Hey Tom how's it going. I dont know if you remember me(It's me Jhovanni) but I attended the Wonderworks Workshop for 2 summers.(2006(you gave me alot of techniques in Directing that semester for "So I'll See You at Seven?", and in the summer of 2007 ,done in one day "Whispers"). (I remember I used Riley and Darbey on the video.) Wow, they've grown from the last time. Its good to hear you're competing in Houston and getting awarded for your work.

i gotta question... what type of file is this? .mov? .avi? .mp4?

It's a .mov file. I edit in Final Cut Pro and export most movies in this format. It is native to Mac and I have had pretty good results posting them here.

i do the same but the files end up being too big... i dunno.. i gotta figure out how to compress them better... is this 10 min video a .mov?

Yes, it's a. mov. I exported it from Final Cut Pro as a "quicktime movie with compression" on the "broadband-medium" setting. I wish I was more familiar with "Compressor" but I haven't had enough time to learn it. Or maybe I'm too lazy...yeah, probably too lazy :)

p.s. my favorite part in the commercial is when it says "homemade of course." it's basically like "tom kelley doesn't have money for a foam kite."

What kind of camera did you use to film this

I used a small consumer camcorder. Nothing fancy. I think for posting vids on YouTube it's not really necessary to use expensive gear because everything looks so compressed anyway, you know? And because I planned on looping audio in post, sound equipment wasn't a consideration either. It was just a super fun project!

im going to be making my commercial tomorrow and i just want to have great quality so it can at least be considered to win, i have a couple solid story lines the challenge is if i can pull it off

The actors were my daughter, my niece and their friends. They are all in 8th or 9th grade. They did an awesome job, didn't they?!

its great that you put up this video i think its really cool to see exactly how you filmed this and the proccess it took to make this, i have looked around on youtube and you byfar have the best, most proffessional commercial of them all i think with out a doubt you will win, love the cart btw

Thank you very much. I like to shoot as if I were a real professional director (I can dream). I hope someday (soon) to direct for real. That's what I am shooting for anyway. And thanks for the kudos on the cart. I like it too. I am not sure what I will do with it now. Maybe I can have Nicko (my Willy Wonka-like Slusho guy from the commercial) show up at the premier and sign autographs :)

OK...Just checked CloverfieldClues(dot)com,and airhead Jamie has posted another vid,and the Tagruato site has 4 new updates.Although the video is just Jamie in a drunken rant about how the girl Ted "left her for" is probably a moo cow on a farm.Maybe Ted has given up the "cause" and has decided to become a dairy farmer. >:)

Rock on bro.Y'all did a great job.I can't wait for all the hype to culminate.I just hope that all this viral marketing won't just be left at the door when we walk into the theatre.I keep hearin how the viral sites are settin up the story, and will not have a major role in the movie.But if Slusho is the catalyst for all of the mayhem,it's not really gonna make since to people who ain't been followin the viral marketing if no explanation is given.What do you think Tom?

You know,,,I think this is all too cool. No other movie has been marketed this way. When it is all said and done, everything that we have done (you, me, all of us who have participated in the viral campaign) will be part of movie history. We have a chance to affect movie history! Whenever Cloverfield is discussed in the future, they will have to mention what we did to contribute to it's success. How cool is that!

Oh most definately!I've drove my girlfriend crazy with my constant babbling about deep sea nectar,T.I.D.O.WAVE,Slusho!,et­c.Yeah bro I agree with ya all the way.But what I want to know is do YOU think we will be given a backstory of any kind in the movie,or are the viral sites givin us all the backstory we're gonna get?Are the people who haven't followed this like we have gonna be totally clueless of the events that have led up to the attack?
