  • The si did 24 mpg combined while my crz does 36 mpg combined

  • throw the now defunct S2000 engine in this thing, and Honda has the car of the year.

  • umm this crap with no good gas mileage or a normal sized car that pushes low 30mpg range....uhh Normal car please!!!! Hell even a Civic Si Destroys this thing and does at 30mpg stock.....so sad Honda is shit now a days

  • @Niche79 the si gets 21mpg in the city and about 29 highway... so your a little off.

  • It is a cross between the first generation Insight I traded in and the S2000 I wanted. It drives like a dream, but lacks the HP of the S2000. I've owned it for 3 weeks and have 1600 miles so far. The manual transmission is as smooth as my wife's TL type S.

  • @0guiteo Me thinks you should add that little bit of power. Power is so easily added these days that I hardly worry if a car is underpowered like this.

  • WTF? no back seat in the USA? thats bull shit, i was sold on one untill i heard that, i been watching the japan videos showing a back seat, guess ill have to prder one from japan!

  • @justinRkeaton

word is Honda didn't offer a backseat in the US version due to US safety requirements regarding anti-whiplash headrests, which of course- would seriously hamper what little rear visibility currently exists and I should know - as I have one - love it btw.

  • uglyass fukk!!

  • @ThugWafle i think you gotta be a crx fan to love it! and its bad ass

  • Just waiting for HKS to finish up with the supercharger

  • this car has a good looking interior but the rest is a joke.

  • i can accept the fact it's a bit slow and thats okay for a hybrid but why they make it a 2 seater in america .. doesnt make sense not practical!

  • @ismekin I'm guessing Honda's trying to prevent "larger" Americans from complaining about small rear seats.

  • @bethodman I'm in UK so it cost £17,999 and i had the extra styling pack put on it! TBH i am well chuffed with it, even though i tend to have it in sport mode a lot i have been gettin good miles out of it! I will get a TypeR version if they ever make it though! ;)

  • Wow! 122hp woohoo! Come on honda, at least 200hp if you're going to name something a sport coupe. We all know you have the technology to do it!

  • insight was good lookin what made it a little ugly was the skirts on the rear wheels. and you know they are going to offer a better engine like in two years they just want money. after that Honda gonna make lighter bigger wheels, larger brakes, and 2.0 with vtec. and superb suspension. it always happens to car demands from the tuner community. and Hondamag. and Gran Turismo 5 awesome they have it there with the option to tune it

  • HOLY SHIT TRIPLE DIGIT HP!

  • i just ordered mine in red! by far the best colour they do for it! For me its not all about the performance, i like the fact you can do long motorway trips in econ then when you get there hit sport and have a fun responsive ride!

  • @bennyo27 how much did u pay for it?

  • they add significant mass - they should have also added sigificant power...I hear the Type-R version will be on sale in 2012

  • if it had 4 seats i'd get one.

  • MPG is no better than my 1991 CRX 1.6 VTEC...and performance is nowhere near as good. This should have been a performance car with a screaming VTEC motor...I love the looks though

  • @motoxxx174 Yeah, but your CRX doesn't have any of the modern safety equipment (air bags, ABS, traction control, etc.) which adds significant mass.

  • @melchior00625

Yes all the safety equipment is a good thing but it needs a more powerful motor. I drove a CR-Z last week and it handles well but the power is not as exciting as my CRX. Luckily a Type R CR-Z will be on sale in summer 2012 - I'll wait!

  • If you're hoping Honda will bring out an affordable entry-level performance FWD car, you better wait another 10 years or stick to those Civic SI's. Honda's taking a new direction. It's time to look at some better car makers that care about performance people. The future of real FWD performance (i hate to say it) only exists by Ford in Europe. Honda dropped the ball in 2000-2001 and are never getting it back.

  • I'm a little disappointed. I'd hoped for bigger horsepower with better gas mileage. I can't see paying over $18K for this car. Come on Honda....go back to making good cars for cheap.

  • Its good car..

  • Oh Nice!! It's the Honda 2010 Mazda3 with the RX-8 style grille.

And a carry over Insight rear end, which has always been turd-ugly.

Seriously Honda.. send your blind design team back to hyundai...

  • 120 horses??? WEAAAK! i'll stick with my heavily modded rsx type s.

  • why would people want to put a k20 in the cr-z. It would still be slw with a weaker suspension than the civic si. Swapping doen't neccesarily mean faster. It is usually to make the body style you like fast like the original car. This means swappinga b18c1 in a hatchback only makes it fast like an integra gs-r. Remeber the japan eg6, it rn 15.5 on the 1/4 just like the coupe si here.

  • man, i would like to have one, if i got money. but please re-design the rear end.

its just look like honda insight and its ugly in my opinion

    :D

  • @andylie At least it's better than the fuel cell concept.

  • Love this car and I would definitely consider buying one. If they keep the price like they stated around 24-27K then it is certainly worth the price of admission. Fuel conservation is one of the reasons I still own my CRX and I absolutely love commuting to work and back for one whole week on one tank. This new breed will rekindle the spirit of the old compact and slightly sporty hatchback many have grown to love.

  • Small, sporty coop?! If he's the Automotive Editor, surely he knows how to pronounce coupé? Surely?

  • @maaadkat he's american, we don't say things so fancy.

  • lol he spun the wheels driving the car onto stage

  • That CR-Z looks great! This could be the first good hybrid tuner car!!! Love it!! :)

  • With all of the racist Chevrolet commercials on now days. Will Honda still be able to find a fan base big enough to be #2 in the world?

