I was just going to post that same comment, almost verbatim. XD
This video has earned a rare spot in my very thin folder of Epic Randomness. It's like a time machine. I watched it three times in a row and found myself in 1972.
"Too bad there's no live footage of the actual place -- it was a monument to purple shag carpet and flagstone suburban bad taste".......Working on it , check out the other gobbler vids if you wish to see some of that puple stuff
@riffz0r , that is when my partners and I were running it. I actually made a lot of interior videos, including the basement.... Why you ask? I am Hartwig, Scott Hartwig. Haha!

We stopped and ate here on the way back to Milwaukee from my graduation from UW Madison back in 79. The place was sheer tackiness and my father ended up with a case of food poisoning that night! Good times.
Sold by the Hartwig heirs - they preferred to raise turkeys than to run a turkey hotel and restaurant. It was renamed several times, with each new owner tearing out pieces of its charm for health and safety code reasons.
What I would love to see is a 3D game level based on this. It would be TOTALLY AWESOME if this place was brought back to life in SecondLife. Hotel rooms, swimming pool, and supper club, the whole thing.
Last summer it was the headquarters of an architectural tour of SE Wisconsin sites (Frank Lloyd Wright and Like) and you could go in and still see the furnishings. Some things, like the shag rug handrails, had been removed, but the gaudy furniture and of course the stone and amythest and petrified wood surfaces were still intact. It has been for sale for a while, but would need a huge amount of work! Look up the Lileks site to see photos. The hotel up the hill is gone, though.
Oh, somebody bought it. But, rumor has it, he might not do it now because of the restrictions they put on him. I wish I could walk down anyday and eat there...
Thanks for posting -- I never saw the Gobbler at its peak. Ate at the restaurant once a few years ago. I agree with the comment about too bad nobody had the vision to restore the place.
Thanks for posting this first and foremost. It's sad to see the motel gone. The restaurant is still there and every now and then it opens. My mother was the last waitress there. I grew up there with those crazy Hartwigs.
You can buy it for 2.3 million. I used to work there, and the place needs a lot of work. Still very cool inside though. The rotating bar was great when it worked.
Your humble choir sound engineer has taken it upon himself to fix the audio synch. It's on my YouTube channel.
You're welcome.

Oh man, sometimes you hear something once and you just *know* it's going to be playing over and over in your head for the rest of your life...

@wackplayer I think it'd fit in better as a location for a "Fallout" game.

I remember seeing the parody strip for this dreadful, hilarious place, back in '97. Years later, I rediscovered it at the Lileks site. Classic.

How on earth did you manage to find an old ad for this place?
This was where the beautiful people went when I was a kid, but my family never patronized the place. Heck, McD's was a big event for us.
Thanks for the laugh!

Such a bummer nobody had the vision to restore this place. Talk about an incredible hotel.
