  • why didn't you run for it :(

  • I know two people who know exactly how this feels. Sweet death, and eternal love.

  • such a great movie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I agree @fosforito : I again cried today. Thank you for posting this.

  • fucking heartbreaking.

  • ..one of the best scenes in movie history....acted as only they can....and the music, sublime...tears just roll down the cheeks...

  • this movie is my second favorite, just after Brokeback mountain.. these movies changed my life

  • Very emotional scene, this movie is a masterpiece! The dialogue, story, the interact between Streep and Clint is perfect, and wonderfully directed by Clint. Not to forget that he has co-written the magical theme music.

  • That frickin door handle part!!! So powerful. 10 +!!!

  • I CRY . I LOVE THIS MOVIE.

  • Ciu homaj estajo pasas por tre intensa amo kiel oriento. Llàstima Ol estas d'forgesi nin d'ci tiu granda amo.... Por aliaj kompromisoj.

  • that´s my green truck,,, any girl interested?

  • heartbreaking!

Jeder Gedanke wortlos sichtbar.

  • I CRY WHEN I SEE THIS PART

  • one of eastwoods best films by far!

  • Merci pitoune, quelle intensité... vraiment... prendre l'occasion, ou laisser aller, voilà la question...

  • I don't think there is one Meryl Streep film I haven't enjoyed watching. She is so diverse. She makes you laugh and cry and think. What an actress. The same applies to Clint Eastwood. He even had a bash at singing in Paint Your Wagon as did Meryl. It must be hard to be so good.

  • I cant imagine what it must feel like when she couldnt hold the door anymore as he was going away, that must have been a killing moment, when she saw everythiung going away

I love this movie so much, cna never avoid crying

  • Chicas a buscar el pañuelo. No se puede creer esta escena.

  • sad and impressive feeling....

  • Lust=is the short run. Love=comes with time and knowing someone/something. My own opinion. But, when you truly love someone/something you know a-lot about it. The positives and negatives. For a woman/man it's about knowing who they are completely. Until that time, it's lust or that shady areay in between lust/love. Therefore, she lusted after the photographer.

  • @tennismike22 ...Love is not habit....love is madness...love is not kindness....love is not a simple affection....love is not just knowing someone....love is loving someone without a reason....It happens and you don't know why it happened....that' s love......a mistery....love is when you miss it....when it's disorder....you love that disorder...love is passion.... love is confusion....If it was so simple and clear...It wouldn't be love...Love doesn't come with time...it would be a built thing.

  • @Luna983 If you Luna can truly love someone without knowing them, that's great. But to me that's more likely lust. The old couple simply holding hands after being married for many years is love. The young couple missing one another, being confused, writing romantic letters, having passionate times togethers is lust. Yes, those things also happen with old married couples too, but not as frequent. :) this is a shades of grey discussion but hey it was a good movie :)

  • My fav. movie. It always makes me cry. To know this kind of love must be beautiful.

  • i saw this 4 the very 1st time on tv once and my heart was pounding cause i was thinking she was gonna open the door and get out of the car

meryl streep is perfection....i hope one day to be an actress like her

  • I cried

  • @MsElvisman me too :'(

  • This scene reminds me of a time when I loved unconditionally. Do you know how much will power it took Meryl Streep's character, Francesca, not to open that door. This scene and the ending is one of the saddest scene's I have ever seen in any movie. Every year on his birthday she would go to the place where they went. She read a book. The things we do for love. I think Francesca was very brave.

  • get out of the car and run girl run!!!! Personally I think she was crazy for not going! She was just a slave and prisoner to her husband.

  • @ElvisFreak77 Yes, run, hurry while you still can! I know what you mean... Except that Francesca can't go, and not just because of her husband--there's the children too and her love for them and knowledge of what her disappearing with a stranger would do to them. In the end she's a prisoner of who she is as a person, and the choices she's already made, not really her husband. (If he was a bastard she'd still stay to love and protect her kids.) It's about who she is--that's why she doesn't go.

