The music for this show is so pure and transparent, as well as characteristic. It blends both the dramatic musical elements of the great american film score with the characteristic Eastern Asian sound. Hope I get to score something like this on TV for myself one day. For a show that is intended for kids under 13 its probably one of the best Television shows ever. I have been a huge DBZ fan since I was a kid, I'm in college and a still DBZ fan, but this has become my favorite TV show to date.

the reason that this show doesn't seem like traditional anime is that it was concieved, written, and produced by Americans. japanese anime has a different style of art and humor that is recognizable but strange to Americans.

i consider it anime because anime brings out your emotions other than just humor, thats what makes it different than cartoons

@rustyfence226 It's not like other anime, thought. I never counted it. It doesn't really have the qualities of anime. I compare it to shows like Full Metal Alchemist, Naruto, Bleach, stuff like that, and it just doesn't match them.

No crazy hairstyles, VERY innocent show, no blood, no spiky hair, no large eyes, hardly any references to Japanese culture (it's mostly Chinese).

Sorry, but this just doesn't seem like anime to me. To me, it's a kids show adults can also enjoy. :)

@BojikArc Actually, it has a lot of references to Japanese culture, especially within the Fire Nation.

And not all anime have crazy hair, large eyes, or the other "typical" Japanese cartoon characteristics. But on that note, the characters do have pretty large eyes in this series.

@TonitheTater You are absolutely right. The Fire Nation's culture is based very much on that of Japan, beyond a doubt. Building design, behavior, honor, they really captured the essence of it, down to the environment and wilderness.

However, the basis of the series itself is not Japanese, it is actually Chinese. Avatar seems...I dunno...classier than an anime, if that's the appropriate word...
