  • son touareg de mali

  • I am not african, never been there, yet I love the group and culture.

Wish I could go there and spend at least one year with the Touaregs. better than spend a year with redncks and hillbillies.

  • NICE MUSIC FROM ALGERIA

  • @DZ1Explorer They are from Algeria? I think they come from Mali.

  • @njamcojka65 : on the realility it's both, but you have to know that these twareg go from contry to other contry, on MALI, ALGERIA , NIGER ...... they were representing Algeria on the word cup football.

TWAREG DON'T HAVE A SPECIALE NATIONALITE, this kind of thinks was made by FRance or....before no border so...

  • @DZ1Explorer And Libya and Burkina Faso too. You're right. I know something about the history of the Touareg.

  • these guys are great!!

  • Amazing! COOL!

  • POWER!!

  • POWER!

  • Your ancestors cam from Africa.

  • its true.

  • @manbigus everybody's ancestors come from Africa

  • Long live the Tuareg, and Tinariwen! Toumast!

  • Enough criticism...so what if there wasn't "roll" only the ORIGINATORS of rock 'n' roll have a right to criticize because they invented it. Tinariwen is still awesome and make me proud of my african roots! Also, I love Ibrahim.

  • Agree with you zahia. This is way beyond "rock and roll" which is too narrow to capture the perfection of this music. It has blues/rock in it, but it's a much wider ocean than that.

  • They're doing the groove in such a stiff way. Like an octoberfest beer-tent band. Otherwise, they sure do rock. But a bit more roll, please...

  • awesome

  • very nice

  • This so Lush and Vital .... Driven Directly Out from the Seed of The Sun

  • Tinariwen - you teach me to be proud of who I am no matter what the hostile media and racists think of me. You rock. Always remember where you came from...

  • I don't know very much about religion or cultures, but what I positively know is that Tinariwen rocked the tent at the Blus festival in Byron bay 09. They were an unexpected new kind of groove that was enjoyed by me and my friends hips that we bought all their cd's, the only shame was we did not get them signed.

  • I love this. I have met a prominent group of Tuareg people from Niger. They are amazing. Thanx for posting.

  • I just saw them in Santa Cruz! Very mesmerizing and uplifting live.

  • I like Berber music!

  • Muito bacana!

  • Anassakoul a tenere... fantastic!

  • I am in love with their music!

  • I love this song.

  • vus à jazz sous les pommiers à coutances et franchement ils sont supers ! Magnifique musique !

  • two things... first of all they mention tenere in almost every song. every song has something to do with the desert / bush. secondly...

im confused with the language. Tamashek and Berber... are they speaking in berber or tamashek? Or is berber a sub-language / dialect of tamashek?

  • berber is not a language..its a collection of tribes each with their own language

    tuaregs from mali speak tamashek

berbers in morocco speak tamazight, etc

  • berbers are the indigenous people of north africa, so if you say berber or tamasheq you're saying the same thing.

Also notish that tamazight/tamashek, and Imajaghen/Imazighen that's the same word ! only with a different pronounciation.

So in algeria, morocco, or niger mali they're all berbers, but every tribe speak a different berber dialect with lots of words in common, hope you get it. Peace.

  • indigenous is a very bad meaning, that means no civilsation or real culture was here!!

  • that's not true, I used that term in the meaning of autochthonous, in the sense of native people.

If you think that native people or aborigines of the whole planet got no civilisation or real culture you do have a serious problem.

The culture is rich and really old, we got the oldest alphabet still in use in the world I think, and a very very variating and rich culture. anyway I'm not english or american, just try to understand what I'm trying to say. Peace

  • that's right, good answer!!

  • Kheddou, qu'il est doux.

Thanks a lot for your words. I'm Kabyle and my heart is beating so much.

  • Azoul. Un jour on va s'unir tous ! ca sera plus facile.

One day we shall unite, all the tribes together, hope it'll be soon my brothers.

