  • I really like it. You are The Master. If only I could play that well.

  • great playing ! very nicely done

  • damn good ....rock on!

  • haha , it took me a long time too before to play in open G , thanks a lot for this really good demo , Cheers , Philippe

  • That was really cool. I thought you were takin' it a bit fast at first, but your playing and the mood in general won me over. Really gives some insight into Keith's songwriting brilliance, too. Thanks for posting. If you can, check "Rosetta West - Shine" for a Keith-inspired open G riff song.

  • Man u rock !

  • AWSOME! LOVE IT!

  • Very cool man ! An old school rock guy rocking a classic on a strat =)

  • rock on dude!

  • grande!!

  • Great lesson my friend, the best yet.

  • That was fantastic. IAny tips or things to keep in mind when soloing in Open G, in general?

  • Great job !!!

    5*

  • absolutely brilliant well done man. class!

  • Great job!

  • Very nice indeed - any idea where I can find the patterns you're using to play lead in open G? thanks

  • Awsome !!

  • simply great!thanks

  • We played HTW @ a casino last night and they liked it so much they asked us to play it again .... and we did. :) (17 uncultured infidels needing hearing aids LoL)

  • Those dislikes must have been people who didn't like, "Honky Tonk Women" anyways. Nicely done.

  • And what do you know anyway? With a name like yours you gotta be about 12 ain't you?

  • Like you said mate "anymore"

  • Steady on man, nobody does it better than keef :)

  • @davey1965 Keith Richards could do it as well as this guy anymore. Keith is a sloppy live guitarist

  • That was outstanding. You play it better than Richards. You have a unique style as well. I also like the way you sequenced the rythm track . Cheers!

  • Great job ringo

  • Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • wonderful!

  • great job buddy....it sounds good....it sounds so keefe... patrick g.

  • Awesome Dude!

  • Awesome, Dude!

  • brilliant

  • How do you get that little squeek of feedback at 1:55??? Perfect.

  • How do you get that little squeek of feedback at 1:55???

  • @llilibel03 Hi It's a little trick that came into prominence when ZZ Top released La Grange. You only have a little bit of plectrum protruding from your thumb and forefinger. The important thing is to find a spot on the string that will produce a harmonic. When you find that spot, hit the string and in the same action follow through onto the string with your thumb. Use a little added overdrive and sustain.

  • @Ringorawson Also known as a pinch harmonic

  • @Ringorawson u forgot to mention its called a pinched harmonic. :)

  • @Ringorawson Yep, Billy calls it Squelking...

  • @llilibel03 That little squeak is called a 'pinch harmonic' if that will help you research how to do them. They're not hard do once learned, but are most effective on electric guitar.

  • @llilibel03 its called a pinch harmonic, look up zakk wylde bro lol

  • @llilibel03 that's called a "pinch harmonic". You hold the pic real "short" in your fingers and let the fleshy tip of your thumb strike the string (the main note your playing). Takes a bit of practice, but you'll get it. Higher gain settings on your amp help make it easier, but you can do it on an acoustic unplugged as well. Good luck:)

  • @llilibel03 Look up "squealies" or "pinch harmonics" - careful though, once you get the hand of 'em you'll have all those groupies to tend with!

  • Excellent! I can tell that you are in heaven when you play your guitar... thats awesome

  • Nicely done.

  • You did a great job of weaving the rhythm and lead together. Nice.

  • Very impressive, as you were able to play the best of both guitar parts (from what I can tell). I love the song and love the sound of your Strat on this one.

  • Spot on! Great feeling as well. Wow!

  • Really great job there....))) I enjoyed it so much that I quickly took my guitar, tuned it up in open G and jam with the Stones....! You really nailed it, man!

  • man, if the Rolling Stones need a back up guitarist, you can stand first in the queue!!!!!!!!!!!

(I am kidding, Keith Richards will never accept any more a giutar player better than he is. Remember a certain Mick Taylor?????)

Good work, great sound and result.

  • This is very cool, you really rocked this song bigtime !

Way to Go ! LOTS of fun to listen to ! ! !

  • Wonderful.Pure class. I'm determined I'll play this one day, although I doubt I'll ever be as good as you! I can't help singing it as you play.

  • @MINX281 Thanks for that!

  • @Ringorawson I can tell it's not so much a DIFFICULT song to play, but you need to possess the soul involved with a bluesy tune like this.

You my friend, have rhythm and you manifest a friendship with your guitar and its capability. keep rocking

What would Keith think i dont know, lol

  • AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Nice job my man. Outstanding.

