  • 12 people missed the "Like" button.

  • absolutely love this! :) its music to my ears XD

  • This is one of those songs that, while a great song in and of itself, will always be more widely known for pro wrestling. I mean, really, how many people hear the theme from 2001 and REALLY think of the movie 2001?

  • inspired by Hartmann's Design - birth place of Christianity and Russian Church Music. lol i have a test on this next week

  • Nice,good luck for your next performances.You feel the "soul"of the music.Bravo!

  • this is amazing. I love this piece of music so much!!!

  • Awesome sounds!

  • I remember hearing this for my first time in 10th grade.... AMAZING piece. I've been mesmerized by it since.

  • And In This Corner, From Memphis, Tennessee Weighting in at 256 Pounds JERRY "THE KING" LAWLER!!!!!!

  • I wish I could see the post performance reaction of the orchestra, one can only imagine that they break out into celebratory applause if this is indeed the first time they played this as composer and musicians together.

  • Imagine is Mussorgsky had written this piece for the orchestra instead of the piano. Think about how much better it would be (and this is already so god damn awesome!) One of the lost opportunities in romantic music. Oh well, at least modern classical was there to pick up the slack.

  • @jakehr3 Actually this piece was orchestrated in the nineteenth century by Stokowski.

  • @harleysparrow222

No It was orchestrated by Ravel

  • This amazing. It is sucha powerful song. I am playing it in my bell choir and my director says he wants it to strong as if a king was walking in and you were playing. He told us to look it up.

  • heard many versions of it, this is one of the best!

  • It's so triumphant! This is the music that says, "No matter how tough the battle, how steep the casualties, good wins out in the end."

  • great classical piece & for many the theme of WWE hall of famer Jerry "the King" Lawler.

  • WoW the guy looks like harry potter waving a wond

  • @keithr1985 I agree with your praise of this performance. It's very good. These guys produce good sound at opposite ends of the volume range and with great precision. Gives me goosebumps.

  • DAMN! The final epic sound is MISSING!

  • Jerry Lawler yeah!!!!!!!!!

  • jerry lawler rules

  • i want this played at my funeral as they lead my coffin to the burial site

    regal sendoff

  • Makes our symphonic band look like a load of tools... we're doing this in high school.

  • @goobergallery You will get there with practice, don't give up.

  • So, this is one of the best performances of this song I have ever heard! The brass doesn't beat you up, and the accents don't stick out too much. I've heard versions that are hard to listen to, but this one is amazing! Excellent work !

  • What? no tubular bells?

  • @radiootoo Sorry about your ears, how long have you been deaf?

  • Jerry "The King" Lawler chose wisly when he used this as his Theme

  • @Tboysupreme yeah, and he's still using it. guess you can't go wrong.

  • The Moscow State Symphony is going to play this in Louisville Center For the Performing Arts Saturday Nov. 13th...do I have a ticket? Does a fish fart bubbles...:-)

  • @blagyvux,....are you MichaelFan!?

  • This is what inspired me to play music... heard it at the San Diego Symphony when I was about 10 or so. Never forgot it.

  • We perform this piece at one of our perfomances. AMAZING!!!

  • This is the most majestic thing I've ever heard.

  • This work by Mussorgsky means everything to me. When I was about 9 years old my father presented it to me and from then on I knew that music is what i want to have my whole life revolving around. This very piece expresses what music means to me. It's not able to express it with words, it's just the emotions that it "triggers".

What music is for me? It's LOVE!

    Have a wonderful day!

  • Michael Jackson - History :D

  • 8 people don't appreciate good music.

  • I made myself a chicken Kiev for dinner.. I played this when I pulled it out of the oven.

  • @PhotograV win.

  • @PhotograV i bet it was either burned or raw in the middle

    as chef ramsey would say

    get out and f off

  • @PhotograV

    congratulations.

  • @PhotograV How grand it must have been to place the chicken kiev on the table to such music.

  • Just magnificent.

  • I use this music for the video of my home! My favorite Classical music song! It is actually a part of 'Pictures From An Exhibition,' this one being called 'The Great Gate of Kiev.' It was a prize winning drawing, not an actual gate, but Google it!

  • das ist genial, einfach fantastisch.

Man kann die Musik absolut genießen!

  • Great performance. Pause at 4:33 was just right.

  • The 8 people who disliked this have never made an epic entrance in their entire life.