  • unite for what?

  • My communication's teacher has met them before

  • to acebodine: Can it be from Festival in the Desert?

  • I'm pretty sure I saw this group do this song at the end of a documentary about Ali Farka Toure. Toure is seen dancing throughought. A man wearing a sword comes dancing by. It is my favorite version of this song. Does anyone have it.

  • This music is some of the best and sexiest music on the planet. I love it and they are great live. The only problem with this is that the camera doesn't spend near enough time on the man to the left. He has the best moves of the bunch, his moves are so completely sexy. He's probably in his 50's, he started Tinariwen, and I danced with him when they played at The State. That Rocked!

  • azul

    nice songs brothers

    they sing in Tamashaq

    they are berber not arabic

    "africa for africans"

    azul

  • I was so delighted to see Tinariwen in Ithaca.

What an awesome show. My only disappointment was the lack of female singers........ none.

Guess someone had to stay home & tend the flocks : (.

Seeing them live was a dream come true for me. Now to see them at The festival in the Dessert.

  • Tinariwen- I saw you at the Galway Arts Festival and thought ye were fantastic! Long may you continue to melt people with your hypnotic music! Please come back soon! Galway loves you xx

  • Saw them tonight at the Galway Arts Festival, totally blown away! Never heard about them before though

  • cant wait to see them at the end of the month, wahooo!!!

  • they are imazighen imashaqen twareg not stupid arabs tuderth N tamezgha

  • anybody know what the name of this song is and where I might get it? Thanks :)

  • The name of the song is "Amassakoul 'N' Ténéré".

(means 'traveller in the desert') You can find it on their Album named Amassakoul.

    @YahyaGhamudi

They don't sing in arabic. Tinariwen use their own language Tamashaq.

  • these guys have such a cool sound... i saw them last year at glastonbury and latitude festival, would recommend them to anyone

  • They're from north Mali, central-west africa, nothing to do with arabs. They're from the Touareg semi-nomadic peoples. If you like this go buy their albums, I've got Amassakoul and Aman Iman, both are great.

  • they do have something to do with arabs, cause they live in the sahara(which is mostly sorrounded by arabic neighbors, and arabic culture) and they sing in arabic.

  • probably traded with arabs in the past, but they r not arabs

u can sing in arabic and have nothing with arabs lol, remember they r from mali which is below algeria, an arabic speaking country so common sense that they would be able to speak arabic

    open ur mind lol

btw, the sahara orginally was not dominated by arabs. before da 15th century nomads like tuaregs lived there =)

    p.s. i'm a tuareg

  • I want to share this video, but when I click "Share," nothing happens (regardless of browser). ??

  • P.S. When I click the red "share" after the video is finished, I get a pop-up window saying "bad locale."

  • Nice music. Where part of Africa is this?

  • Mauritania

  • not africa.... soudi arabia (i dont know how to spell this) it might be in africa? im really not sure tbh im only lickle:(

amazing music seen them live at W.O.M.A.D in 2005,2006? or 2004, cant remember they rocks though!

  • dude saudi arabia is NOT in africa. go find a map... (hint: arabian peninsula, middle east)

  • I love this people. Go on making your music!

  • What do I share with these people to be so attached to this piece of music,by the am Nubian.

  • what is the title of the song they are playing?

  • Amassakoul

  • cheers! I was listening to Aman Iman when I got this message! :)

  • GUYS! as i remember they don't like the word 'tuareg', they prefer Chel Tamaschek (sp?) meaning 'the people who speak Tamaschek. There are a lot of different little tribes out there.

Oh and this band groove the best but watch out for Etran Finatawa. They're two different tribes altogether!

  • FUNNY! You know ETRAN FINIATAWA with the Wodaabe!!!!? I do to, had lots of contacts w/ WDB. Funny thing is I met EF in Switzerland during a trip and the guys knew of me (through WBD whom I knew. That sand telephone I tell ya!!!!
