I love some of his subtle "nuances" if you will. For instance, at the 1:43 mark, his look as he's playing the intro to the crescendo, and at 2:39 when he shouts out "leave me alone!" I simply die laughing at that every time. He was a genius indeed. He was a champion Bösendorfer pianos (I bought one and love it) and really dictates to all of us who have learned, are learning, or want to learn to play piano that it really is, in the grand scheme of it, about having fun.
watch?v=2yzKmV1fltI please just put a comment on this link, it is a tutorial of hungarian rhapsody, than he will post next part of it :) thanks for help
Getting to this standard of playing the piano is serrious business, but then not taking it seriously at all, that's what we need in this life. Where would we be if we had to take life seriously? Just a pity that he was before my time and he did not come to the country where I grew up. But - the videos are here, so thanks YT and Andre222redline, whoever and wherever you are!
@Ragtime44Films Yes, I think I am. Remember Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof?
It's no shame to be poor, but it is no great honour, either.
Maybe, as you aquire bruises on life's journey, you would do yourself some damage if you took it all seriously. It's a survival strategy, but some have fewer fights for survival than others.
Well it's not stupid to me. But that's my opinion, and it's slightly related to the fact that I'm a Christian. But whatever. It's your opinion and I'm not going to participate in a pointless argument.
And the reason we pianists play is because we love it and aren't paranoid of getting "some damage" because we take it seriously. It's less damage than not taking it seriously.
I am 70 years old. My grandmother who was 60 when I was born, took us to see Victor Borge in the early 1950s, knowing we would have much laughing out loud, as well as so much wonderful, lively skill on the piano. And we certainly had. Thank you wonderful spirit Victor Borge.
I don't think I've ever seen anything by Victor Borge that I didn't like. But can you imagine being the guy he plays with? If you look, you can catch the other guy giggling ... I wonder how long they had to practice this ;)
@dimkaodessa: (Repost of a comment from my old account) Only my humble opinion, but I think Mr Borge showed greater musical integrity by enjoying (and helping others to enjoy) the process of playing and listening than have a thousand other pretentious "serious" performers. And take a look at some of his improvised pieces and his work as a conductor. He was a great musician, and his "clowning" is a part of that.
Having just watched Lang Lang butcher this piece (but having "fun", as some commented), this is truly refreshing. Not only is this much more fun to watch, but the >music< is much more beautiful!
Victor Borge - The class clown of classical piano. People sometimes tend to think of him as just a novelty act but he was very accomplished and could play on the same level with many acclaimed pianists of his generation.