  • awesome. reminds me of Animusic's Cathedral Pictures

  • @flipboitj Actually, Animusic's "Pictures at a Cathedral" incorporated 3 pieces from Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition" including "Promenade", "Baba Yaga", "The Great Gate at Kiev". So, yeah, it should remind you of it XDDD Except this is the original.

  • at 6:00 a rare disorder. hard to follow the conductor.

  • I love that piece, but the conductor looked like he was having a seizure. I never understood why they were always so overly handsy. I prefer to conduct with a simple motion, so as not to confuse the performers. But to each his own.

  • a beautiful wall of sound

  • WOW. Brilliant!

  • This is great!

  • u cut off the last note? y? thanks for putting it online though, conductor wants to go slowere at the end than the orch doesd, he does well the force them into stayin with him.

    tiff

  • Lame just string

  • great song I played ti an E flat alto sax

  • One of my favorite orchestral pieces actually. Really captures the true spirit of Russian Romanticism and music in general. The part right after the intro should have a few extra "p"s thrown in there, but otherwise this is an excellent rendition and probably the best on Youtube at least.

  • KING HARLEY RACE!

  • @jasonvietri You took the words out of my mouth!! :)

  • @jasonvietri Now that's old shool. I love it. Along with KING HAKU!

  • @KingKong317 Don't forget King Harley Race from back in 1987.

  • anyone know where i can get an mp3 version of this piece?

  • i 1st heard this piece of music on an old commodore amiga 1200 game called frontier :elite 2. superb

  • @twistedsistaqteu

    It is superb still

  • @johnjohn302,hell no u not da only one, without him and harley race i would hav not known shit about dis song,i like it tho lol!

  • love the bass

  • Am I the only one who thinks of Jerry "The King" Lawlor when this majestrial piece of music is played?

  • Yes totally everytime i hear this i think if one of the greatest wrestlers of all time

  • @johnjohn302

haha, i totally do think about Jerrry "The King" Lawlor because i have memory of this piece from his entrances!

  • @johnjohn302 no youre not

  • Great piece of classic and great performans!

Best wishes to your friend! :)

  • how lovely. is that really the first time. wonderful.

  • I felt like dying after the clip ended prematurely. Damn!

  • Check out Dudamel doing the same piece at Salzberg. Its a totally different experiece.

  • Not bad at all. This chamber (whomever they may be) walked through the gate pretty much intact. It is not a piece for beginners, especially the close.

    Thanks for sharing :)

  • music for the sake of melodoius sound without the history, story, politics is stupid - when one considers the politics of Russian hegemony Musso obviously supported renders this music to the category of SICK!!!!!

  • @prabbit68 So what you're saying is that we should judge music based on historical and political significance instead of its actual sound? That good music isn't good because it caresses the ear or soothes the soul, but rather because the composer shared you political views? wut.

  • @Ishi8878 not exactly - we should judge music based on actual sound, emotions, historic and its political significance - after all these have DIRECT BEARING on the final composition

  • I don't comprehend how not changing the spelling is arrogant, ignorant possibly. I do, however, find it rude that you are being so condescending over an accident. I guarentee you the misspelling was unintentional and was not meant to be offensive.

  • @Catholicgirl420 okay ignorant - you sound cute

  • I don't see how this can be a first run-through. It's just too good.

  • haha it is really good but professionally if the musicians and the conductor did their own part in the creative process (that is to do their 'homework' and learn the music before hand) then you can definitely get this! even at the end there's a mess up and this tempo is a TAD slow but nothing disgraceful! : )

  • @jirishanca its a first run through not a first time to play it but still sounds really cool

  • @jirishanca The conductor's doing a very nice job, but the level of preparation is largely owing to the fact that any professional orchestra is expected to bring their A-game to the first rehearsal; time is too short to waste.

  • @jirishanca agreed!

  • I agree with the guys under me arguing how to spell Kyiv - this is the correct and official name as written in article 20 Ukraine's Constitution - official English translation. Ukraine Govy use Kyiv. I think it arrogant to continue the misspelling

  • is it arrogance? Kyiv is more likely to be mispronounced and sound worse. In most languages, you have the spelling reflect the pronunciation and not the transliteration

  • @Mattteus phonetically Kyiv is correct

  • yes but people are more likely to mispronounce that

  • I hate the way the vid ends... breaks my heart! </3

  • this piece is brilliant, and all you guys under me, quit arguing as to how to spell kiev.

enjoy the music and keep your squabbling away

  • the music is great - however the name should be changed to Kyiv - Kiev technically does not exist

  • 3:32-3:48

    absolutely beautiful!

