  • But ...do adults actually follow fashion or are clothes just so badly made that they have holes within a few months anyway?

Course I just wear them holes and all but I think the desire not to be "unkempt" is more powerful than the desire to be fashionable. Even I find when I want a white shirt for some reason (last time was a few years ago) I need to buy one because a shirt will be grey if I wash it even once.

  • Let's not just be good consumers but, empowered consumers!

  • This video is full of great advice. The government should force TV stations to air this every hour or so as a public service announcement.

  • Notice that the ones complaining are doing so on evil corporation made products. How many people will live in domes with solar heat dipping locally grown organic tea (since coffee is an import that wastes sooo much fosil fuel)?

  • That video actually made me want a McDonalds.

  • begin being bought and sold as the fuel that feeds poison food to us and creates the need for medicine that kills us.

  • Bull shit all of it. This guy is clearly mental.

  • @nkavmail can u explain how you came up with that?

  • Buy things you don't need with money you don't have for people you don't like.

    Make sure they are made-in-China

  • I only buy gadgets carefully chosen by the functions and my actual needs, not the brand at all.

All of my clothes are chosen by it's quality AND my sense of beauty, price counts aswell, i buy cheaper ones ;)

But good video, also the media propagates only perfect physical people, that leads to mass unhappiness, that is fake-fulfilled with products.

    Problem?

  • CAPS LOCK!

  • Nothing wrong with spending. But we have a duty to not be wasteful, and to spend money on things which deserve to be bought. There's just so much junk being pushed these days.

  • It's soo hypnotizing... \((0_0))/

  • I noticed that too, where we go around advertising brands for free! Just wonder where we draw the line? I don't like all those huge brand names around peoples names to remind them about what is in. What to do about bands and music? I do enjoy wearing my Iron Maiden shirts, but besides that wear no cloths with noticeable brand names.

  • Cock sucking pseudo-intellectual rubbish. The people who complain about consumerism and capitalism are usually those who aren't "well off", then they blame their problems on the system, rather than themselves.

  • @strydom666 Now pretend for a moment that these people were "well off", would it make any difference? The point being made is important and needs to be dealt with somehow.

  • I worked as a sales attendant for three years, There´re more people addicted to fashion than anything else. i didn´t get used to seeing teenagers purchasing sun glasses worth 200 €.

  • Now they are out of idea..so look at now...they are just repeting old era fashion of

60's, 70's, 80's 90's......to make you want to buy something looks new.

I use recycled item and just wear whatever I like to wear. I even find many clothes with still price tag attached in my apartment trash room. Just because of one season off. They are famous brand name clothing, shoes, etc...it is so sad ..but good for me.

  • Yes - we've indeed accepted ourselves as happiness machines, where we believe our perceived 'happiness' comes from 'stuff & things' - so we stuff ourselves full of stuff not realizing that a consumer will NEVER be satiated, no matter what!

We all do this in some 'form or fashion' thus it's through realizing this part of ourselves that will enable us SEE, therefore STOP the continuation of such blindness, where we fail to take into consideration ALL the beings that are affected by our gluttony.

  • Perfect depiction here on how brainwashed we've allowed ourselves to become - consumption means to use something up until there's nothing left on it - it is time to stop and start living differently. It is possible with an Equal Money System

  • I prefer to find my worth in the Lord, not the sum total of my material crap (which is considerable). I guess that's the secret to life. If you want to be able to get something, you have to not care about obtaining it? *shrugs* I guess that's why you'll never see a Hearse pulling a U-haul. You can't take it with you when you're gone.

  • it seems they are brainwashing us... weird movie. It's important to consume to bust the economy but not for the reasons referred here... use credit card if you run out of money?!? is debt the way for consumerism?

  • I saw this one on my english class !

  • 28 are good consumers XD

  • im not a good consumer

  • dude they live play that double standard of assumption play off also...prove other wise instead of running in circles in a conversation.

  • This video is beyond the TRUTH!

    Good work!

  • lol. you're worth it!

  • Since I stopped watching TV and buy magazines..about 3 years now or so, I consume far less...its astonishing the way marketing can brain wash you!!

