found it to be depressing.
While it technically it is filler in a movie length TV episode, I cannot say I hated Generations. I'm too big of a Trekkie.

P.S. Thanks for the time you took to post this behind the scenes clip, despite my anger towards Richard Burman and Brandon Braga.
