  • To whoever did this, I love the images you put together to accompany my Earth Song on this video. Thank you!

  • We're singing this in my choir. I can't wait it reminds me of Famine Song with that awesome clash in the Altos and Sopranos. Beautiful!

  • Did This For Contest Last Year Favorite Peice Of A Life Time . Amazing Choir Blend Is Amazing . It Sounds Very Earthy And I Love You .

  • Ridiculously amazing choir

  • This song just strikes a chord within me. Thank you. <3

  • Our district is facing cuts on the fine arts again. I can't even.

This song is going into my speech to the board.

  • We are singing this in our spring concert

  • i wanted to cry when i first heard this.

    too beautiful

  • If ever I need a song to describe the way I feel about life and the world in general, I'll always come back to this song. Always.

  • I'm a very sentimental person, almost everything is special to me. So I was thinking what should be the first youtube video/song I watch/listen to for the year 2012? Well, this song is perfect.

"But music and singing have been my refuge,

and music and singing shall be my light."

    Happy 2012 everyone!

  • Wonderful... I'm... That Is a beautiful piece!

  • who's this performed by?

  • @ThannTheMan USC Thornton Chamber Choir

    :)

  • one of the greatest pieces I have ever heard. I can listen to this all day

  • wow, badass work from ticheli! liking it.

  • The first couple measures sound like Lux Arumuque ^_^ made my day

  • Chills.

  • Singing this song for our Winter concert in choir next week, I love it! :D

  • This song makes you feel so many different emotions all at once....

  • We sis this for our All Region Concert (sight reading peace) everybody learned it in 1:30 we love it, Southeastern All region choir Arkansas.

  • we're doing this song this year in choir... so gorgeous!

  • btw , wonderful video :) its amazing and i cant believe teens today do not respect this kind of art! :p they rather hear rap and rock D:

  • @JustBeingMys3lf i appreciate this kind of music its my passion i'm a freshman in high school and i sing base2 for my high school acapella and this is one of my favorite songs along with prayer of the children and oh magnum mysterium

  • i absolutely love the tenor voice part, not only because that's what i sing, but i feel its the most important part, as well as alto. :)

  • Anyone else frustrated that the only people who come here say "I sang this for High School." 1. No one cares that you sang it for high school, I can almost guarantee you thats what everyone else who is watching this did, too. and 2. No one other than those who sang this for high school is hearing this!

  • @bewareofnick00 I'm not frustrated by it because people aren't saying it to be annoying. They are simply recalling memories of high school that were pleasant. People come here for the memories that the music brings back. Allow them to that in peace. It's beautiful music, and there's no reason to get annoyed with people recalling the experience of working with this piece in high school, or any other point in their lives. Just relax, and listen, and be at peace.

  • Awww memories! Sang this song with acapella choir at my high school last year :)

  • Love this!!! Soo much it makes me cry

  • Currently singing this in my high school madrigals <333

  • I'm actually planning on turning "But music and singing have been my refuge, and music and singing shall be my light." into a tattoo, but I'm going to translate it to Latin. Music and Singing means a LOT to me, I actually lost a great choir friend this year to suicide. I miss him so much. This was a song he very much enjoyed. :)

  • Damn I forgot my sheet music at school.

  • the very first measures my mind immediately went to Whitacre.

  • @ShelbysPiggies It's funny you say that mine did as well

  • @ShelbysPiggies It's those minor seconds I bet.

  • @ShelbysPiggies It might as well be direct plagiarism of Whitacre!

  • @alreadytakenthe3rd I wasn't aware that Eric Whitacre had chords with a 3-4 dissonance copyrighted. I mean, I thought that composers like Britten, Bartok, Stockhausen, Stanford, and Messiaen had been using chords like that since before Whitacre's parents were even born...

  • @NaughtyBitsMusic I know he isn't the first to use this type of dissonance, but the way he voices them in his music is very unique I think. I'm not saying other people shouldn't be allowed to use them, Ticheli's use of them in the beginning just sounds so hauntingly similar to Whitacre.

  • @ShelbysPiggies My chamber choir director has told us this is one of the only songs Ticheli used with this style. It is written to imitate Whitacre's style. This is by far one of my favorite songs Ive sang in choir this year. Its just an amazing song.

  • @ShelbysPiggies That's a shame. My mind immediately went to Ticheli.

  • sang this song at my high school senior year for the very last concert...and cried the entire time. so beautiful.<3

  • @xnewyorkx3 Oh my gosh so did I, I was a sophomore last year. & all my seniorf friends left. There is a junior/senior choir called Vocal Ensemble at my school and they sang this song. They actually cried during the performance. All the choir kids were crying, even though i was so sad that night...i was never more proud of our choir and students in my life. They are all truly passionate about music and this song. It touches so many hearts. I actually cried so hard typing this!

  • this is a piece were learning in my class right now. its a great song. its one of those songs you get goose bumps off of when you here it! like if you agree!

  • this is by far the most beautiful piece of music ever created

  • From Start to Finish, I still havent said a word. Am at AHH

  • This was my 19 year old daughters favorite song she did in high school chamber choir. She died in a fatal car accident on June 30th, 2010. Her friends from chorus sang this at her funeral. My beautiful daughter was all about music, and it was as though a chorus of angels were singing. This song makes me feel so close to her. I miss my girl, but she is singing in Gods choir now. I love you Amanda. Your Papa

  • @Javaman712 so sorry to hear about your daughter's death. i had a friend who had got hit by a train around that same time, he loved to sing and praise the Lord. My prayers are with you and your family. God Bless

  • @Javaman712

I am truly sorry for your lost! But I am sure she is making beautiful music in heaven. I wish blessing and peace to you and your family.

  • @Javaman712 I am currently singing this in my school's university/ community chorus. I came on here just to hear a recording of it, saw your comment and nearly cried before the music even started. I may not have known your daughter, and I may not know you, but my God the love you two still hold is beautiful. My heart goes out to you, and if I can't convince my conducter to dedicate this to you and your daughter, then I personally will. God Bless you.

  • @Javaman712 I now have 2 people to sing this song in honor of at my choir's next concert. Rest in peace, Amanda. And rest in peace, my beloved Grandmother.

  • The unfortunate fools who disliked this song. xP

  • I actually had the pleasure to meet Frank Tichelli. He did a 3 day residency at my university. The man writes great music, but cannot conduct to save his life lol. He directed us on this song in concert his final day there. Very beautiful.

  • "A light of song, shining strong, Alleluia..."

This is why human beings exist. It's for things like this, for the music and the bittersweet, glorious joy it brings. What other reason for living is there?

  • This is one of the most beautiful songs i have ever heard. Im in orchestra and my school's choir sang this yesterday. it inspired me to join chorus next year.

  • My choir director told us stories of his choir years ago singing this at Auschwitz. We are taking this song to the Normandy American Cemetary and the Notre Dame Cathedral this year

  • @JeremyJ5040 Do you go to Pellissippi, perhaps?

  • @christoperfect I do

  • @christoperfect Yes. lol

  • @JeremyJ5040 That must've been a very moving experience. Singing at Auschwitz. Just the thought of singing a piece as beautiful as this at a place full of so much pain and suffering gives me a strange feeling of hope. The goosebumps are still flowing across my arms and face as I type this. Wow. Thank you Frank, for bringing your gift of composition to the world.

  • @JeremyJ5040 us too!
