If you think about the symbolism of love despite desolation, it makes perfect sense. "I can see a lot of life in you" when the whole world around you is dead, dying, falling apart. I got married in the dead of Winter as well because we wanted an anniversary in Winter, so we had something to look forward to during the season of desolation you speak of. We will celebrate it at that time for the rest of our lives together. It's our fight against the darkness.
