Going to see her perform in London this tues, if anyone wants to see this brilliant woman in person come to the Leicester Square Theatre, 19th April, 7.30pm. Feet do your stuff!
Fran was the most exquisite and exquisitely beautiful girl. She was also shiningly brilliant and wildly talented. She was very sweet to people and had a calm center. Her life actually was tumultuous and I often wondered if she would or could survive.
Well, she did and now she's a living legend as well a survivor. And she still has an enormous heart obviously. She is a treasure.
All I ever knew of Fran was her lyrics for "Poems to Eat," which I had only heard performed by John Simon on the album "Journey," and initially thought was his song. It's a fantastic recording, as is this video. As, obviously, is she.
I never think of St. Louis, contemporary St. Louis, as having extant legends. Fran is one of those who have made me think I've been very wrong. Here's to Fran and her place in jazz in St. Louis.
This is one of the very best sleepless nights of my life! I recall the song, "Ballad of the Sad Young Men."
She is wonderful!

It brought back a glimmer of the Crystal Palace at Gaslight Square.