  • Such torment......such deep love.......I often wonder why my path was crossed by a man such as this.......then I feel comfort in that we DID have that short, precious time together. How different my life would have been had I never met him. Sometimes, I feel it is worth the pain.

  • somptueux film

  • Just watched this for the first time since 1995 with my gf last night who had never seen it. I knew she would love it, but what I found interesting is in the 15 years since how much I saw the move differently, the dialouge, the characters. You learn a lot in life as you experience more. This movie made a lot more sense to me last night than it did when I was 22.

  • .....we wszechswiecie niejednoznacznosci ten rodzaj pewnosci zdarza sie raz i tylko raz,i nie powtorzy sie ,chocbys zyla po wielokroc............R.J.Waller

  • @MonikaO1112 ;(

  • przepiekna scena, przepiekny film......znajomy pozyczajac mi ksiazke mowil ze nie sposob opanowac lez.............ilekroc czytam ten ksiazke placze...za kazdym razem .ogladajac ten film placze...............tez przezylam takie rozstanie :((( wspomnienia bola......

  • @MonikaO1112 dokładnie tak, pięknie ujęłaś sedno. Pozdrawiam :)

  • @synoptic33 dziekuje,rowniez pozdrawiam:)

  • the most amazing movie of all time

  • Amazing film, i never knew i could of all people love this film. Normally i love sci fi, action, horror, comedys, not some streched out love storyline, so moving and touching.

  • what a gorgeous heartbreaking scene: timing is off to make this relationship work, but it is profound in its effects on both of their hearts...both gratitude for tasting something so wonderful and yet so sad at the timing of it being off so its not workable....for those of us who have had such a taste of such all i can say is that the deep resonating sadness combined with joy and gratitude will always be in our hearts...I broke up with my ex 2 yrs ago...and yet every day i think of her.

  • Best scene in history movies... talking about feelings... u can't take it more, then u cruy

  • This has happened to me and already going to have my ashes thrown in the river at the dock where it all started.

  • @piscolabisuicida,I had the chance 'once' as well. I don't know what happened..4 years now seems like only 3 weeks. I know I will never love again as I did, that person touched my heart so strong it still hurts 10 years on..I will never feel that way about anybody for as long as I shall live. This I am sure of, as i have loved since but never the way I love her. This film was special to us and I am lucky to have had the time we had. Thanks to Clint & Meryl...

  • Clint didn't have much films in the 90's. The Rookie, In the Line of Fire and Absolute Power are my favs but this film was very beautiful and touching too. Clint Eastwood is real genius. I love the 90s so much

  • Lepiej przeczytać książkę, a potem dopiero obejrzeć film

  • @synoptic33

  • i love it.

  • For my experience, please never leave go away a true love, maybe never will appear again.

These kind of emotions are, in my opinion, the secret of happiness, feel free, totally open, the wish to build with a person the greatest human project together, a love story.

I had the chance and i lost it, if i´ll have it again, i´ll give my best for keep it alive, renew it every day.

Thanks Clint and Meryl for this moments.

  • Yaeh. What is he waiting for, Meryl?!

  • @TheCHeYeNNe70

thanks for sharing, I like Meryl Streep, she is so natural.

I haven't watched this movie but I will watch it asap, it seems like a great movie.

  • I hate this movie. No one is supposed to care about the husband she was two-timing. Yeah, I know hubby was a real sufabitch and all for being such a boring, ordinary guy.

  • Clint Eastwood is definitely the King Of The Hill when it comes to Drama directing, his simplistic, economical style just puts you in awe. He's 80 now and I wish he'd make more films like this

  • Fantastic scene you can feel it !! always makes me cry!!

    wonderful movie.

You can see her heart being dragged away with Robert's truck, oh god this film.

  • Another great movie and great actor and actress...