  • The best Honky Tonk on Youtube.

  • damn thats perfect !

  • There is a new book out entitled "What would Keith Richards Do". In it, there is a quote attributed directly to Keith in which he freely admits that Ry Cooder came up with the licks for Honky Tonk Women.

  • Hi Tonasse

I originally thought that Mick Taylor played the licks in Honky Tonk Women. When I googled "Mick Taylor Honky Tonk Women" It came up with a quote from Mick Taylor that Ry Cooder taught Keith how to tune his guitar to open G tuning. So, I, would not be surprised to learn that some of the licks were Ry's.

  • When Cooder was a young man, he was brought into the studio to assist the Rolling Stones in recording their album Let It Bleed, and one day he was playing guitar, goofing around, clicking this and popping that, and Keith Richards came over and said, "Oh that's very interesting, what you're playing; how do you do that? You tune the E strings down to a D, and you put your fingers there, oh, I see, and you pull them off quickly like that, yes, that's very good" and Cooder showed him the whole thing

  • You guys are right on with the Cooder comments. But there's more. Not only are those Ry's style licks but they are, according to Ry, his very own licks in the middle 8th, that were recorded on Honky Tonk Woman. Apparently after Brian Jones died he sat in with the Stones and they asked him to join. He respectfully declined. Strange but true. Anyway, he says he played the licks on the track but the Stones didn't credit him for his contribution on that particular song, but did on other songs.

  • Outstanding!

  • amazing plain amazing

  • well done Michael..i,ve watched this about 20 times now and almost there ! i hope to play this in the pub come January . this number is really rocking your soul your face is loving it... thanks a lot ..have a good christmas

  • @lewars1912 Thanks I will...^_____^

  • ringo thanks for the inspiration. Your great to watch cause you get right into it. Now I have to watch you for a year to tryin grasp each bit ... lol ... keep it up.

    Cheers from Kiwi Skye

  • awesome

  • Awesome, awesome, friggin awesome !!!!

What a great job you did on this song and I love how you get into the song. I have been playing for a few years and I would love to be half as good as you some day.

    Thanks for the video.

    Mike

  • i think keith richards is so underrated because he is not that great lead solo guitar player, but his rhytm playing it just the bomb, i dont even like long solos...

  • If you watch the stones playing at Hyde park live you'll see Mick Taylor doing the nice bits as this vid and Keith only comes in on the high solo work. Keith credits Taylor with most of the nice work. According to me Taylor uses regular tuning live. Might be wrong.....?

  • great job

  • Awesome best cover I've ever heard, very tight and gritty sounding!!!

  • I have watched this video for almost a year i think!

I love hearing and watching you play this song,I was blown away the first time i watched this!!

Im learning guitar right now, since school started and I love it,people who play like you help me to keep learning and be patient.

Thank you so much for the upload and God Bless!

    ( btw,I favorited this video! =) )

  • Thanx Sarah. You've inspired me.

  • your welcome!

    and thanks too!

Are you planning on adding more videos of you playing?

For some reason,I could see you playing Steve Miller band songs really good.

  • brilliant !!!

  • Right on! Hopefully a band of musicians are enjoying your talent on the weekends. Thanks for posting.

  • regular tuning is E, A, D, G, B, E. What is open G tuning?

  • Open G tuning is (from the 6th string down) - D G D G B D. I'm told that Keith sometimes removes the 6th sting when playing with this tuning soas when he strikes the open chord, the tonic note (5th string G) is sounded first.

  • Nice guitaring there!

  • my dad loves using this video to learn

  • ive just burnt my fender!! well done mate

  • Great. Brill. Far from me to suggest anything to such a tallent but would it not make it easier when you do the slide up then back down if you just did E third fret then hammer on to A second fret then open G then pull of A second fret. I learnt this of you and just find that little bit easier that way but dont get me wrong sounds great anyway

  • WOW NICE WORK!!!

  • 10 Stars outta 10....you KICK ASS!!

  • NICE!

  • Oh yeah.dirty 12bar.love to sing along with ya.I also like the LOVE YOU LIVE version.much to the chagrin of the purists

  • Mate.....Absolutely wicked. Great groove , greasy licks & excellent feel. Not to mention the fingerstyle technique.

    Congratulations.

  • Great sound, nothing beats a strat. i think my guitarist plays this with normal tuning. But the open G tuning sounds really cool.

  • Thanx!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    5 stars!!!!!!!!!

  • Excellent job!!

If Keith kicks the bucket you fit the bill!
