I always had a strong passion for cosmetology but i was always concerned with the amount of money i'd earn because i wanted to have a family and a lovely house, great car, and give my kids everything they'd want. I wanted to be a nurse but I think that i'm going to go to cosmetology school first and in the future probably go to nursing school while owning my own salons.
I hear a lot of people saying that cosmetology is not a good career choice because of salary, employement rates, and because when you get older it's harder to stand and all. What is your opinion on all that?
@loneliest1 I would think the same thing too. I think it's just people who think that nursing or something like that is better. I mean nursing is awesome but I don't wanna do that. I was telling them I was going for esthetics and they thought it was a bad idea.
yeah, do what you want to do, and atleast youll be earning money doing what you want to do, and its all about dreaming big, you can always earn even more if you end up working for celebrities and people who makes lots of money, thats if you do what you do well. my mom always said to do what i want, just make sure im the best at it =]

My parents are not as supportive as yours and they are kinda skeptical about me wanting to go to beauty school. They dont think its a "serious" career! I'm in a similar situation in some aspects, but also a completely different background. I dropped out of high school due to my own ignorance of the value of education. Ended up going back so that I could become a cosmetologist as soon as I graduated I decided to go to college instead Ive been in college for a while and have decided cosmetology might be the right choice for me AGAIN! The average pay check is at least 12 dollars an hour. More or less, depending where you work at and who you work with but it wouldnt matter to you if you truly loved Cosmetology. Im a free-lance makeup artist and I'll rather be my own boss lol

I am glad you told girls that it's okay to go for it. I too, have experienced the stereotyping. It's so unfortunate that so many independent young women have to deal with that. I know that I am an intelligent young lady, and that I made the right decision for my life. I hope girls can learn from this.

please help! :'( my hair is dyed a dark brown violet color and i recently had highlights put in, but my highlights came out a ORANGY brassy color instead of a nice pale blonde. i was told to use a toner so i have the wella silver lady one, but im not sure what developer to mix it with? do i use a 10% or a 20%?? i was told that if i use a 20% it was going to lift my dark brown base color too? what do i go with? :'( please help!

omg same thing happened to me! i found the youtube beauty community... end of story lol. so i started getting super into makeup and no i'm trying find a job to pay for cosmetology school.
thanks so much for making this video, it has definitely inspired me. i set up an appointment to look at a beauty school near me (regency), because i don't feel like college is right for me but i was nervous because while i feel like i'm pretty good at makeup, i can NOT style my hair (besides straightening it, that's about it). i'm still nervous i'm gonna be slower at learning hair skills than other people since i'm not good at it to begin with. but after seeing this i feel more confident :)

Wow. Well I Relate to you in some ways...and then I fit that Stereotype in some ways. In High School I LOVED learning & made great grades...And English & Writing was my Thing. But Because of Family issues & Money problems I had to drop out and get a job. 4 years later (Now) Im getting my GED finally. Im engaged with a Baby. But I LOVE Makeup, Nails, & Hair. you know how you said your first guru you started watching was exteener(however tis spelled lol) well your so my exteener!!! lol ;) I'm exactly how you were just bare minerals, blush mascara and sometimes eyeliner lol I've gone to massage school and now im a certified massage therapist and soon ima be going back to take the esthetics course to be an esthetician :) :) :) I can't wait!!! we get to learn makeup and everything!!!!!!!
I'm 14 and I really think this is the right path for me. The past summer I really have learned so much about hair and makeup and meganheartsmakeup inspired me to really be interested in makeup. My friends ask me questions all the time about makeup and I did 5 of there hair and makeup for homecoming. :)

Yea my mom has a Phd and has always discouraged me from cosmetology school. Ive tried nursing, business, and computers in college. Anyways, none of those careers are for me and I am mad I waste all those years trying to please my mom. Anywho, I am now 25 and starting cosmetology school in two weeks. So excited

@1punchgirl i completely understand what you are going through and the best advice i can give is if you really want to do cosmetology and you are passionate about learning it you should go for it! there is a saying that you will never work a day in your life if you love what you do. So if you love the idea of working in cosmetology you should do it! and it is totally okay to go into school with no prior knowledge or experience.

