Marvin's a wonderful talent: A national treasure! This is our national anthem, not a soul song!!! You've a beautiful voive. Sing it the way it was written!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's a tough one to call. Both Marvin and Whitney sang great. However Whitney pre-recorded it, yet it's still her voice. Marvin's obviously was smooth and relaxed that really aroused the crowd and was very unique. Everyone including the NBA All Stars were only talking about the anthem. Whitney's performance came at a time of war.
If this anthem by the late Marvin Gaye doesn't bring chills down your spine, you have no pulse; this is, hands down, the best rendition of the Star Spangled Banner ever presented live. No "ifs", "ands" or "buts" about it. AMEN!
I'm a musician and have heard the national anthem sung by various great singers but also agree hands down.....Marvin's version is the best I've ever heard. He brought such soul, class and a new feel as to how the song was to be presented, there will be people yet to come who will do there own version but none will ever top Marvin :-).
This is the the best rendition of the Star Spangled Banner that i have ever heard Marvvin Gaye made us all proud to be americans that nite. I would have gven anything to be in that arena that nite. To hear him sends shivers up and down my spine. What a waste of wonderful talent to be taken from us so early. May his music forever live on in history.
Marvin had the ladies screaming and shouting like he's singin' "Sexual Healing!" He put his own spin on this one!