  • I just watched this movie with my Mom and I see why it is one of her favorites. This scene definitely stuck with me and I can't wait to add this movie to my collection. Thanks for posting :)

  • lol i saw an advertising in a two and a half men about this movie, heard of it but didnt saw it, well anyway not really my movie genre, allthough looks pretty good and since Clint Eastwoods in it it must be good

  • breaks my heart every time.

  • I think Meryl Streep is the best actress in the world. I don't have any doubt about it. She is the Queen.

  • I love this picture beutiful Meril the best ..

  • i love this part...

i couldt stop my self from crying... she sacrificed her love for her family...

i hope my mom can do that for me and my sisters too.... :(

  • simply the best!

  • Really sad scene. I felt bad for both Robert and Richard. I think Robert offered her the life she always wanted (and love of course), but at the same time, would you be willing to hurt your innocent husband for that offer? Brutal situation.. Love's a tough one..

  • This is an incredible scene. Only a few minutes longs, but it seems like hours.

  • preciosa

  • Walk away, get out of this car, Francesca!! One should never live with so deep remorses!

    Simply wonderful!

  • This scene touches my heart like no other - Suzanne, there isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about you and what our life together could have been - go well sweetheart - I hope you find the belonging and love you so crave and saddened that it wasn't me who could have spent his life with you.

  • Magnifique, fabuleux ? Non. Indescriptible.

  • the sadest moment, I ever have seen in a movie. i understand her so well, how she felt. so sad. always makes me cry

  • I love you Frank, I always will...

  • Human heart and mind is deep and can't be forced.

I am one that facin' the pain and now I am becomin' to be the forgotten in a man's heart.

Now you can't kill yourself with the love that hurts when you're already dead.

You go live with it, the long memories, the sweet sorrow, the undyin' love in pain.

  • I adopted his line in this movie, "hey, I'm a loner, not a monk."

  • I lost one

  • the only film that made me cry. beautiful eastwood is a master.

  • wonderful movie

  • "Love won't obey our expectations. What Robert and I had could not continue if we were together." If that is true why should she go with him even if she was single when they met ? Even if we have this kind of love for awhile, this telling me to stay single "For better or for worse.

  • Just Love Mr Eastwood My Dog

  • My life in turmoil, this picture puts it all together for me again. The pain, the joy and most of all, the power of true love that comes but once. I experienced that in my life and to this day, every day, I remember that one true love that slipped away, but my memories will go with me. This is true acting and both of them have a talent that is unsurpassed

  • @InFltSvc tell us what happened

    please x

  • This really touched me....... being a photographer i could relate to the situation of getting the job done but getting involved..... a beautiful film ..... I say again this touched me deeply..... a 6'4 guy crying huh..... the power of film!

  • my god, i still remember watching this movie for the 1st time, i was a teenager and it was clear to me that stories like this one CAN happen in real life. years after that i crossed my life with a woman like that, curious, inteligent, amazing, full of life, yet, closed in some kind of cage she's built herself. and i was sure this is it. i stil am. never in my life i felt like this before. wanna say THANK YOU MY LOVE. thank you you did step out of that car. you are bravest of all.

  • @thomascreo well said my friend, hope that feeling never leaves you........peace

  • my all time favourite scene!! I think in our lifetime, we all get one chance, but most of us......cant make of it.......i love this movie....this reality.

  • It hurt 2 watch this....

  • this scene is to painfull....she should have go to him

  • What is the name of that song?

    Film is amazing!

  • I will love this film forever!!!! One of the best love - stories every.... Meryl & Clint were excellent... I read the book too, but I prefer the film...

  • Finest movie scene. Ever.

  • ruby i miss you

  • i often wish i could just see you ruby but you told me we couldnt talk and i dont want to piss you off in any way..its not easy not talking for a year

  • Meryl Streep should have won 10 Oscars by now. She is a gift from the Acting Gods. Eastwood, best storyteller in the game today.

  • @tsiaotsiao THE greatest Actress ever..Katharine Hepburn only WON 4...NO they got it right...Streep is very good...and makes it all look easy...But Great Kate..you always would watch her saying NOW that is a great Actress in motion...No ONE has ever come close to Katharine and not even Meryl...