  • Zeitgeist: Moving Forward

    zeitgeistmovie . com

  • Sheep people living sheep lives. Soulless empty materialistic mechanical beings. I am losing my patience with these sheep people making my life worse as a result of their ignorance and stupidity. Perhaps a mass execution is in order? We should lure all these people onto cruise ships with promises of free liquor and a trip to Hawaii to visit the worlds largest mall built in the center of Mauna Loa.

    Who's with me?

  • @Badhabitsjay Read the blurb to this video carefully - it was shot to promote BUY NOTHING DAY.

  • @bonfireofthebrands It also promotes themselves though, which in turn promotes their products, which is entirely hypocritical.

If their were any real meaning or belief behind the video then it would be on it's own account and completely isolated from promoting any products or brands. Particularly their own brand, "bonfire of the brands".

    It's plain ridiculous.

  • Shut up and adjust to your corporate slave state. Resistance is futile. Now get in line, worker drone.

  • @bonfireofthebrands says nothing about buy nothing day in blurb.

on website does mention a book though.

    sounds like commentor is correct.

  • @bonfireofthebrands Still, if the authors ate their own dogfood, this book should be a free download with a copyleft license.

  • @Badhabits

what an absolutely ignorant person you are... at least the video is advocating something worthwhile... rahter than marketing something like scientificall proven anti-aging creams.... or something frivolous, vain or superficial, which are words which i should label you with.

  • @meli13721 "frivolous,vain or superficial"

You call me ignorant yet make absolute assumptions of me like that? Come on sunshine, don't make yourself look too stupid.

One can not utilise something like the internet, a commodity you absolutely have to be a consumer to have, while making vague and generalised statements against consumption.

You sound like a zeitgeist conspiracy moron.

When did I suggest we all go out and buy millions of shoes?? Don't place words I haven't said into my mouth.

  • @Badhabitsjay There is no other product in the world that is less consumed then the internet dude ... everyone is actually puking the internet out . And no there is no internet from nike or mcdonalds either.

  • @meli13721 All I have done is argue that this video and it's creator come from a hypocritical standpoint, I haven't, not ONCE, argued against the actual points made in the video. Before lavishing your hate on someone I suggest you read their comments next time.

You can't throw around the word ignorant while demonstrating your own ignorance so fucking clearly.

  • @Badhabits

too ignorant for words... yes why dont we all just go crazy and have a million pairs of shoes when our negihbours are dying of poverty... you ignorance is a crime...... almost murderous... you stupid stupid vain superficial person

  • @Badhabitsjay so you admit that they are right but feel resentment because you do all this stuff in this video and refuse to buy anything that proves your inadequateness.Hmmmm and we have a consuming WINNER!

  • @slickdickdafoola My comment: Fact. Fact. Fact

    Your comment: Assumption. Assumption. Assumption

    Aslo, lrn 2 spek engrish.

  • @Badhabitsjay so you admit that they are right but feel resentment because you do all this stuff in this video and refuse to buy anything that proves your inadequateness.Hmmmm and we have a consuming WINNER! Dude your an alien from they live

  • @Badhabitsjay "don't think you're being brainwashed, you're not" .. now that's a contradicting statement in itself.

  • really good! so that must be why most people are not too bright, not too curious, not too educated, not too interesting, usually lacking of culture, creativity, values and a true love for life, others and themselves! people are sad little consuming clones!

  • @NAIVADA Maybe you're just a sad little fucking misantrophist.

  • brilliant

  • JOIN THEZEITGEISTMOVEMENT AND THEVENUSPROJECT. Read the FAQ's & listen to the many videos on these sites. We CAN move beyond politics, poverty & war and become free of being debt slaves.

Love to all - Mamma D

  • I have never seen propaganda in such a pure form. It is impressive. Stupid, but impressive.

  • @T3ckno93 It is obviously satirical dude...

  • @T3ckno93 What is stupid? The behavior that is being represented? Don t you think that the behavior being satirized is prevalent? I don t buy into any particular movement or politics but its obvious to me that the capitalist system relies on people buying shit they don t need.

  • ultimately this is propaganda at its greatest form of function. just read other comments to compare.

  • borrowing money is more encouraged than this video proposes...well in america anyway

  • like fcuk....

  • WORK, BUY, CONSUME, DIE

  • anyone interested in moving beyond the capitalist system please look into The Venus Project and 'Zeitgeist Addendum' film.