@muncey1994 yes, the highlights will work on your hair but your stylist will have to use bleach. The highlights wont cover all of your hair but they will make your hair considerably lighter looking. Just make sure you tell your stylist that you want to eventually become a light brown all over.

thanks so much for making this video, it has definitely inspired me. i set up an appointment to look at a beauty school near me (regency), because i don't feel like college is right for me but i was nervous because while i feel like i'm pretty good at makeup, i can NOT style my hair (besides straightening it, that's about it). i'm still nervous i'm gonna be slower at learning hair skills than other people since i'm not good at it to begin with. but after seeing this i feel more confident :)

I just wanted to say that I'm pretty much in the same boat u were in b4 u started beauty skool, I'm about to start my first semester at virginia college. I understood everything u said. btw, i don't know much about styling, but mostly about haircare like u said lol

This video has been very helpful. I have a few questions for you. I'm trying to decide if I want to go to beauty school or not... so first off... What do the salaries look like for cosmetologist? I'm also wondering if assisting is a paid position and if it's better than just working full time at a salon(?). What school did you attend and/or which schools would you recommend? Wow. Well I Relate to you in some ways...and then I fit that Stereotype in some ways. In High School I LOVED learning & made great grades...And English & Writing was my Thing. But Because of Family issues & Money problems I had to drop out and get a job. 4 years later (Now) Im getting my GED finally. Im engaged with a Baby. But I LOVE Makeup, Nails, & Hair. have you taken your board exams yet?? I had to take mine two times :( the first time i was like 11 points short of passing i was sooooo upset but the second time i passed easy :) :) but my exams costed 250 bucks a peice!!!!!!! is that how yours is??

@Beeyourself7 oh my goodness so was I!! i had soo many flashcards made, and my review guide i had all highlighted up like crazy!! i'm nervous about going back to school to do the esthetics program but i'm excited, the exam i know now how to really study for it, but i'm still anxious about it but I can't wait to get to learning so of the really cool stuff we are going to learn. :) so you learned makeup and hair at your beauty school? thats very cool :)

you know how you said your first guru you started watching was exteener(however tis spelled lol) well your so my exteener!!! lol ;) I'm exactly how you were just bare minerals, blush mascara and sometimes eyeliner lol I've gone to massage school and now im a certified massage therapist and soon ima be going back to take the esthetics course to be an esthetician :) :) :) I can't wait!!! we get to learn makeup and everything!!!!!!!

I'm 14 and I really think this is the right path for me. The past summer I really have learned so much about hair and makeup and meganheartsmakeup inspired me to really be interested in makeup. My friends ask me questions all the time about makeup and I did 5 of there hair and makeup for homecoming. :)

Yea my mom has a Phd and has always discouraged me from cosmetology school. Ive tried nursing, business, and computers in college. Anyways, none of those careers are for me and I am mad I waste all those years trying to please my mom. Anywho, I am now 25 and starting cosmetology school in two weeks. So excited

everything you just said describes the situation i'm in. i'm actually going to a community college right now and having NO IDEA what i want to major in. i guess i'm kinda scared of trying cosmetology. since im used to GPAs also lol. and 4.0 student too! Lol. but i feel like if i don;t its going to be my biggest regret. are there students who attend and have NO experience with makeup? cause im not so amazing at my makeup. plus no one else really supports me )=

@1punchgirl i completely understand what you are going through and the best advice i can give is if you really want to do cosmetology and you are passionate about learning it you should go for it! there is a saying that you will never work a day in your life if you love what you do. So if you love the idea of working in cosmetology you should do it! and it is totally okay to go into school with no prior knowledge or experience.

Hiya, me again! if you remember me from last time :D
so i have black dyed hair, which has been dyed black alot over the past year!
and im trying to go mid brown with with caramel highlights,
im deciding to take your advice and get whole head highlights, which are of two different brown
but i was wondering if you could answer two questions for me,
will they even work on my dyed black hair?, and do whole head highlights cover most of the hair? i would really appreciate it if you could reply:)!

@muncey1994 yes, the highlights will work on your hair but your stylist will have to use bleach. The highlights wont cover all of your hair but they will make your hair considerably lighter looking. Just make sure you tell your stylist that you want to eventually become a light brown all over.

what you said about doing it with passion is so important! my second year of college I also completely changed paths in life and it was scary, but I found what I wanted to do and no matter what I'll never regret it!
...besides, how many times has anyone here gotten a bad haircut because the person cutting their hair had zero interest in what they were doing? great vlog :) with your passion and attitude, you'll definitely accomplish a lot, whatever you decide to do! :)
