Heavens to Prof Harold Hill! THANKS for posting! One of my fave songs from one of my fave Broadway classics! Never fails to put a smile on my face & a spring in my step! You've MADE my day & my week !! CHEERS, mate !! :)
God, I love this movie/musical. Ron is so young--probably not too far beyond the Andy Griffith show. I had "Seventy-six Trombones" and "Marian the Librarian" going through my head for at least 35 years now. So cool. Good memories (and just try to get "Marion the Librarian" out of your head after a day or so).
I believe the man in the light blue working shirt, with the big Tan hat that sings "Just for Me" is Tom Poston, But I'm not exactly sure. Anyone know?
@GeneralBurkhalter1 I'm not sure, but according to imdb and wikipedia Tom Poston was never in "The music man". Funny you should mention that because they guy in the light blue jacket and tan hat at 0:21 looks like Bob Newhart! :)
@BarGerMarMeyer The name of those four guys in the Barbershop Quartet, or I guess I should say, they were known as 'The Buffalo Bills'. Did you want their full names? Did you already find this out?
"Ron" is the name of the actor. The character is Winthrop, who has a terrible lisp and before, never ever talked at all. And that's not his mom, it's his sister Marian, who's just that happy to see him speak. Try WATCHING THE MOVIE before you criticise.
@ihartrodatkins Ronnie Howard, as he was known back then. He played Opie on the Andy Griffith Show, then Richie Cunningham on Happy Days. Now he's a director (Apollo 13 among others!)
@ihartrodatkins The first time I saw this version of the movie I too thought that Marian was his mom until they said she was his sister. I thought at first he couldn't talk naturally but when i saw this scene for the 1st time i put 2 n 2 together and figured out that he CHOSE not to talk bc of his lisp. I AGREE WWITH U 100% WATCH THE FULL MOVIE AND THEN CRITICIZE if you do NO OFFENSE TO ANYONE you won't look like a idoit as much AGAIN NO OFFENSE IN ANY WAY TO ANYBODY!!!!!!
I prefer the film version. This is very hard to pull off with modern talent in a broadway production and it's obvious that their hearts aren't in it. And how can you beat a cast like Hermione Gingold, Robert Preston, shirley Jones, Buddy Hacket, Ron Howard, that absolutely brilliant Quartet, Exquisite color with Meredith Wilsons melodies and Lyrics supervised by the greatest talents in Holly wood of that period? All that perfection in the greatest distillment of Musical GENIUS ever.
Yes, although I have to admit the remake of this movie was fantastic. Not quite as amazing, but still very, very good. And I have to admit, Kristin Chenoweth did a superb job as Marian. Maybe even as good as Shirley.
spectacular song. but they got rid of the best part! the cross cut saw! what the hell.