  • Cossakfreedom - brothers do not invade Ukraine and kill millions of innocent Ukrainians - and remember Holodomor? - Ukraine is recovering from the destruction of Russian and soviet occupation - help Ukraine rebuild its true culture as according to its constitution - start by calling the capital by its official Ukrainian name translated to English - Kyiv - as written on all the signs in Kyiv

  • I've got a good idea - why don't you stop the clip just before the last note?

  • Comment removed

  • yes it is.... The Great Gate Of Kiev -_- im pretty sure they are going in 2 instead of 4

  • United Snakes of America.. Hey I like that.. Hey I appologize for my rude remarks.. I shall recant my statements.. it seems that I have ignorance towards ukrine, may we start off on a new foot

  • Mussorgsky is great

  • unfortunately every time I hear this piece I assocoate it with the enormous damage and killings carried out by the Russians on the innocent Ukrainian people and I am glad the correct name Kyiv is once again posted on all signs in Kyiv in independent Ukraine

  • Dude will you stop with that Free Ukraine Shit.. You had that posed in another video.. Let live and let go dude. Stop annoying us with How the russians damaged Ukraine and the Ukrainians. Read The Scripture in Isaiah where it says Man will dominate man to his injuiry, and Isa 2:4 and please i'm not trying to be mean. but .. we heard you already

  • that "free Ukraine shit" as you put it is ultimately far more important to Ukraine than your pitiful whims and murmurs about a crappy piece of music written by an alcoholic womaniser

  • How Sad you are Hetmans1, how sad you are. That is why in 1986 Chernobyl had a nuclear meltdown. I feel bad for those who suffered.. but maybe Ukraine is a sinful country.. Just like russia is. Bunch of Megalomanic people who are full of occult worship

  • How little you really know - the Ukraine I visited and lived in for many years is Orthodox and far more religious than anything in the west. Chernobyl is another blight perpetrated by Commie inept leadership headed by criminals in Moscow. The level of occult worship in Ukraine is practically non existant compared to United Snakes of America for instance

  • You know why they call him Isiah? Coz one eye's higher than the other.

  • Screw your scripture shit

  • You mean Kiev?

  • No Kyiv is the correct spelling of the capital of Ukraine - its on all the signs throughout Ukraine and Kyiv. Kiev is the Russian spelling since this piece was written when Ukraine was under Russian occupation/repression

  • then what about chicken kiev? should id be called chicked kyiv? :P

  • technically yes but Chicken Kiev as was Great Gate of Kiev came into existance when Kyiv was under Russian occupation hence the Russiafied name of Kiev - but the correct ancient and modern spelling is Kyiv transliteraion of Ukrainian Київ NOT russian Kueb

  • Great recording...this is a favorite of mine excellent performance and thanks for the great audio....it is reminiscent of the great Decca label recordings. I feel like I'm there in midst of it, Superb!

  • This is the most inspiring Great Gate of Kyiv I have heard for years and years and years. It's really good. No one has said who the orchestra and conductor or. Wow, first reading, I'm so pleased it was recorded.

  • Anybody got this without the ending cut off?

  • Jerry Lawler rendiction.

  • playin this song on June 2

    with my middle school band!!

    Clarinets rock!!!

  • bloody fantastic this rendition

  • doing this next week in my concert :D im only trumpet though haha :P

  • my school band id playing this i hope i get the baritone solo. WOSMS BAND.

  • the tuba is out off pitch

  • lol

  • I heard that. It drives me crazy. The trumpet sounded off at times too.

  • Is it me or does the rehearsal space look quite small..

  • He's got the right idea. I wish I was able to conduct an orchestra, I was stuck with a concert band....still pretty cool though.

  • my school band is doing this and Supercalifragilisticexpialidoucious for our parade of bands, although it's not really a parade :( )

  • What a fantastic group.

  • aka stands for "also known as" cheetopuff97. Next time you post something on the internet for the entire global community to see and ridicule, check your facts. Thank you and that is all.

