I'm a very sentimental person, almost everything is special to me. So I was thinking what should be the first youtube video/song I watch/listen to for the year 2012? Well, this song is perfect.
@JustBeingMys3lf i appreciate this kind of music its my passion i'm a freshman in high school and i sing base2 for my high school acapella and this is one of my favorite songs along with prayer of the children and oh magnum mysterium
Anyone else frustrated that the only people who come here say "I sang this for High School." 1. No one cares that you sang it for high school, I can almost guarantee you thats what everyone else who is watching this did, too. and 2. No one other than those who sang this for high school is hearing this!
@bewareofnick00 I'm not frustrated by it because people aren't saying it to be annoying. They are simply recalling memories of high school that were pleasant. People come here for the memories that the music brings back. Allow them to that in peace. It's beautiful music, and there's no reason to get annoyed with people recalling the experience of working with this piece in high school, or any other point in their lives. Just relax, and listen, and be at peace.
I'm actually planning on turning "But music and singing have been my refuge, and music and singing shall be my light." into a tattoo, but I'm going to translate it to Latin. Music and Singing means a LOT to me, I actually lost a great choir friend this year to suicide. I miss him so much. This was a song he very much enjoyed. :)
@alreadytakenthe3rd I wasn't aware that Eric Whitacre had chords with a 3-4 dissonance copyrighted. I mean, I thought that composers like Britten, Bartok, Stockhausen, Stanford, and Messiaen had been using chords like that since before Whitacre's parents were even born...
@NaughtyBitsMusic I know he isn't the first to use this type of dissonance, but the way he voices them in his music is very unique I think. I'm not saying other people shouldn't be allowed to use them, Ticheli's use of them in the beginning just sounds so hauntingly similar to Whitacre.

@xnewyorkx3 Oh my gosh so did I, I was a sophomore last year. & all my seniorf friends left. There is a junior/senior choir called Vocal Ensemble at my school and they sang this song. They actually cried during the performance. All the choir kids were crying, even though i was so sad that night...i was never more proud of our choir and students in my life. They are all truly passionate about music and this song. It touches so many hearts. I actually cried so hard typing this!

Javaman712's comment literally made me cry. I def want this song done at my funeral. It's freaking beautiful and I always say I never fully appreciate something unless it's beautiful to me.
This was my 19 year old daughters favorite song she did in high school chamber choir. She died in a fatal car accident on June 30th, 2010. Her friends from chorus sang this at her funeral. My beautiful daughter was all about music, and it was as though a chorus of angels were singing. This song makes me feel so close to her. I miss my girl, but she is singing in Gods choir now. I love you Amanda. Your Papa
@Javaman712 so sorry to hear about your daughter's death. i had a friend who had got hit by a train around that same time, he loved to sing and praise the Lord. My prayers are with you and your family. God Bless
@Javaman712 I am currently singing this in my school's university/ community chorus. I came on here just to hear a recording of it, saw your comment and nearly cried before the music even started. I may not have known your daughter, and I may not know you, but my God the love you two still hold is beautiful. My heart goes out to you, and if I can't convince my conducter to dedicate this to you and your daughter, then I personally will. God Bless you.
@Javaman712 I now have 2 people to sing this song in honor of at my choir's next concert. Rest in peace, Amanda. And rest in peace, my beloved Grandmother.
I actually had the pleasure to meet Frank Tichelli. He did a 3 day residency at my university. The man writes great music, but cannot conduct to save his life lol. He directed us on this song in concert his final day there. Very beautiful.
I was having a terrible morning, and then I listened to this song. I was at peace. I remember singing this song in high school. I'm now a music major in college, and I really hope I get to do this with more choirs.
This is why human beings exist. It's for things like this, for the music and the bittersweet, glorious joy it brings. What other reason for living is there?
Our choir is singing this piece for our final concert of the year...and I know for sure that we'll come no where close to sounding like this or even fulfilling the needs to make this song beautiful. Shame, cause it is a gorgeous piece...
This is one of the most beautiful songs i have ever heard. Im in orchestra and my school's choir sang this yesterday. it inspired me to join chorus next year.
While we were singing this song at the Large Group Festival, we had a complete 4 seconds of silent at the end of the peace. We had the audience "in the palms of our hands" after we sung this piece because it is so magical. Thank you Frank Ticheli for making this piece.
My school choir sang this today at our ash Wednesday prayer service. The first time I heard it was while they were practicing. I think the beginning sounds like the soundtrack from the movie Glory. This is a beautiful song!!!
I am performing this for the second time in a choir under the direction of Dr. James K. Bass and every time we rehearse, chills of love and sadness run throughout my body. Such a powerful piece that has made me realize we need to take care of our earth. Live in harmony, live in peace.
My choir director told us stories of his choir years ago singing this at Auschwitz. We are taking this song to the Normandy American Cemetary and the Notre Dame Cathedral this year
@JeremyJ5040 That must've been a very moving experience. Singing at Auschwitz. Just the thought of singing a piece as beautiful as this at a place full of so much pain and suffering gives me a strange feeling of hope. The goosebumps are still flowing across my arms and face as I type this. Wow. Thank you Frank, for bringing your gift of composition to the world.
@JeremyJ5040 I can hardly believe this. My choir took this song Normandy American Cemetery and Notre Dame Cathedral a year ago! An experience you'll never forget, i can promise you that much. I hope you have a wonderful time :)
This is just amazing. At the first hallelujah, the picture of the tree's sillhouette on the grasslands fits the mood perfectly. I am so glad I'm getting a chance to sing this with my choir...
My choir is currently working on this song for our spring concert, we might be singing this at the choir festival in Eliges (I just know I spelled that wrong) this spring in April.
after the first hallelujah i felt pure and innocent and kinda changed. every time it plays the air i breath feels different to me but i hope its not just me.
@Grandeurity our ensemble is singing it at Disney World in a couple of weeks! ^-^
I love this song! Quite possibly more than any other song I've ever heard. Only thing, I'm an alto & some of those notes are loooooooow lol but it's all good Mr. Ticheli.
i thank you with all my heart for posting this. this video is beautiful, from the song to the pictures that express the words so beautifully. thank you :) makes me cry <3
we're singing this song when our choir and show choirs perform at Disney World this spring break and I am so glad that we are. this song is absolutely beautiful. Love it.
Such a beutiful song. My choir is performing this piece. I hope we can do it justice. it is one of the most heart-felt songs I've heard.

My choir is currently working on this song for our spring concert, we might be singing this at the choir festival in Eliges (I just know I spelled that wrong) this spring in April.

I know everyone's said this. But it gives me new chills about every 3 seconds. And tears. Haha....
Frank Ticheli is probably now one of my favorite composers.

@Grandeurity our ensemble is singing it at Disney World in a couple of weeks! ^-^
I love this song! Quite possibly more than any other song I've ever heard. Only thing, I'm an alto & some of those notes are loooooooow lol but it's all good Mr. Ticheli.
