Have you played Homefront? Or Medal of Honor? They are both terrible games that have obviously copied what made CoD successful. CoD4 and Halo 2 did nothing good for the genre. CoD4 took a great deal of skill out of the game by creating kill streaks and forgoing balance for the sake of artificial extending the multiplayer in the form of unlockable garbage. Halo 2 didn't give a shit about weapon balance. What was worse is that it was pushed straight into "esports" without a good balance pass or even allowing for the game to mature. I blame it for the stagnation of Esports outside of starcraft.

It built itself on the Halo competitive scene and exploded in 2010 when it added Starcraft 2 to its circuit. They could not have done this if Halo was such a bad game.

It just worked. I said Cod 4 purely because it's the last cod i have enjoyed. I'm not even talking about MP necessarily, the single player was fun. What cod DOES have is incredibly smooth gameplay and excellent controls. As such, both these franchises contributed a great deal to the current state fps

Halo 2 succeeded not because it was good, but it was created almost in a vacuum. What were the other big fps games that year? Half-Life 2, CS:S, Far Cry and UT2k4. Maybe painkiller? All of them were predominately pc games.

PC fps games have had smooth controls and gameplay for 2 decades now.

Single player doesn't matter in a discussion on a video about a competitive shooter.

As gaming grows and esports become more and more popular (look at SC2 recently) the competitive side of gaming will be just as important as the fun aspect. For companies like EA and Activision and Microsoft, making a fun game is second to making enough money to cover its production cost. Games are expensive as fuck to make. Why try new things when you have a formula that works (halo, cod)?
