Actually there should be a significant pre-filter befor the carbon "pre-filter" otherwise the odor/voc reduction capabilities of the carbon will be almost immediately stymied by the accumulation of simple dust. Feel free to contact me Vornado, I've been building air purifiers for years.

@EdKLunar i think they purposely want that to happen so people would have to prematurely replace the carbon prefilter.
