@mikeing124. I used my Canon Ixus 110 IS (SD 960). I didn't want to have to lug a big camera around and this camera worked perfectly. Fits in your pocket and takes really vivid and clear pics. Video taken on this camera is in High Definition so good quality.
I did Gokyo, Cho La Pass, EBC and Kala Pattar last October. You will love it. There are no words to describe the magnitude of mountains.
As for tips...take it slow. Drink lots of water!!! We were drinking 4-5 litres a day. Ginger tea and garlic soup work wonders for altitude sickness.
Just enjoy it...the scenery is mind blowing and there's a sense of peace and serenity that you'll never find anywhere else. The people and culture are amazing.
