If we're going to produce far more CO2, the smog will block the sun coming trough so we would still have a ice age. Many plants and animals, fish etc will die from the sulfuric rain. @ragenFOX If an ice age is due to global warming, then what causes the end of ice ages - global cooling? I've read many theories on all sides and they are just that - theories. It is certainly very convenient to have all recent weather anomalies attributed to global warming. I'm old enough to recall the global cooling scare of the 70's. Be careful about taking a stand when science is politicized.

@doverlin ice age will go over time, more than half of the planet will face big issues but other parts will be more livable, global warming and ive age arnt connected directly, first the poles are melting, then after a while, fortwater from the ice will effect the salt levels in the sea water, then the currents in the oceans will be effected, = the north side of seas and oceans wont get warm water from the tropical waters=water will be colder= weather will be colder= ice age.

@2xtream YOU are the one that needs to research the subject. the earth HEATS by a couple degrees due to pollutants (do u also believe chloroflourocarbons don't cause holes in the ozone??), melting polar ice caps, making the sea level higher, which COOLS the atmosphere. the majority of scientists agree on this. ONE weather condition (a hurricane, an ice storm) cannot be looked as to confirm or deny global warming trends- it has to be a series of conditions over many many years.

I heartily suggest you look up the phrase "cognitive dissonance" because you appear to be experiencing it.
By now it should be obvious that the "science" continuously alters it predictions to fit the current scenario.

I do deny the scheme that says we should all pay carbon homage to banks for the privilege of living. If the weather scientists can be so wrong for the last 40 years, what makes you think they are so right now? In the 70's, we were told a new ice age was coming. It is well understood and public knowledge that:
1. Climate scientist predicted global cooling in the 70's.
2. Climate scientist predicted warm winters and snowfall reduction in 2000.
3. Climate scientist now predict record cold winters due to global warming.
Do you not see the contradictions? Is it possible they are wrong again?

@doverlin god bless google...ok here we go 1. youre right, a 1971 paper by Stephen Schneider, a climate researcher at NASA US. Schneider suggested that the cooling effect of dirty air could outweigh the warming effect of carbon dioxide, potentially leading to an ice age if aerosol pollution quadrupled
However, Schneider soon realised he had overestimated the cooling effect of aerosol pollution and underestimated the effect of CO2, meaning warming was more likely than cooling in the long run

It was even on the cover of Time Magazine. There was even talk of governmental policies to combat it . . . sound familiar? I suggest we reduce pollution and limit toxins humans are exposed to by industry. I suggest we develop cleaner and more efficient energy sources. Let us attack real world problems. The idea that a carbon credit market will be implemented to save us is lunacy. All it will do is lead to speculators enriching themselves at our expense.

I heard it blamed on a high pressure over the Atlantic causing jet-stream problems, causing serious travel of arctic air masses. And snow in Australia.
What I try to remember is that 100 years isn't all that long, and both ice ages and warm periods have come and gone.
It was a change in climate that caused apes to come down out of the trees, which started it all.

The ice and snow in Greenland and the arctic are gradually melting and making the ocean currents, ie Gulf Stream, colder than usual. So GB, which is father north than Maine, is normally moderated by the warm Gulf Stream. However the Gulf Stream is being chilled by the arctic melt causing GB and northern Europe to be colder than usual.