  • @tsiaotsiao

    are you crazy?

  • I never cry watching movies but this scene just gets me. So heartbreaking, i like cry my eyes out lol.

    Brilliant performance by Meryl Streep

  • this scene is beautiful and so sad, i cant help but cry when i see it too

  • Maybe this is about Francesca and her choices, but to me the heart breaking part will always be the look on Robert's face when he stands in the rain.

  • Agreed.....this part gets me every single time.....A woman's heart IS as deep as the ocean. We are left with choices that are hard to make - but we embrace them at any cost. sniff sniff.....SHE SHOULD HAVE WENT!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this is like the saddest scene ever! I always cry in this part every time I watch this movie...now I'm crying again...*sniff sniff*

great performance by these 2 legends!!!

  • this is just the best f**king movie ever made

  • I'm 37, this past week was the 1st time I have watched this movie. There are always those movies that slip bye you. I saw this movie and wept and wept. I swear this is a story about me and a wonderful woman I met. I am married, love my wife and 3 children, but the woman I met this past summer touched my heart and soul. You will always be loved by this man! She loved butterflies and I will have a butterfly on my headstone and she will always be with me...

    P.S. Thank you Mr. Eastwood

  • You obviously don't love your wife enough.

  • @KingJamesInc Well sure I love my wife...and my three children. That's why I stayed. I'm a devoted father and I do love my wife. Like all marriages, you have ups & downs. The summer I met this other woman me & my wife was going through a bad time. What I did was wrong but I have no regrets, everything happens for a reason. We have both moved on now, me & this other woman but we will always love each other.

  • Clint in the rain (1:15) OMG- it breaks your heart. Just open the door Francesca. get out of the truck and run to him.

  • Nooo!

I've never seen this movie but I was yelling at Meryl telling her to get out of the car and go!

  • I must have watched this movie a thousand times. I have to say I cry every time, like it was the first ,with this scene. This was truly a heart wrenching love story.

  • the most heart wrenching scene of all time

  • Indeed!

  • sorry meant to say - i recently WATCHED an interview*

  • i have been studying this film for two years an i have watched this scene many times an i still break my heart its like you feel every inch of her pain. i recently a interview about this movie and meryl streep had ice packs on her eyes for days she couldnt stop crying after she shot the scene even the crew were crying. i think this is the greatest REAL love story of all time. we all have to make a decision about love at some point in our life. !

  • what do you mean studying this film? It sounds really interesting :)

  • I feel bad for all three of them. The husband, wife, and Eastwood. They both love her and she loves them but she is in love with only one of them. On her husbands death bed he apologized for not being able to give her everything. truly sad!

  • et je me dis...qu'aurais je fait à sa place?

  • Beautiful and genuine. I don't remember crying so bitterly during the film. And yesterday was a Valentine's Day... I can't stop remembering what happened to me... my love.

  • Very very touching moment! I felt so bad for her!

  • ..simply....one of THE BEST love scenes ...no more words..it's all been said.....

  • Wow.... This one was tough. I grew up in Winterset. Good friends still live there. I left in 1962. My wife worked at the University of Northern Iowa and knew the author of the book.

  • it made me cry. it's making me cry at the moment. i have no words actually. just... crying.

and the main sentence echos since i've heard it.

tragic and huge at the same time.

i wont forget any of its moments.

  • touch my heart

  • damnnn i hate this part

make me cryyyyy a lot! :(

    i love this movie

  • This must be the most emotional and tear jerking scene in Hollywood history! I cried like a baby through the whole scene.

This kind of love is worth dying for!

  • this is one of my all time FAV movies ever... SO poignant, Beautiful... I don't condone "affairs", but I guess in this circumstance it "almost" seems beautiful, life changing, at least it was for Fannie, Robert.

I adore the soundtrack to this movie as well...

this scene ABSOLTELY KILLS me everytime I watch it and have seen it many times, have it as well...