  • @FloydManFloyd Problem is, they offer nothing but yet another system of control...

  • @dervishmadwhirler However a fully realised resource based economy is designed to be the freest possible society, people 'control' themselves because they have unlimited access to education. An educated person knows the dynamic of society and therefore realises that selflessness benefits the individual infinitely more than selfishness. sorry for the long reply.

  • @dervishmadwhirler The transition from monetary to resource based economy will likely look a lot like fascism but personally i have no problem with fascism under rule of a philosophical elite, imo when fascism occurs under rule of self interested capitalists, like what is occurring in the western developed world at the moment, that's when ur in the shit.

  • @dervishmadwhirler What else is there? Jacque always goes on about how it's not a perfect system just much better than what we have. We probably won't see anything like it in the near future but on prejudice it's the 'sanest' next step for humanity. I don't know what you're view of Venus Project is but i know a lot of people think it's fascism.

  • @FloydManFloyd I think it's fascism, technocracy, communism, whatever you want to call it.

A control system, based upon technolgy, prescribing the way people are supposed to live; forcing people to participate,

My own ideas are much more drastic. My idea is to stop seeing people as the only thing in the world. Stop seeing Nature as a resource. Stop agriculture, technolgy and governmental control.

In Natural life, everything we possibly need is provided in exactly those quantities needed...

  • @dervishmadwhirler ...we need to stop disrupting Nature for our needs.

A system based upon using and distributing Natural resouces is bound to be a finite one.

Nature itself gives us all 'technolgy' we need to survive on Earth and die off at the necessary rate. The only way to sustain an ever larger population is by control and oppression. Just read 'Island, by huxley, or '1984' by Orwell, or watch the movie 'THX 1138' if you want to know what the VP would look like and how it would function.

  • @dervishmadwhirler People ought to just take in their place in Nature as not-very-important beings. Which we are; for the planet. The way we live now, we are the sinlge worst influence on the planet and the VP would not change that.

And, just seeing the godawful buildings and gadgets Jaques Fresco designed, I would rather die than live in a world like that. We are logically already going toward a similar state; central control and distribution of resources to those who submit to control..

  • @dervishmadwhirler I have never read 'island' but 1984 was written about a society which still used, indirectly, money and war as control and i'm fairly sure island was largely the same. that is not the venus project.

  • @FloydManFloyd You have never READ "island" but....are you sure that "island was Largely the same"? Wow, that sounds like something that a 40´s German Nazi would say behind a fire...

"Island? jus another 1984...burn it!" (Yep, "island" was plucibited in 1962...)

"Island" is totally different from "1984", in fact, "1984" is the perfect dystopia, and "island" is the perfect utopia..

Please, read "island"... i know, consume "a book", but...a book that worth it.

    (And i will learn english)

  • @thepeiuan lol after reading a bit about it on wiki it seems very intriguing and i'll definitely check it out. funny enough he says if he was able to write the book again he would 'offer the savage a third option' (whatever that means) then goes on to describe a society which actually sounds vaguely like a resource based economy. 'nazi would say behind a fire' lool :)

  • @FloydManFloyd what can i say? i see too much Family guy...xD

i hope you enjoy "island". "They" based their society in spiritually aspects, but without the "look away" of the New Age about the Science...The word would be "Buddhism".

"They" (is complicated because they aren´t sheeps, each individual follow his own path; so a few..) use Moksha (and others not), an entheogen.

Best education system, best use of recourses,...

But things go worst when "others" discover that "they" "have" Oil...

  • @dervishmadwhirler (because we could start to scientifically benefit our environment as opposed to take from it) Do u agree that as an organism, without technology, we are bound by the necessity of hunting for food and engaging in other fundamental human tasks? TVP is just, as it were, a way to more efficiently carry out those tasks. would it not be more liberating and environmentally less impacting, to develop technology to it's fullest?

  • @dervishmadwhirler unfortunately to transition into such a society people need to change their values from self interest (supported by current environment) to being generally well educated which, when you abolish money/scarcity, produces a person beneficial to society and therefore themselves. that will involve effective fascism. a fully realised resource based economy will be the freest and most environmentally friendly society

  • @dervishmadwhirler so do u believe, in a way, that we were created to exist on this earth as we are and that human advances in methods of exploiting earthly resources only distort the relationship between the human and the earth? What I believe is that if you abolished money and gave people unlimited access to education, that group of people will take the 'sanest' measures to preserve themselves and therefore their environment, that is what TVP is, not 'prescribing...'

