Thank you for this video. Worldwide people need to help the children..no matter what disability. My son with DS is now 34. Things were not good when he was born. Most parents in the USA put the babies into institutions and forgot them. I did not agree then, and do not agree now with that decision. Bless you and keep sending the message
@carol3hawks - Many people in Russia do put children with disabilities into institutions, and doctors keep telling them to do so. Thank you very much for everything, for the kind words, for the message, for having your son with you. I have a son with DS too, he's only 4 yet. )
Nice video! Sad some parents are not up to the job but you get that anywhere. I think what helps avoid abandonment is the knowledge there is support available. When our fourth child was born, in the local hospital there was a lady who had twins one of whom has Down Syndrome. We were able to give advice and they met our second born son who has both DS and autism who was age 3 at the time. I gave them loads of leaflets/magazines from the UK Down's Syndrome Association.
Thank you so much for your attention! I agree with you. (I'm a Russian mother of a DS child. In Russia parents do lack information on what Down Syndrome is, they picture people with DS and other disabilities as 'vegetables' or even 'monsters,' that's why I made this vid, first in Russian, and then I just translated it.
It does seem you and other parents have a lot of work ahead changing some peoples' negative attitudes. Your actions will have changed attitudes of people around you: One just has to carry on for our children.
It's not actually a classical piece, the music is taken from the Russian (Soviet) movie for children, "The Tale of the Star-Child" (based on Oscar Wilde's story), the composer is Alexei Rybnikov. (The director of the movie is Leonid Nechaev, the film was shot in 1983.)