"this kind of love comes but once in a Lifetime"... ah to be Loved like that...

  • I will forever cry when I see this part of the film. It is my absolute favourite. Every time I hear the love theme playing "Doe Eyes" it makes me cry too... warms the heart/breaks my heart... lost love?... forever undying love <3

  • My favorite scene, too! Makes me want to cry every time!

  • Every time I watch this scene, I cry my eye balls out.

  • When I watched this film years ago, I felt for her...today I feel for me...

  • aw sorry, I guess alot of us have been there in a sense, we have ALL at one time or another longed for someone we KNEW we could never have, or them us...

    :/

  • The most romantic scene in a movie? Maybe along with something from Casablanca.

  • This is a heart breaking scene. It must be so hard for her to choose! I wish she was running after him, but her dissision was very good to stay with her children and her husband. The end is so tragic, but it really proves that she is a real mother. She stays with her husband for him and her children.

  • I TOTALLY agree, must have been Pure hell for her, but she KNEW she must "stay" with her husband and her family, despite her Love for Robert Kincaid... Beautiful, Moving story, but that is CLASSIC Streep and Eastwood for ya, two of my most Favorite actors... If you like this one, check out "Our of Africa" with Streep and Redford (another one of my fav actors and lol, been "in love" with Redford since I was a young girl, am now 45 lol)... it is also a Beautiful movie based on a true story...

  • correction, sorry: "Out of Africa" I meant

  • It's a heart breaking point of this movie....it brings tears in my eyes...sometimes marriage can only represent chains in a womans life.....and that feeling that once was there faded away......hugs to you all.

  • like in the movie "Titanic" the line comes to mind: "a woman's heart is as DEEP as the ocean"... how VERY TRUE... when you watch this you CAN "FEEL" Fannie's torment... POWERFUL stuff...

  • I would stay her husband wasn't that bad. The love she shared with Robert will always be in her heart and that's good enough.

  • Its human nature to stick to what you know, familiar surroundings and a place you call home. A place you know. And her responsibilities came first. But still, I wanted her to go. Because as horrible as it is, as selfish as it seems, I would have. I couldn't be strong as her. I'm in that situation now myself, the choice is, stick to what I know...or risk it. Just gotta ask yourself this one question in life, will YOU get out of the car? Or will you stay? x Thanks for posting x

  • I'm a hugh Clint fan, and wasn't really sure If I'd like this one because you know I'm used to seeing him blow the shit out of a baddie but this and Every Which Way But Loose are two of my favourite films, BOMC is very sad though.

Beau film.

  • I've ever been once into a situation like this, so much pain left to feel, I couldn't open the door and run to the man I truly love, because my life was always up to a great man who lifted me up from below hell.

Only the love I always keep inside my shattered soul, till the day I die.

Love this scene so much, even it's almost breakin' me apart in tears.

  • I can go throughout the whole movie without crying until i get to this part. It's the whole "this kind of certainty'' comes to mind and there's such a natural chemistry between Clint and Meryl, it really rips your heart out. Breaks my heart!!

Please check out the video i have up on my page! It's a montage of the film to one of my songs which is based upon the film so i really hope you like it! it's called Four Days.

    Here's to a great 2010 too! x

  • @ClaireBoswell Your song is amazing, I really love it!

  • In a different scenario, had this housewife run away with the guy, she might gotten tired of him as time went. Then she would ended up lost everything, her family, kids, as well as all the love and dreams.

  • @overseachininadoll I agree, and it's like she said: If she leaves with him, what they had would be ruined. It's still sad though :(

  • 1st time saw the money last night. Realized right away that it's the inspiration source for "Desperate Housewife" which later becoming the sensation of entertainment. But I don't really like this story.

On the other hand, if this "4 days of perfect extra marital affair" is the only love affair one ever has in ones' entire life, then yes it could be a big deal because it's the only deal.

  • Unbelievable tear jerker.....I cried at the end!