  • Relative deprivation: No matter how much you have someone else has something that you want. You just need another fifty bucks on every pay check then you would be happy.

  • @Slavestorms Why do you want to have that thing? Does having that thing make you happy?

  • Just FUCK IT ALL! if you see a "Good Cosumer"...immediatly link him/her this vid...looök what it does! 65%-of it will change 30% will stay the same after a bad night and the last 5% will stop to think it out and after a week they choose their sides or slowly start to not be a good consumer...I say...the ones who stay the same have to be reeducated in groups not separately then they will recognise whats done is BAD FOR ALL!

  • DONT THINK! CONSUME!!!

  • So good!! Only the Brits could do such a tongue in cheek video with a great message. I'm so proud to be the daughter of an English woman right now. :)

  • Eshhhh.....city folk.

  • WOW!! borrow money so you don't fall behind ... speechless ...

    FUCK FASHION

  • This is the most wonderful system ever devised, nothing can be better! Consumerism is perfectly sustainable! Don't be fooled by this propaganda! Go back and enjoy your shopping experience!

  • @VOLightPortal Omg yeah lets spend money we dont have on useless shit we dont need some slave child in china made.

You know why things like the holocaust happen? Because the world is full of "good consumers"

  • It's capitalism at it's best. =)

  • @pavilionking06 Capitalism at it is best?. No, Capitalism at ITS best is when there is no force exerted used to prevent voluntary exchanged between two parties.

  • @pavilionking06 Capitalism at it is best?. No, Capitalism at ITS best is when there is no force exerted used to prevent voluntary exchanged between two parties.

  • Greed.

  • I feel a slight resemblance to Orwell's 1984 novel

  • @drberecz is that because you recognize this

    as complete bullskit and propaganda.?

  • It is a damaging ad. Full of false reasoning!!!!!

  • @habte21

Depends on who is reading it. They forgot to tell us that is also make more garbage for the third world... because we know that the third world needs thinks to fill out their country sites... and get the children busy...

  • live consume shit and die

  • You dont have to be a communist or anything to agree with this. I'm a capitalist, but the way the system works now is fucked up

  • They call you a consumer, because you consume, but you were indoctrinated and brainwashed to become their consumer. Your kids are their future consumers.

Do you like to be called a consumer or do you want to be called a citizen? It's up to you!

  • Stop consuming, watching tv/radio/internet all the time and become more "here now".

  • If I roll my eyes any harder at this video my eyes are going to fall out of my head. Is this really what socialists are most offended by?

  • Consume, but consume the right things.

  • CONSUME! Chanel! Nike! Coca Cola! BRAIIIINS!!!!!!

  • Holy shit,fuckin' brain wash.

  • Yeaaah they've got Banksy's book! :D

  • Great video!

  • I'm suprised they didn't add pre-recroded laughter to the video.

  • I laughed throughout!

  • its brain wash...

  • Fantastic video, wake up people !

  • i love consumers cause i sell stuff :)

  • this is deep. great work

  • holy shit this is creepy

  • this makes a lot of sence we must keep our economy so let us be a good consumers lads :)

  • are you being serious?

  • @imthiskid246 you kiddin? It's OBVIOUSLY a critic to consumism

  • yeah i was responding to some idiot who didn't "get" it, but youtube fucked up.

i wasn't actually asking if they meant to do that.

    you get what im sayin?

  • Na całe szczęście 95% ludzi na świecie żyje w krajach gdzie konsumpcjonizm nie jest narodową religią.

  • The world is not dangerous because of those who do harm but because of those who look at it without doing anything. Albert Einstein.

  • good stuff!

  • "AS NICE AS OUR LUXURY LIFESTYLES ARE"

    What luxury lifestyles?

    "And what overconsumption?"

  • If you live in a western country and don't recognize luxury and over consumption you are being ignorant. If you buy more clothes than strictly necessary or throw away food after dinner that is over consumption. If you buy expensive brands of food and clothes that is luxury.

  • great job!

