I wonder if he ever played a joke on his drum tech and gave him the wrong address for a clinic and then call him to say, "No, you set up at the wrong place. I need you here in an hour!"
if you can get out to see a drum clinic by him do WHATEVER it takes to get in to see it. i saw three of them when he first started doing them and it was 200 drummers sitting in the audience feeling seriously inadequate. but I bow to his comedy and his serious command of the drumset.
Hasn't "The Trap" become larger in resent years? Someone like Bozzio you know is always keeping a keen eye out from some new drum(s) to add to his collection.
Come on guys..! He's playing an ostinato that includes 2 bass drums with his right foot and a bass and hi-hat with his left foot. and then playing a melody on top over that. As musical as it is this is also as technical as it gets. what kind of polyrythmscan you play? And if you don't think he can repeat this(?) well, do a search for "Black Page"

if i can afford a really nice drum set, can i be famous too?
i doubt he has even memorized the sounds it makes. its like a kid discovering new things on his toy, then playing it off like he meant to do that the whole time
@inches2669 If you could compose enough drum solos that people'd be willing to shell out $20+ just to watch you recreate live for 2 hours at a time, THEN you could be famous.
Barring that, you're just an anonymous douche who'll be more famous for BEING a douche than anything else.
Once again, Bozzio never fails to amaze me! He is one of the few that applies a melodic approach (1/2 the kit is chromatically tuned, the other, diatonic)
For the haters, he's played with Zappa, Vai (who also played with Frank), some of Dream Theater's mates (Explorer's club), Jeff Beck, I could go on...
We could all discuss the technic and who is better than who in every music video in youtube, but that is pointless. The amazing thing about Bozzio is that he's having a conversation. Like many other great musicians, it has personality. We either like what they are saying or we don't. When people treat music like a sport, that's when is gets vulgar. It's just my viewpoint.
i found bozzio not 20 minutes ago and i cant keep my eyes from the screen, my ears out of the head phones, and my mouth hasn't closed ever since my jaw dropped.
Bozzio is absolutely amazing! One of the most colorful drummers to ever play. Theres no other option but to be great when you go to the school of FRANK ZAPPA.
@Thomasgipsy Exactly dude!! That's basically what I've been saying on some of the other Bozzio vids where people type some stupid shit that just don't have a freaking clue about what's going on with this guy.
im a fan of terry bozzio, but i really didnt understand the first 50 seconds of this video, it kinda jus looked like wot my guitarist wud do if let loose on my kit.
He has fantastically interesting sounding arrangement of china cymbals. I can't say I've heard anything like them, and I've certainly not heard them played in such a way as this. But then again... This is Bozzio, no one plays like him.
@VladSpirit Hopefully someday you will understand what is going on here!! Top of the food chain here Pal!! Bozzio is incredible!! He could run through his bag at 150bpm to impress you, but, he would rather tell stories and create art!! I dont think you realize how hard this is to do!! Better listen again and try to learn something,so you dont sound foolish to people who know whats up!!
@bobbystockerdrums I HATE when people slag Terry. And you're right Bobby. Most people who do so have NO clue about music. They may be able to play drums but understand little about phrasing, dynamics, themes and making music.
@bobbystockerdrums me2! Been a fan since I first him in '83 on a Modern Drummer sound disc. Missing Persons, UK, Zappa, Brecker Bros, Jeff Beck and on........I LOVE it when people question his playing yet his resume alone speaks VOLUMES about how diverse and great of a musician (not just a drummer) he is. It's very easy to put some one down who goes against the grain. Even easier when most of those putting him down will never go beyond their mommy's basement!!! LOL Jealousy is VERY powerful!!
Some record executives want to push crap music around everywhere, Bozzio is anti-crap and does the RIGHT thing and kids want to tear him apart and say fools like Travis are better.
Can you or anyone else believe that, that the record industry has that much push as to what sounds good and what does not, deciding for people in advance?
@PositivelyBored Unfortunately, that's been happening for decades now. Probably since the late 70's. On one hand, I understand that it IS a business and that they do need to make money to pay their staffs, rent, grow their business, etc. On the other hand, NOTHING is done to encourage creativity or the advancing of the music whatever form or style it may be. I still think that those who are talented enough AND driven and resourceful will get their stuff heard.
@DustinDrums1 Thanks Bro!! I am a huge fan of Terrys!! He gives me alot of inspiration to keep practicing every day,and not be afraid to do your own thing!! Hope all is well!!
@bobbystockerdrums i'd say he is best at multi-tasking(cause it is NOT your normal kind of 4 way control...he can play 4 different melodies together, and make the most complex back beats along with it... so he has a harmonic ear and perfect attention to tone) but i'd say that vinnie colaiuta is the best drummer only because he is a master grooving and improvising in ANY signature, and he can record a composed piece first try almost always...mark guiliana is another beast!
Feels like a voice is whispering the hole time over the beat, mysterious ^^
