holy dogshit! work on your timing. all of your fills would have sounded great if they were in time. For example, at 1:08, you're too occupied trying to hit the snare drum so much that you lose timing, and you stop hitting the hi hats for a second to figure out where you are. also, i think youre doing rimshots the entire time. if you just hit the snare normally, you would get some bounce, and your "fancy" snare hitting would actually sound good and in time.
I wouldn't be surprised if most people that hate on drum-cover video don't play drums at all. This really isn't all that bad. Some rough parts here and there, but hey, no big deal. I'm no pro myself, but work on your timing. Also, the biggest deal I'm sure people are hating on you for is that you're doing quarter/eighth notes on the high-hats during the verses instead of sixteenth notes - really, no big deal. Over all, not bad.
Please, mutemath, provide me with some blinding insight... I would die for a record of your skill on the drumset or your a more detailed critique...

Work on your timing and independence (keep your hi-hat on constant quarters,eighth notes or sixteenths or any combonation)
then repost the cover of this song because Darren not only has great chops but he also has flawless timing and feel

also i'd recommend some remo emperor heads or fiberskin.
ANd now that i think of it some moon gel or gaffer tape to get rid of overtone. haha
