This tune is really growing on me but still prefer the energy and on the road rip of the live version from Newcastle elsewhere on the Tube. Wings seemed to feed caution to the dogs on tour
critics of the 70's were just frustrated road blocks. they've now faded away and there's a clear road to truth for this generation to see that generation...
"Red Rose Speedway" is one of those early Wings LPs that was ripped by the critics on it's release (I guess ripping Paul was the "hip" thing to do in 1972). But now in 2010 it gets a 4 star review by those same critics. Of course to us fans, it sounded great then and sounds better today epsecially compared to the music that's coming out nowadays.
@ssur55 spot on, what do critics know anyway. NME etc will only push what they think are the "hip" bands of the time, regardless of how their "music" sounds.
I'm a big Bowie and Macca fan and for example NME loved Bowie as Ziggy but once he retired Ziggy he wasn't hip any more so was slated.
Totally agree. I wish Paul would play more of the deep cuts like this one live. I have a bunch of his live dvds and they for the most part have the same songs Band on the Run, Hey Jude, Sgt. Peppers reprise and though I love those songs Ive never heard a live version of single pigeon.
I first heard this song when I was 5 when it was released. Coincidentally I introduced the album to my 4 or 5 year olds and they loved the WHOLE album
This is yet another Great Song "from One Of", and There Are Those Who Have So High A Regard For This Man that they would much rather have me "write"; "from "Rock" Music's Greatest Living Treasure , Yes He Is Paul MacCartney Either description applies to an Artist that I have the Greatest Respect for, whose less well known Album Songs are often Real "Finds","When The Night" being no exception A really "Rocky" & Likable Tune "Take It Away"!!!.........
Yeah, well, it is arithmetically 4/4, which means it can also be expressed as 8/8, and the snare is the 4th 8th, which means after the 1st downbeat, the next emphasis is on the 4th, so 4-1 = 3; after the first 3-grouping, the only option for the remaining 5 (8-3=5) is 3+2. So it's 3+3+2.
É interessante, as musicas do Paul McCartney são menos enjoativas do que as de Lennon. Eu tenho esse LP de 1973 e ainda ouço com muita vontade. Nota 1000 pra esse LP. Abraços do Brasil- Piraju-SP.
it was of my father uhm...I suppose that he discovered it in one of his travels...for a more intersting answer I've to speak about it to him! In the while you continue to search!
Yeah this song is amongst a good handfull of my favourites from the Wings era Macca and it wouldn't have sounded out of place on any of the last 4 Beatles albums.

Linda's harmonies pollute this entire album. I don't care for them at all. To my ears, after this album, the harmonies were more Denny, than her.

@SouthCoastMass Linda;s harmonies are Great!
reneperezz 2 years ago
@SouthCoastMass That's not true. Linda sang beautifully, and her vocals always enriched Paul's songs.

whether its a "rough" mix or not...macca knows how to make music...and i will take it anyway he makes it
russrob3 2 years ago 8
yes I know he's the greatest ! but the definition "rough mix" is written on the original bootleg 'THE ALTERNATE "RED ROSE SPEEDWAY" '
on which i find this version. I belive that it referes to the production and not to music arrangement.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
he is not the greatest he is the best the greatest is lennon.
WiltatKansas 2 years ago
well, fix it ...rearrange it...make it more methodical...give it more falsetto...in other words...learn to spell refer in the past tense...
dakeljo33 2 years ago
love this tune!
reneperezz 2 years ago 2
Actually, it doesn't: it's 8/8 (i.e. 4/4), but the grouping is weird: 1-2-3,1-2-3,1-2. So it's 6 against 2 which kinda sorta feels odd ;)
jonsmanov 2 years ago
Yeah....coz Mcca doesn't follow strict music theory and notation.... he's greater than that.... Im not saying in a bad way though

isnt this 4/4 with the snare on 2+ ?
