Secondly THERE IS NO SUCH THING as a vitamin. no foods have vitamin c or d or w/e they all either contain acid or base oils and nothing else.

    IF you look at a vitamin under a microscope, all you'll see it mixed color (oil) the colors/shapes ALWAYS come out different..and is IMPOSSIBLE to tell them apart let alone name them.

  • @chillyayo2012 no, im saying under a scope you can't tell which is vitamin C or which is vitamin A cause they always look different and so its impossible to name something you can't tell apart.

    Vitamins are basically enzymes living in an acid or base environment, enzymes can die just like everything else & when you extract power it. that pill is basically dead enzymes. If you ate NOTHING but supplements for a year you would die. cause its inactive dead enzymes otherwise you'd be able to live.

    2) Vitamins can be isolated. Just like amino acids can. Search "human hair in bread from China"

    3) if you take nothing but vitamins and water (don't forget that) you'll live longer than a year in most cases. Eventually you'll die not because the vitamins are fake, but because you need calories for energy. No one ever claimed vitamins had calories.

    I agree all you need is food IF food provided the essential vitamins. However to all the processed food we eat is stripped of all the nutrients in favor of giving it a longer shelf life. Since most food we eat isn't without being processed we need supplements in order to meet the daily requirements. The average meal for a person is processed food 24/7, no fresh fruits or veggies.

    So I think to say that vitamins that are not natural are poision, is a stretch to say the least. Organic vitamins are probably more effective, that's all..

  • All this talk about what we should eat, do etc. I say, don´t trust anyone. Go back to the basics to have a healty life. Eat as much natural ANYTHING as you can and exercise. Both my sister and I are iron deficient. Ok, I need to take iron supplements but still, I try to get my iron from FOOD first, and when I feel a bit off, I pop in a supplement. Just to help: spinach, (eat it raw), red meat, and surprisingly, HOT CEREAL (loaded with iron) are a great way to boost your iron level if needed.

  • I worked in the supplement industry for years after retireing from the U.S. Navy. I can tell you that supplements can help only a little bit and there is no such thing as a cure. I think this guy is doing all he can to sell book or he has stock in the supplement industry. Save your money and do all the home remedy helpers.

  • There are a few brands that do there best to not add the unneeded and rather dangerous metals and such. I like NSI, they are not top of the line, as in, most expensive you can buy, but I've never felt I was getting dirty vitamins either. Would be nice if there was a method like diabetics use for checking what we are low on. "Oh, i need some extra A today, no problem, grab a carrot or two." Ever notice they only have a test for things they know they can charge a mint for? That blows!

  • Why the hell do people buy vitamins when the mark up of then are 800% for what is in the bottle. Heaven forbid some one did a medical study and proved it helped, the mark up goes to 1600%. There is not a dollars worth of vitamins or minerals in a 500 count bottle

    You don’t know what quality or purity of the vitamins &mineral you get. You don’t know where it was manufactured at. Even if it says usa, it may only been put into bottles in the usa.

  • The dirty secret is that most every vitamins are made in china.Some of them say they are made here, but only the pills are made here, the powder is from china. Independent testing has found everything from mercury to arsenic in them. Do you think its a coincidence that they make you feel sick after taking them. That was never the case 25 years ago. Oh and the vitamin C added in your juice, that one got the worst test result.

  • I was taking a supplement from GNC: MegaMen. It costs about 33 cents a day. Good one, but mega doses of B, etc. I switched to Kirkland Mature Multi Adult 50+. Costs about 1/10th the cost or 3 cents per day. I read it got good reviews. However, I eat a well balanced diet of about 2000 calories per day, 160 grams of protein, 30ish grams of fat. Hey kids... that's less fat all day than a Whopper from Burger King.

    You aren't getting enough fat. Men need 20-30% of calories from fat to maintain healthy hormone levels and absorb fat soluble vitamins. ( vitamins A, D, E, K )

  • I was told NOT to buy vitamins from big chain stores like Walmart or Target because their vitamins are made of of all kinds of junk and the FDA doesn't regulate vitamins so they can put that in there. You should buy from a vitamin store.

    I did not get your insult- I do take others but noticed vitamins from fruits are more effective over the pill. And apparently in fruits there are other antioxidants like polyphenols, anthocyanides, fibre, etc.

Most vegetables on the store shelves are GM foods, meaning they're put out in the market place by Monsanto farmers.   • Essential vits imo are:- EFA's - Krill oil, (much more powerful than fish oil), Trace Elements, (without these u do not absorb anything) multi vits (good balanced type with plant derivatives not synthetics), anti-oxidents (imp. to scavenge for free radicals) & Probiotics (to balance gut flora & enhance immune system)

    Every one should at very least be on these basics, esp if they want to aim to live their true entire life span which is actually 120-140..!

    People are only living to mlddle age!

  • GrowA - Organic vegetables cost more because they don't have pesticides being used on them, so more of the organic vegetables are destroyed or damaged by insects. This of course drives costs up. Plus, stands to reason, if something is better, (as organic vegetables are), it usually costs more. Supply and demand.

  • By buzz i mean caffeine buzz because they have caffeine in them, hence the name "1 a day energy" I think there's like 200 or 300 mg in each one, about as much as a large coffee.

  • I was wondering why so many vitamins give well over 100% of the MDR. Wht would anyone need over 100% of the MDR???? Why even have it in the pill?

  • because the MDR is the "MINIMUM daily requirement" that the government set. The government wants people to be deficient so they will grow ill and either die or buy drugs from their pharmaceutical friends. The vitamin companies know what the human bodies really need and, as a consequence, when you take vitamins over 100% of the MDR you tend to get more energy because that's what you're body really needs.

  • ryansatworkfc - The minimum USDRA allowances are just that minimums and are to prevent vitamin deficiency diseases like scurvy and rickets. Getting 100% of the USRDA doesn't mean good health, as many people assume.

  • AnnaMishel - Consuming 100% of the USRDA, or, "MDR", doesn't mean good health. Those recommendations were established way back in the 1950's when farmlands weren't over-farmed and as a result, nutrient depleted. I've read that 1 ear of corn from the 1950's has the equivalent nutrients of 13 ears of corn today. Our food is seriously nutrient-deficient and this can have serious health issues, including the epidemic of obesity we see now. 100% of the USRDA doesn't mean good health.

  • Oh, because I had a magnesium deficiency that was misdiagnosed as anxiety. So, when i started taking magnesium i felt so much better. Most people have mag. deficiencies and dont know it.

  • Magnesium deficiency has ALOT of symptoms. Anxiety and depression, uncontrolled movements ( Magnesium relaxes the muscles in your body), night sweats, heart rate dysfunction, and if your deficient in magnesium long enough, your body starts depleting potassium as well. THats the only reason i figured out i was deficient, because the doctors saw i had no potassium and it was strange. The list goes on and on.

  • @PlatnumEyez True! Mag is another nutrient that society is really deficient in, next to vitamin d, which we, and myself as a result of my last Dr. visit, are deficient in. I've been supplementing with vit d, and my levels have risen. But Supplementation isn't a FULL contingency for overall proper diet and excercise, supplementing "alone" is the lazy way out. Also, see what one's body needs, everybody doesn't need certain supplementation like others, everybody is different.
