As a member of our church choir, I've been chosen to do The Great Litany a couple of times. I've used this video to practice! Thank you. It's wonderful.
We perform this at my parish too, but it is strange the contrast in the Anglican communion, when you visit a south american parish, it is very pentacostal, priest (pastor) is in a suit and tie, screaming during the sermon waving his bible in the air.. wednesdays the parish goes to the public school in evangelical fashion to win souls over.. and then there is this as well..
not a critique nor a praise, just an observation from one that has seen both
@CommieThreat Well a priest is a priest, therefore is really bad to dress in a suit in the holy mass. It can still be really charismatic and in the same time proper and right as in "Festhögmässan vid Oasrörelsens sommarmöte i Borås 2009 del 12".
@karpov89 See in South America they think the Oxford Movement is a Roman Catholic perversion of Anglicanism, they want to get as far away as possible. Hence, never the vestments (except the archbishops) and alway suit & tie.
@CommieThreat For me that is very strange, as liturgical vestments do not have so much to do with the - per se important - Oxford Movement..even in the Lutheran Church of Sweden litugical vestments where never abolished. Interesting to know though!
@karpov89 Yeah, I mean, personally I love the vestments and high mass, I just thought people should know whats going on in other places in the Anglican communion
@CommieThreat I did not know that there were independent Anglican Churches in South America, just Anglican parishes belonging to Church of England..and in other places Anglican are thinking about converting to the Roman Catholic Church..so things are different in different places.
Thanks for the explanation! Church of England also exists in Sweden (Stockholm and Göteborg) but is mainly for British people in Sweden, belong to the Church of England diocese of Europe, and works closely together with the Church of Sweden.
Funnier to say Diocese of Newark is not ECUSA which includes Haiti...I'm just finding out these things now! My moms last wish was for EASTERN RITES burial service which a visiting minister made darn well was done. I'm tired of McService
@CommieThreat Our interim minister is about to leave and New Jersey is paying for restoration work that will make Saint Lukes of Hope NJ a museum. No chants or high church, just McService and express Communion. Few ministers today can chant or much less carry a tune. Grace
We at Incarnation in Dallas Texas have this service...It's a blessing. I'm thankful that the Anglican tradition is alive and well in our congregation. We use it at the beginning of Advent and Lent. God bless His Church and bring us all into unity.
Yes great to hear the Great Litany. But why must it be very high church to celebrate the mass ad orientem and use incense and bells, is it not just high church?
This is 'Olde Very High Church' as the alter had not been reversed so Celebrate does not face congregation. This service has a direct connection with Eastern Rites which I love....including the 'smells and bells' which my mother requested after her passing in a memorial service interning her ashes next to my father.
It is so nice to see the Great Litany since fewer and fewer churches do it. It sort of reminds me of the more spiritual nature of an Eastern Orthodox service - a true centering prayer.

@karpov89 the diocese of southern cone encompases Argentina, Paraguay, Bolivia, Peru, Chile, and Uruguay. The Diocese of Brazil also stands alone.
Venezuela, Colombia & Ecuador are members of the US Episcopal Church.
Moving further into Central and North America, Central American countries are also ECUSA, but the Diocese of Mexico is independent.

Strangely it was African Doicese that turned a previous Lambeth Conference upside down and sent MISSIONARIES to help us return to Anglican roots.

@brasstureen I just convinced my Priest at my Anglican parish to do the chanting version of "The Great Litany" during the next Lent.