  • I noticed that once I stopped reading the gossip magazines, watching tv often, listening to commercials, and quit my job I don't have an urge or anxious feeling to spend. I'm able to walk into stores look around without feeling like crap b/c I didn't buy anything. It's a huge relief and it made me realize what I as a human being want from life not the store.

My soc class also made me see how much worse materialism has gotten in America.

  • @JessPk212

Great! I wish there were more people like you.

  • @JessPk212 I cant believe anyone actually lives like that, but congratulations. More people should realise this.

  • this reminds me of THX1338

  • this was hard to watch since my Intel CPU brand dum dum dum dum.... So I am now going to have to use Linux with an AMD cpu and view this at some other brand web site than youtube or facebook.

Too bad for the Mac users they love the Branding. LOL Hehe.

  • Sure it isn't the market who controlls the consumer? Its the companies which makes profit from the consumers, The consumer dont earn anything from this.

  • The consumer also should get the last say in the issue, but ultimately it doesn't. The marketing makes some new stupid stuff up and puts it in display to show its availability and then some stupid but filthy rich John Doe starts buying. Some other not so stupidly rich John Doe II sees that John Doe buys it and feels the urge to also buy it, to have the same things rich people like John Doe have ( if to compensate for something or not, it matters not. )

  • wow, the whole video went miles over your head

    challengeyourbeliefs.

  • i dont know who gave you the thumbs down? :S if any reader is smart enough will see this and get what they need from it, thats whats wrong with our country people are either too fucked up or just because they saw something they are complete activists and such, people have to start thinking for themselves, although i did like the video.

  • When I bought my computer I thought I would be happy. When just surfing the internet got boring I bought some computer games to make me happy. Well I bought so many games that I had to buy another hard drive. Well now when I am not home I miss my games. Do you think if I bought a laptop computer I would be happy?

  • It shows the consumist mentality right there. But I think that you did it on purpose. You wanted to simplify the consumist addiction.

Even if what you "told" is true. And if it is I am not judging. I also do it. I got stupidly addicted to downloading things I THINK I want and need but do not want nor need. I got a OCD case with downloads, so to "type".

  • you THINK they were "doing that on purpose?"

  • The other day I was at work and was in the break room the tv was on and cnn was covering the news story that the yankees won and are now going to the world series. They were in a models sporting good store. There was a guy who was wearing nothing but yankee clothing from head to toe. The reporter asked him what he was doing there if he already had all the clothing he was wearing. He said I need to get more stuff I need a few more of these shirts. He was like a zombie. Pathetic really.

  • Thanks for putting this together - it consolidates a lot of things bubbling under the surface. Big Up

  • this is great

PS: I'm in love with the girl of the video, I wanna consume her :P

  • So true on so many levels. I stopped watching tv, because this kind of programming is happening all the time- commercials, sit-coms, music videos, local news--- it's all saying go out there and buy stuff. You're nothing unless you have this and that and that and this. Not true. We are everything and we don't need to buy stuff to prove it.

  • Fuck the American ruling class and their perpetual cycle of consumerism. Capitalism is the soil in which GREED grows. It is time for a revolution. It is time we overthrow these corporate overlords! Workers unite! We have nothing to lose but our chains!

  • What are you Vladimir Lenin or something? I'd rather live in a country where you have the opportunity to become rich and be anything you want, where free enterprise allows shitty companies to drive themselves into the ground w/o a taxpayer-wasting government bailout than your "lets all share the wealth, no one will have any hope of making ANYTHING of themselves" Marx/Engels Obamanation.

  • i can tell many of you sheeple have been brain washed as a mother fucker!.

  • Self sufficiency is key to set us free from government and corporate reliance.

  • the problem with self sufficiency is that people would need to change too much and too many things that they are used to. And those kinds of changes take time and patience. Time that they do not have because, in a way ... is taken from them. And patience thay only rarely common people have. And you wouldn't want only some elite people ( so to speak ) to learn those things ... You want it to be common-- I guess.

  • Consume! Consume! Consume!

    Work, shop, sleep,

    Work, shop, sleep,

    Work, shop, sleep,

    Work, shop, sleep,

    Work, shop, Party!, sleep,

    Shop, party, sleep,

    shop, sleep.

    Week 2: ...

I will shop until the end of the world!

