Utah beer is 3.2% by weight which is actually 4% by volume. That is only 0.2% less than most light beers and 1% less than most full beers. Basically if you have 6 budweisers in utah its the same amount as 5 budweisers in california. Not a huge difference. Thats why the laws are so pointless, they make no sense. Thank god Utah alcohol laws are slowly getting better.
The sad thing is, that kind of situation happens all the time in real life. They weren't just making crap up when they made the video. Utah REALLY IS that dumb.
It's clear that anyone poking fun at the "strange" Utah liquor laws has never lived anywhere outside of Utah.
For instance, many counties in GA do not allow the sale of alcohol on Sundays. In Mass. retail employees working on Sundays must be paid time-and-a-half. In several states a car can't be purchased on a Sunday. It's basically illegal to own a gun in New York, the 2nd Amendment notwithstanding.
You don't like the laws? Either get active locally, or get out of state. Whiners get nothing.
@soonergriff What's your point,? I don't care what the laws are outside of Utah, because I live here. And I'm not leaving. This video is about "getting active" dumbass.
I have lived in Utah all my life and I am NOT Mormon and yes our laws are the most ridiculous laws ever!!! And despite what they might say, yes the Mormon church does run the state. Thats obvious.
It's really fucked how people cannot see why letting arbitrary laws based off of religious beliefs be made into law is a bad thing. I actually love Salt Lake, as far as the land, the city, etc. I just hate how the religion here allows some of the most blatant abuse of political power on a state-level that I've ever seen. And the worst part? Most of the people are just smiling and nodding their heads as their rights get taken away! (Because they are rights they don't excercise)
Damn Mormons trying to stop my drinking! They don't allow refrigerating beers in liquor stores, which is why New Belgium and many other GOOD breweries refuse to ship to UT
The laws are made by a committee of 5 people, there has never been more than one non mormon (in other words, an actual consumer of alcohol) on the committee at any time.
@Ashezymail As far as I understand the curtain only applies to new restaurants that have that licence. The older restaurants that were built before the law are fine. But if they remodel they have to build the zion curtain.
hahaha oh my god! This is epic! nice job bud! Im drinking a 3.2 watered down beer right now Outside St. George, you should do one of a guy getting pulled over with some pot seeds within a Church zone lol (I got in big trouble for that as a teenager)
@aikepah If you go to A BAR, they will have a full bar right out front... if you go to a restaurant, they may have a bar, but it will not be stocked. They cannot pour alcohol in view of customers. If they choose to have a bar, and pour at the bar, they have to have a wall built around the bar so people cannot see it. Every single law in this video is 100% accurate at present time.
@Partyofinterest hey I'm not 100% sure on what exactly the laws are, but I'm pretty sure a lot of the crap in the video is old stuff that has been done away with or changed, but I'm not gonna name the bar just in case so they don't get in trouble for anything ;)
@Partyofinterest - the fact that you "don't believe" has absolutely no bearing on whether or not the statement is true. Based on your statement, it's clear that you've never *actually* stepped foot into a bar in Utah.
The Olive Gardens in Sugarhouse, Layton, Fashion Place Mall and Provo (of all places) have open bar service right out in the lobby for crying out loud. Educate yourself before putting yourself on blast like that.
Hilarious how he pronounces "can" as "kun" at least that is very Utah. It drives me up a wall worse than constant fingernail scratching on a chalkboard that virtually every vowel out of the mouth of many Utahns is pronounced wrong. Ugh, I actually like REAL accents, but it's not really an accent, go back to kindergarten.
I live in Utah everyone is so dramatic with our liquor laws. If you are a drinker you get creative with these laws. it really is not bad and yes it is grwat
It’s very obvious Utah is run by non drinking Mormons who influence Mormon Legislators to pass laws that will make non Mormons uncomfortable to live in Utah. In other words be in Utah- be Mormon - or be subjected to discriminating laws like this one as well as many other laws that target non-Mormon activities. Separation of church and state? I don’t think so
Ha dude I'm from Utah. Trust me there is NO issue getting drunk here. And I'm not 21 yet. They don't have the most intense laws ever, in fact they are pretty sloppy in my opinion. You don't have to work hard at all to get booze, you just have to be proactive :D
@Partyofinterest HighestRubris, not Hubris, and hey I've never had to deal with the private clubs or anything that ridiculous, just my personal experience. Plus we are only one of eighteen other alcohol control states. I will admit that people here are obviously hard on alcohol, and liquor licenses are damn near impossible to obtain. All I'm saying is on an individual basis, it is not that hard to get a drink/get drunk. Plus, I am under 21 and have never been carded so....
@Highestrubris You know a lot about liquor laws for being under 21. Also, you must have the face of an eighty year old because I'm 34 and get carded pretty much every time. If anything your argument is reason to loosen laws because they aren't effective.
@Highestrubris Additoinally, if you are operating outside of the laws, and not standing in the lines at the liquor stores that wind through the aisles and OUT OF THE DOOR during the holidays, or not dealing with the watery beer and high sin taxes, you have no business even talking about the liquor laws.
@Partyofinterest Good sir or madam, I assure you I have had to deal with the same lines out of the door and pay taxes like any other, you just deal with the cards you dealt. Including how old you look I suppose....
@Highestrubris funny because you began your comments saying that you were underage and never carded and that you thought the laws were sloppy. Thanks for proving my point.
I just moved to Utah from tennessee and I can say without a doubt that Utah is the crappiest state of the union and the reason why is because mormons are anti beer and basically anti-fun they are the enemy of fun. The mormons ruin otherwise a good state with their anti alcohol policies.
Awesome that the government is so worried about our liquor laws because "Churchislature" is idiotic... Never mind Salt Lake City's massive porn addiction.
That was plenty ridiculous, and they didn't even touch on forcing tourists to buy two-week private club memberships, ordering setups, and mixing your own super-stiff drinks from mini bottles.
@Reddpen85 They did away with the private clubs a couple of years ago, and I have never seen the mini bottles in the bars. Hell I haven't even seen them in the liquor stores. Why do you think I moved to Montana
The only problem with this is that it isn't ridiculous enough..
