  • also people color the debate with the snes fx chip or the mega drive virtual processor

these chips are catridge hardware expansions on the original consule, to do effects and feature not avilable to the console hardware its self.

also ataris own game development was rather poor & even games that technically were superiour & couldnt be run on competiors machines, did not look or play as good as the games nintendo and sega were putting out.

but when a game title got it right the jag was amazing

  • i think people forget this was above the average at the time, few machines could do even a psuedo 3d game properly. before the 3do and jaguar were releasesd.

jaguars was infact the more powerful hardware, but the low capacity of the catridge format kept it back, just like catridges let the playstation dominate over the superior n64 hardware.

as well as its complexity like the saturn ment it was difficuilt to programme.

infact its very similar to the saturn motorola controller & multi cpu design

  • It looks like the tank is farting out boulders.

  • The voice sounds like a Filipino tour guide.

  • Man I remember wanting this game so bad when I was a kid. There was some cool concept art released when it was officially announced and it seemed like the coolest idea. Then the reviews hit and they were just abysmal, I couldn't risk spending $50 on it when it might have been the only game I got all year. I've always been curious about this one though, but the videos make the gameplay look incredibly bland for it's time.

  • It's such a blessing when games let you know a target is destroyed. That's genuine concern for blind gamers who don't have the advantage of sight, and need to know whether or not they destroyed their target.

  • @dogeymon83 thanks!!will do!!I wanna get the CD addon just to play Nativ..maybe I could find stuff on that website then.

  • @wondermega4ever - Well look hard. It's run by a married couple who used to have a store but couldn't afford it anymore. Too bad because they own an huge, gigantic inventory of old Atari stuff that they got (forgot how). They're really nice people. But they don't really try hard to make their website anything special. I kinda don't like how they make each page all text. Very hard to read through. But look hard.

  • @dogeymon83 based on your advice...I did have a look. It's true the website is (with all due respect) crap-looking. But it also seems there is a fair amount of games so I should email them to ask directly..their 100% txt is confusing. but thanks again for the website!!

  • @wondermega4ever - Yes, even call them if you want. They are the super nicest people ever. The wife is the one who takes the calls generally, and she and her husband made sure for days that my Atari 7800 was fully tested, refurbished, and ready to be shipped before sending it. She even sat and talked with me about the convention in San Jose I met them in. They answer emails back quick. They are only two people, so be a little patient. Heh.

  • so that game is worth 550$ on ebay and in loose condition???????for this price, I can get a Jaguar...with all great masterpieces like AVP, Rayman and even maybe the CD addon!

  • @wondermega4ever I haven't seen this game go for $550 on EBay, but I haven't been looking for a couple years. BTW, "loose condition" is the only way this game came. It never had an official box.

If it did go for $550, though, that's because an original copy of it is very rare.

Repros are obviously not as much.

  • @wondermega4ever - You can get Aircars for less than $50 from myatari.com

Those two people remain the best people online to get jaguar games from. Incredibly great condition on almost everything!

  • Bad voice acting installed!

  • i dont know how any development team could live with themselves after putting this crap together, and marketing it as 64-bit "entertainment"

  • What? Did they just get their secretary to do the voice overs?

  • @badbirdkc It's possible.

The programming teams back in those days were MUCH smaller than those of today. We're talking generally less than 7 people and a lot of the time less than 5.

  • @badbirdkc - It was actually the programmer's mother.

  • "Target destroyed don't yah know!"

  • This is so cool!!!! Any game I'd like to see what it's like, someone posts video of it!! Thank you so much!!!

  • wait... 3:36 IS THAT? OMG IT IS! it looks EXACTLY like the battlezone tanks!

  • Looks like the games incomplete, I personally think graphicly its ok (*for something that looks incomplete*) the frame rate seems smooth enough,

Reminds me a lot of Battlezone. hmm with more work on this thing, I really think this could have been the true Battlezone 2000, I like how the cockpit doesn't get in the way, and has a minimap (something I really hated about Hover strike)

  • Oh my god it looks so crappy.

  • i had this game in my college days, only played it once it was that bad lol

  • I like the smoothness of the graphics but the game looks boring, and that womans voice...arrrgggghhhh.lol

  • This makes Hoverstrike look like a masterpiece. Boring, drab and just not fun. There is a lot better on the Jag.

  • and I thought the voice on cybermorph was annoying ..... wow ..... lol

  • it reminds me of Night Driver on the Atari 2600.

  • Well, I will never understand why this game is such an expensive Jaguar collectors item... beside that it is rare, it has nothing to offer... IMHO... Okay, multiplayer is a point, but then you better go for a copy of Doom or Battlesphere (little joke as this is even more rare and expensive than aircars). Aircars is the worst cybermorph clone on the Jaguar... but it was never official released (only a few copies were sold by icd), so maybe "final" version would have looked better...

  • Target destroyed

  • yuck. dreck like this really hurt the Jags rep and sometimes it almost seemed like the VG press was giddy to show this as typical over the good stuff.

it reminds me of that old shooter on I think it was Macs where you were an arrow looking thing and you shot other arrow looking tanks.

  • oh my god, are you talking about Bolo ? If so I completely remember that

  • It's kinda hilarious how the tree just snaps in half after you bump into it. XD

  • What was that tank doing from 1:19 to 1:27? Laying eggs?

  • I don't actually want to watch through until that point, but I think you're talking about popping smoke :)

  • LOL...so awful

  • Heh yeah. I mean, I love the Jaguar, but this game... in single player... yeah, not so much.

However, I recently played this via jag-link and was bearable in multiplayer mayhem :)

  • Thanks, you are on a roll with the Jag vids, i really apreciate the efort.

  • Me too. :P This game doesn't look THAT bad...