  • not to b rude or mean but aka stands for as known as and u dont use it at that type of way like if im saying my nam is chelsea aka(as known as) cheetopuff97

just to let yall know my name aint chelsea i was just an example!!!

  • get out of here. nobody cares.

  • cool...11 is also about the bpm at which the song is played...aka its not that tough, my little clarinet virtuoso!

  • hyperbole

  • I bet it sounds good though. A clarinet is a clarinet. A clarinet player is a clarinet player. I'd rather hear this than Flight of The Bumble Bee. In fact I mostly disliked most of those technical show off pieces.

  • Eres un puto repelente!

  • whoopdee

try composition and then we'll see if anyone gives a shit.

  • good but not alwats together, espicially during the molto ritards

  • My band (The Jacksonville State University Marching Southerners) incorporated this composition into the ending of the final song of our show, specifically from 5:50 on.

  • speed insnt everything

  • One of the ways how this genial Mussorgsky's composition should be conducted and played, IMHO. Very nice version, congratulations!

  • examples: Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, William Grant Still.. Don't even get started down this path. You are trying to mix cuture with a genre of music. The majority of Mozart's works are not played because everyone gravitates towards the few 'major' pieces every time, but that doesn't diminish him. What of the reverse.. who are the white composers that have written great pieces of jazz music that still endure... same problem. Very few because of culture they were raised in.

  • Why would you to use such beautiful music to insult others? You should respect it more than that. Neither rap or classical are exclusive to one ethnicity or gender. I learned that in college. Good day.

  • This is by far the best version of the piece on youtube.

By the way, is this the Ravel Orchestration?

  • Really? No way. The acoustics of the room or maybe the recording device or something ruins the audio quality. I would love to say this is a good performance but the sound quality doesn't allow for a proper evaluation.

  • i wish i could have seen the rest of the instruments but it was still good

  • it is great

  • Messed a bit in the ending, but it was such a beautiful reading.

    5/5

  • Thank you... This music and clip is great..

  • Ok- I love this. Great addition to the internet world, a well spent 6 minutes in my opinion.

  • Sry mistype

  • Bla bla your politics, This and the 1812 overture were they greatest songs of thier time.

  • It is! I am playing it now.

  • That is incredibly fun to play on violin.

  • Wow, this is fantastic...I had the oppertunity to play this with my high school band, so there were no strings, but it was still fun. I am really impressed by the sound quality, it is top of the line...and hats off to this group, they did a marvelous job

  • The correct English spelling is Kyiv - you should find that all informed and new sources are slowly adopting the correct spelling correcting the Grammatically incorrect Russian name Kiev which was enforced in Ukraine during soviet repression. Perhaps you can inform some of the tourist agencies as well.

  • Kyiv comes from the name of the city in Ukrainian, while Kiev from Russian. According to wikipedia, both spellings are correct in English.

  • No the correct english-ukrainian transliteration is Kyiv - whereas Kiev existed while under communist rule up to 1989- this is a fact jack

  • No offence, I respect your right to call your city as you want, but I will stick to Kiev as I have my reasons;)

  • JonVon you are dead wrong! Kiev = russian whereas the correct English transliteration of the gepgraphic Ukrainian city КИЇВ is Kyiv - russian go home - we do not want your slimy presence in Ukraine and take your inferior dicky language with you

  • Jon Von what you have written is absolute rubbish - and it reflects Russian arrogance and ignorance - Russia go home - besides Russian language is not popular anywhere on global basis - it is still spoken by Ukrainians who are a product of Russian Communist indoctrination

  • you are an idiot JonVon

  • Wenn Du Deutsch könntest, müßtest Du einsehen, daß man ein 'ie' in anderen Sprachen nicht gleich interpretieren kann, Du Depp!

  • what were they?

  • Hermosisimo!

  • JERRY THE KING LAWLER!

  • the part right before the 3 minute mark..i think should be pulsating and restrained just as this conductor did it..and slow....very, very nice..as for the rest...sounded good to me!

  • They need to change the camara view/angle

    competent but more passion

  • This is not Bydlo, this is the Great Gate at Kiev, the final part of this piece. Good job, the conductor looks very assured and elegant. The orchestra sounds very good, although the very last notes probably needed a little more passion, they sound too metered.

  • What group is playing this?

  • That's Dragonforce.Don't you see Herman Li playing his endless solos?

  • funny. but no seriously do we know which this is?
