@SpiritHorsePro That is why I always enjoyed watching my daughter race. She never slowed down to pick up the flag or when dropping it off. I don't think I every saw her miss either. Once she had the flag bounce back out and land sideways on top of the bucket (never fell off the bucketl) and they disqualified her because it wasn't in the barrel flag up.

where are you from? just wondering cause your flag course is totally different from mine....you guys run it in like a U shape...ours in a straight line...you pick it up from the first barrel run to the end barrel and turn it then run back and put the stick in the same barrel......that was good though!

I know for a fact its not easy to always have your heels down when gaming.

Ever tried going that fast on a sharp pony and putting a flag into a small cone whilst trying not to knock it over? If not, take a look at mounted games - especially Prince Philip Cup (senior teams are fast - junior teams are fast between cones and change overs. I was on a junior team for a year and our seniors were bloody quick - my pony was actually scared of flags to begin with... Small challenge to get him used to them!)

This is a great example of GOOD RIDING! She is with the motion of the horse and is not behind it by sitting too deep in the saddle and letting the horse fling her backwards as she races. That has obviously increased her ability and the speed of her horse! VERY nice riding!

Ahaha. Wow. I only trot up to the first barrel and then I canter but I can never get it in the other bucket. I have some video from my flag race in some of my videos but the clips are from last year. I have only gotten the flag in once in the like... 4 years I've done it.
It might be easier with a western horse instead of an english horse who only direct reins and not neckreins. I have to control him and hold the flag at the same time.

@Chut619 I am not sure what you mean? Huge QH at the end? There is only one horse in this video and Max is over 16 hands so wasn't sure you where talking about him (the one that is racing) or is there another horse somewhere that pops up that I don't see.

Ohh we have another way of doing it we have to run to the barel in the middle get the flag then run around a barrel infront of the other barrel then turn the barel and put the flag back where we got it :p
Wow! She is absolutely amazing! Her timing is perfect. She doesn't even attempt to slow that horse down. he is booking it & her mind is racing. you can tell. she grabs that flag & gently placed that flag in the cup like it was nothing (: LOVED it! great rider!

@HorseRidingQueen Thanks Jenn never needed a whip for Mac and also didn't believe in it. If a horse has the heart to run you don't need to whip them to make them go faster. She and Mac was an awesome team.

@jesss227 Thanks Jess. Mac was so tall and had such a long stride you couldn't tell how fast he was going until they said the time. Everyone was amazed on how fast he went as he didn’t look it at all. Not like the shorter horses that look fast because their legs seem to moving so much faster unlike Mac in his long stride.
No offense but I have seen WAY BETTER I will admit though not from me. Lol I suck at flags but Chris at Fair grove saddle club has done it in 9.145 secs

weird, Ive always done flag race completely different:
2 barrels, one at the beginning, and one near the end of the arena, you grab the pole/flag from the first then race around the end barrel and throw the flag in from as far back as possible...further back, more time shaved off, miss the barrel, disqualified and or 5 seconds added on to your time.
I dont understand why they use the pales, instead of a metal drum/barrel ? explain?
@hayleyclarke I am not sure why they do it this way. Just always have. It is harder to hit a five gallon pail then a 55 gallon drum so I guess somewhere in the past it was the challenge of it all to go with a smaller target.

That an every day event at our shows, most speed riders do poles, barrels, keyhole, and speed. Some even do barrel pickup. When you going for highpoint you can't slowdown. Even the youngest children are started on a seasoned horse that goes all out no matter what. But I know every where and every one is different. Great run though.
She would do this in 7 seconds depending how big the arena was or far apart the barrels would be set. When you get a video of you doing this I would love to see it. Always like to see another barrel racer doing this class and doing it a good fast and not stopping when picking up or dropping the flag off.
Tthis clip is 11 seconds but you have to relize where the timers are set. You have part of this video where her run is before the she even past the timer and after passing the timer. If I remember right she had a eight second run and no one even came close to her time.
I have seen that on youtube. It iseems a little bit slower also to make the run by droping off and picking up and different flag. I like this way as you can get moving and if your good hit the bucket on the run.

nice run. ive only ever run flag once like this with a horse i sold but ive done it once iwth my qh where you just run down and go around one barrel and put it in the bucket. that vids on here

People will take any chance they get to run off at the mouth about how great they think they are. No one can just shut up and enjoy watching someone else doing well, they always have to be faster and better. So petty and annoying.

@HorseRidingQueen Thanks Jenn never needed a whip for Mac and also didn't believe in it. If a horse has the heart to run you don't need to whip them to make them go faster. She and Mac was an awesome team.

@jesss227 Thanks Jess. Mac was so tall and had such a long stride you couldn't tell how fast he was going until they said the time. Everyone was amazed on how fast he went as he didn’t look it at all. Not like the shorter horses that look fast because their legs seem to moving so much faster unlike Mac in his long stride.

My horse tend to do a complete circle around the barrel, thinking that it's barrel racing. We're overcoming that urge but it's still quite funny.

hey not bad! always good to see some good flag racing. as soon as i finalize my dvd ill upload a video of me running flags i was at the milan tn world flag race last weekend (the show tbone was telling u about) and won flags fri night and the second run saturday

weird, Ive always done flag race completely different:
2 barrels, one at the beginning, and one near the end of the arena, you grab the pole/flag from the first then race around the end barrel and throw the flag in from as far back as possible...further back, more time shaved off, miss the barrel, disqualified and or 5 seconds added on to your time.
I dont understand why they use the pales, instead of a metal drum/barrel ? explain?

@hayleyclarke I am not sure why they do it this way. Just always have. It is harder to hit a five gallon pail then a 55 gallon drum so I guess somewhere in the past it was the challenge of it all to go with a smaller target.

come down to milan tennessee on the 3rd weekend of july at the world flag race and we will show you how to run flags. our track is longer than that and so far our fastest time is a 6,469

@PaintedHorseLover i didnt pick up the flag :( i pick up the flag everytime in practice. i try to push her over to the flag but there is this white gate that always spookes her at the horse shows so she jumps away from it .... if i pick it up i almost always stick it. hopefully today when i go and ride i will get a video

That an every day event at our shows, most speed riders do poles, barrels, keyhole, and speed. Some even do barrel pickup. When you going for highpoint you can't slowdown. Even the youngest children are started on a seasoned horse that goes all out no matter what. But I know every where and every one is different. Great run though.

She would do this in 7 seconds depending how big the arena was or far apart the barrels would be set. When you get a video of you doing this I would love to see it. Always like to see another barrel racer doing this class and doing it a good fast and not stopping when picking up or dropping the flag off.

Tthis clip is 11 seconds but you have to relize where the timers are set. You have part of this video where her run is before the she even past the timer and after passing the timer. If I remember right she had a eight second run and no one even came close to her time.

This way looks alot more difficult than the way we do it now. We just have one barrel to exchange flags on. Great job! :)

I have seen that on youtube. It iseems a little bit slower also to make the run by droping off and picking up and different flag. I like this way as you can get moving and if your good hit the bucket on the run.
