R.I.P. My Disco Diva Viola Wills

She will always be remembered for sure :-)

I seen her once at The Saint when she came down on a swing from the middle of the dome singing Up On The Roof. That was so cool!

Thanks for the Upload of this WarEagle! :-)

    David

  • wonderfulllllll

  • This is a classic that always takes me back to good memories and good times. Viola's voice had that tone that draws you into everything she was singing about. Loved her other hits, stormy weather and Don't stop the train. Thanks for sharing/posting!

  • Pity no video, however this is by far the best recording of Viola's voice & music. Thank you.

  • Viola, you will always be with me in my heart...you go girl!! Mikey

  • It's already been a year of your passing. The clubs here in Miami still and always will be playing and your music. R . I . P .

  • Thanks for posting. :)

  • she gave me pride. let me know that i was not a confused little gayboy but: i would grow into a cool hot man, that was able to just dream. i owe her

  • Heavens to Murgatroid! A "disco" version of the great Gordon Lightfoot tune! Never heard it before now....love it! Another winner from the late great Viola Willis. THANK YOU for posting this awesome rendition for us to enjoy! :)

  • I am so very saddened by the news of viola wills passing May 06, 2009, which I was unaware of until this very day today Monday, June 21, 2010, that I cannot hold back the tears which have welled up within my eyes. Although I do in fact like the original, her (Viola Wills) version of “If you could read my mind” ALWAYS got me and those I was with out onto the dance floor no matter how tired or how much we had already danced the night away.

  • @stephenwaynereno Is this not the original ? I would love to hear her

sing this in another style, have you come across it here on youtube at all

    I will look for it.

  • @stephenwaynereno I think I found is it the one with the brass section ?

    I like both.

  • @LUREDADDY52 the reason I used the words “her version” in my comment is because the song “If you could read my mind” was originally composed by a Canadian born singer/songwriter named “Gordon Lightfoot” 1970 and was first released as a pop single on his (Gordon Lightfoot’s) first album 1970. Viola Wills then did the disco version of the song which was released 1980.

  • @stephenwaynereno thanks for getting back I now understand what you

mean now by original version. I to liked Lightfoot's version @ the time it

was released, but Viola's version did get us up on the dance floor & that

we are still here to remember those times. May she & all R.I.P

  • What memories this song brings back! I remember dancing to this at Alfie's in San Fransisco in 1981 when I was visiting there. There's probably no one around who remembers that place anymore.

  • I remember Alfie's and of my friend Viola Wills

  • @FrankBo26 - FrankBo26, I remember Alfie's real well. We called it Fluffie's (out of love). My good friend Tommy Williams was one of the DJs there. Many good times!

  • Rest in peace Viola my dad is a fanatic of you always be in his heart

  • Viola is dead?????

  • I had the oportunity to see her live and even jumped on stage and danced with her at a club called Mr.Dillons on Hillcrest while going to college in San Diego CA. I will never forget that evening of the crazy 80s,

  • I partied with her and took pics and video of her a few years ago. One of my most fond memories...

  • All the more reason to appreciate the great diva entertainers that are still with us.

  • one of the best classic disco songs.

  • Nice disco take on the Gordon Lightfoot classic. It's amazing how a folk pop song can be remade as a disco tune.

  • Best disco track ever! Ever!

  • Remember it well,,,,,,, we were young !

Trouble is it doesn't really seem that long ago!!

    OH Well,,Keep Smiling !!!

Its the Frowns that dish out the Wrinkles !!!!

  • woops.. I forgot to mention that Viola "ROCKS IT!"... Im gonna GOOGLE this woman and see whats going on with her!...lol. She needs more acknowledgements and recognition.

  • Unfortunately she died a few days ago. But she left some incredible music. This being one of her very best dance tracks...

  • Oh how I love Viola's cover of this song. Just LOVE IT!!!

  • Simply one of the best discosongs ever. Even beter than the original. But this extended version with de piano, just great!! Thanks for this posting.

  • !!!FANTASTIC!!! Memories of a bygone era of FUNNNNN....especially love the instrumental portion of this great song --3:58 piano entry ,truly classic ! ...thank you for posting.

  • wow!does this ever bring back the memories of the discos and dancing til dawn.

  • 4818632 I remember it. Do you remember "Stomy Weather"? I own it.

  • badbearduke, "Stormy Weather" is my favorite by Viola . . . . and "If You Could Read My Mind" comes in a close second!

  • Does anybody know her other song called No News is News?

  • Too bad they didn't use this version in the movie "54". The remake was horrible. But then the movie was horrible too.

  • I will always remember Viola Wills because of

her disco rendition of "If you could read my

mind" and "Gonna get along without you now".

The last song was a hit in 1980 and I going

to college for the first time, I always heard

    this wonderful song.

  • Always will be the best song ever.