  • @Klimattomte It's funny how, at a time, I thought you were saying "Sheep"...Funny, huh? :P

  • Consumerism is the result of a society dependent on debt. Exploited by the few who gained control of the guns.

  • fuck

    you

    useless piece of shit

  • this is great but it's missing fundamental aspects like ;how industrial consumer civilization is going to destroy all life on earth---think catastrophic man-made climate change.

  • Totally had. "The more you consume, the more you can recycle!"

  • Nice one.

  • This video illustrates how society has become the twisted little sister!

  • You are not hungry,

    But Mac Donald's looks Yummy

Mr Mac Donald's needs your money

You need to be Hungry even if you are not -It's you Duty-

You don't even in need to cook your food as long as you can make a delivery -It's you Duty-

Forget about those who are dying from starvation , Drop one tear and blame the others

They don't need Potatoes as long as you need Lay's ® Chips -It's you Duty- b/c you are slave.

    HOOOOOOOH :-o

  • I LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT FUCKING LOVE IT.... NOw I WILL ALWAYS OCNSUME EVERYTHING I CAN :)

  • Good for the environment " The more you consume, the more you can recycle"

  • Yeah Banksy!

    Great vid.

  • haha yah i myself have consumed that book.

  • What a brainwash! This seems like a movie from Dharma's Iniciative (LOST). If only we were robots..

  • you obviously dont get it...

  • Consuming banksy's book @ 3:40

    haha , nice message.

  • Don't be a Slave. Stop trying to be perfect and just let go. Show yourself that you are a human being. Not some sheep posing as one! You are not the clothes you wear!!

  • WTF is a "slave" anyway. A slave is someone who does what he does not want to do. people "consume"cause what they consume benefits them some way. Anti consumerism is a kind of asceticism. its fighting your wants and desires and deliberately making life less pleasent. and to not do so is "slavery"? how? sounds like "Freedom is Slavery" And what makes you the expert on what a "Human" is. Arrogance.....

  • I never claimed to be a human expert. That would be absurd. Nor would I identify myself as an Anti consumer. It's obvious that one does not need all this shit. And what I mean by a "slave", I don't mean one who is forced to do work. I mean one who is dependent on something in order to live. I hope you understand. Beacause I have no interest in arguing with you.

  • Consumerism is more akin to an alcoholic addiction than slavery. So I suppose it could be considered enslavement of the mind, much like religion, or compliance with the family unit.

Although the framework of our society IS oriented around slavery. Even capitalists will eventually come to this conclusion.

  • I never excluded capitalists out of the picture. There more bigger slaves then anyone else.

  • they're only slaves in that they're slave to their role of master

this doesn't really inspire much sympathy relative to everyone else.

  • This begs the question all of these campaigns dig at. Why do you enjoy these things. Dig Deeper. Keep asking Why.

What makes us (society) so quick to lash out half our income on a new trend. Obviously ration says that we must consume at certain levels. but currently it is through the freakin roof.

  • Seems like your brand is the exceptional "no-brand". Everything in the video is right and the best way a society works. You try to be different, against the "system", but the system is feeding you. You look like a kid in the adolocence. Tryin to be as different as you can. But like adolocence goes over. Your fight for being different will go over too. You will always consume certain things, and thats why you souldn't fight against it. In the end the "system" wins.

  • Exceptional video!

  • i disagree you don't have to follow fashion because you just take what you need to stay alive so now you know some things are not right i mean video and Mohamed rocks!!!1

  • the people should look more unlucky to make the message clear for everbody maybe.....good video

  • this is one of the best videos ive seen in a while...damn good

  • Some people inject heroin to make themselves happy. But if people stopped doing drugs then the drug industry would collapse. What a shame.

You're full of pure ignorance if you think mass consumption / consumerism has no adverse effects. You probably think pollution and global warming are "dumb" and "bullshit" too.

You know what makes me happy? Not succumbing to corporate marketing schemes and not buying shit I don't need, just to appease a buying addiction.

  • Should have shown cars and gas.

  • Brilliant, this video helps disrobe our culture and show it for it's Huxley-esque 'Brave New World' character that it truly has.

While we are obsessed with our possessions, we'll never really stand up for or against anything.

  • Excellent, message!

  • This is brilliant. If you think it is dumb, than you're probably a good consumer.

  • why's that?
