THE FIRST concert ever in Seattle's KingDome (it's been demolished within the past 10 years). I was there and WHAT an amazing time it was. Instantly sold out
The Kingdome (officially King County Multipurpose Domed Stadium[1]) was a multi-purpose stadium located in Seattle's SoDo neighborhood. Owned and operated by King County, the Kingdome opened in 1976 and was best known as the home stadium, etc... etc...
@crankycase I absolutely agree with you. The 1st time I got to listen to the "Band On The Run" album and when I heard this song I said to myself that this is very Lennon influenced. But what can you expect... he did play with Lennon for nearly 14 years.
@crankycase i thought it was lennon when i first heard 'let me roll it'- but my dad told me it was mccartney. this song completely changed my view of paul.
It does sound like a Lennon guitar lick, I'm trying to remember from where. The chorus is reminiscent of something by Clapton or Harrison, too. Nothing wrong with that, though. There are few examples of McCartney and Lennon borrowing each other's licks in their solo years.
In Japan, Paul is a sweet love song maker, and John is a Rock'n'Roller. This song proved that Paul can make Heavy Metal. I love this song. I play this bass, too.
Beatles yes, but, I was never a McCartney fan... Except for the Band on the Run album: I love the it and I can safely say it's one of the very best albums of the 70's.
@hyenajack I can agree with you on this issue. Band On The Run was McCartney's best album. Songs like Silly Love Songs are just too atrocious and to think it was a "Beatle" that did that song. Let Me Roll It seems to have the style that Lennon would do... don't you agree?
@ultragoji1 Disagree - Silly Love Songs is one of my (many) fav macca songs - it is simple but ingenious. One just has to get the message and the songe will fall into place :-). Useda to not like it that much myself, but now I love it.
@nicolcameron Oh, I understand the message that Paul had on that song the 1st time I heard it - and I was 5 years old the 1st time I heard it play on US radio back in '76. It's just when you're used to hearing more of his "progressional" music from his latter Beatle days and early Wings... Silly Love Songs is just too simplistic for me to enjoy. If you watch how Paul states about simplistic lyrics in the movie "Let It Be" and then to come out with SLS... it's too hypocritical.
I saw him perform this just last Wednesday at the Hollywood Bowl! He still sings beautifully and the whole show was the best concert I've ever been to. Plus, we snuck in by climbing up the hill which made the evening even funner!
my dad has the band on the run original lp which i dont allow him to listen to because i listen to it too much, this is my favourite track from the album. this or nineteen hundred and eighty five
Got Band on the Run for Christmas '75 when I was 12! This was my fave track. Knew every track by heart. It's true..he has written some very good tracks..amongst some not so good. This one was for a girl I had a crush on! An older woman..she was 18!
I was there man.. I shit u not! and yes there was the smell of Columbian Gold joints EVERYWHERE! That was typical for the time be it the now imploded Kingdome or the Seattle Center Coliseum, the Paramount theater, or the Seattle Center Arena. Unlike today, Security didn't even bat an eye. There was always a visible haze/fog throughout the arenas.. Those were the best days of my life. Ahhh to be 16 again
i think venus & mars was and still is a incredibly creative album full of great music.I used to love this song back in the day when i "rolled 'em" but listening to it recently...i think that it is reminisent of lennons work(guitar-wise like 'yer blues')and a little 'shaved fish or 'hey jude' sounding(lyrically), or perhaphs that is just the over-lapping point of lennon and mccartneys geniuses. so be it.
I do agree, he feared them, only because they wrote all their songs, and Parker would not allow Elvis to write any....he had total control....The Beatles had control over all they did.....Paul is awesome!!

i too was at this show in my (terrible) then home town of Seattle. Good show, bad acoustics and i wish paul hadn't cleaned up "over America" so much. HE was great. the other band member's singing was NOT!
Screen feed. Real 1976 sound. No punched in Laurence Juber 1980 leads for the film. Now this is real deal Paul. Rockshow was so studio filled it came too clean. I need to get a pirate DVD of this whole thing.
latta4: Paul rarely played a rickenbacker bass. He usually played, and is known for playing the Hofner bass guitar. Paul actually started out as a guitar player, but switched to bass after they picked up George Harrison because someone had to play bass, and John refused.
John, for a short while, George, played Rick's. Usually, Epiphone Casino's. George - Gretsch.
I own several vintage 325's and stereo Rickenbacker 360's plus hand wired Vox amps. I love the sound, and the history behind them.
Yes, great song. It's not a mullet. It's a shag. Big difference. Mullets worn by trailor trash hillbillies in the 80's. Shags worn in the 70's by the coolest of hip people.
you have a valid point. Paul voice could be wish-washy as in when I'm 64, and uncle albert but his voice could also be soulful as songs like Hey Jude and Maybe I'm amazed. But to me, John had the best voice ever and no one could ever compare.ever.

It sounds like a song Lennon would do, cause he purposely used riffs and beats that Lennon commonly uses as a sort of tease at Lennon.