  • wow I was so exited for the crz but no back seat and only 122hp makes that only gets 37-39 mpg makes this a huge disapointment. I rather find me the old original honda insight from 2001 if i want a 2 seater hybrid, that thing gets 60mpg.

Im sorry to say but as good as the crz looks, it is already full of fail.

  • @matrixloader

37-39 isn't too big of a range, would you reconsider if you realized this was only normal mode and not even in econ mode? So far, about 56mpg is what people are reporting in econ in the cr-z.. Honda's strategy is likely to avoid the disappointment most ppl had when they bought their first prius which was advertised in 2004 as a 60mpg car. sure you CAN get 60mpg but even my 57mpg rated insight got me about 45 mpg real world because of how i drive and where i live.

  • @matrixloader The handling is excellent though, really nice to drive.

  • it looks dope and i hate honda's

  • ok, wow, i'm impressed. i hate hybrids normally. they look terrible, drive terrible, and simply are terrible... but this is exciting. it looks pretty neat and thats a good amount of power as long as the suspension is good (which if its anything like the civic it will be). and it has a manual gear box!!! this is a great step in the right direction. good job honda : )

  • Beautiful.

  • i love it

  • either it should have a backseat or more power, as it is, it is full of fail.

  • Stupid. 2 seat and slow.. I don't see the appeal?

  • i would buy this car and give it to my sister , its cool coz its a 6 speed , i like that but its nothing like the old school crx

  • its kind of funny honda siad that if you look at the cr-z it looks just like the 1988 to 1991 crx lol funny it looks nothing like the crx i think i like the crx more then the cr-z funny tho they say if you look at the cr-z its like looking at the crx ha ha ha ha ha ha ha so funny the front end looks like a s2000 and the back looks like a honda lnsight honda got to stop saying it looks like the crx coz it dose not

  • @CRXJDM88 As a side view silhouette it looks the same as the 89-91 CRX, but in daylight it doesn't - it does look better in reality than in the pics though. Red looks best. The black one at my dealer had privacy glass rear side windows and it looked like a van from side profile.

  • this one looks better than the concept, the concept was too futuristic

  • i love the concept model better.

this one's red color and round shapes make it a monster of tomato.

i think it may be good for the Italian, but not for the others.

  • @moshiomoshimoshi nose cone on the production model is too stubby, those wings need sweeping back a little.

  • I must buy one japanese improving rules

  • k20 swap please!

  • @dktorzi why buy a hybrid if you want power?

  • I want one!

Not seen such a nice Honda since the 80ies!

  • Put a K20 in it. keep the 6spd. Rename it to the CRX. There you go, Instant awesome!

  • First remove the security shit like airbags to get a 900kilograms car, then you can rename it to a crx lol

  • @TheHondaTuner Nah, you need the extra weight for all the safety they have these days. Cars have never been safer in the past than they are compared to the present.

  • thats the reason why there never will be a new real crx!

  • it looks ok..have to see it in person to like it.atleast honda has something new.

  • Its japanese you can always tune to more horse power because the engine material can take it unlike a french car for example thats the idea my friend

  • Really?? I did not know that. That would be really fun car then.

  • CR Zee! It's CR Zed you cock.

  • The price of this car is the key....If it's below 15k USD, then I can imagine people buying it...but if it's above 20k USD......I don't think it will go well.

  • Honda released a statement saying that it's gonna go for about 23k in the U.S, which to me isn't that bad compared to the price of the insight and prius.

  • @ImTheBestAtStuff where did you see this statement?

He looks like he thinks hes a magician or something at 1:05 when he says "...and, a wide area cabin" camera guy sounds like he's still laughing at him at 1:11

  • @wentzr I heard it as "wide, airy cabin" - but in either case, of course it is - half the damn car's been cut away!!

  • @ImTheBestAtStuff

I paid $22,100 for an EX CVT without NAV. LOVE THIS CAR!! Don't miss my Cooper S at all.

  • the Honda insight only has a 1.3 and they say she can get like 50 highway. So I would question the mode and running of that CRZ.

On that note though, (and in the face of many people here) I think this is the first actually nice looking hybrid I have ever seen on the market, mostly because everything else always seemed to try and give it this futuristic (ugly) bubble car look, good for your grandma but not for the average joe

  • Only 36mpg in a hybrid? whats the point. A vw with the 1.8 tdi can do a hell of alot better farther more so could a few other cars Chevy Colbalt. Seriously Honda there is something wrong when GM can do better than you without a hybrid engine

  • It is not the mpg but the emmissions that are important for this car, plus it is supposed to be a sports car....kinda, lol :)

  • Yeah that's if the colbalt in Highway mpg only. Where as the Honda does it in the city numb nuts. And like I said yes Diesel will give you more torque and maybe in some occasion it will run 40-50mpg in the perfect condition. But don't forget you are still producing harmful CO2 where as the Honda Hybrid will produce zero emission in real driving condition cause the engine is not even running

  • KoukiR32, I can't get your logic....do you mean that 36mpg of gas will not produce any CO2?! So what's the point of having a hybrid, more complicated, more battery and more pollution than a 50mpg Bluetec clean diesel?

  • I guess....if you have been to some large Asian cities. the traffic jam slow traffic will produce so much pollution to the point it makes you sick. Hybrid will only run on batteries in those cases but diesel will still emit pollutants.

  • not only asia..... you know in North America where there's actually large metropolitan cities..... New York would be a great city to compare it with.

  • ID take an old crx over that anyday. i actually do like the look, but whyyyy would i want a hybrid? im telling you i can get numbers almost as high in my r18 with basic hypermiling techniques. hybrids are trash!

  • ROFL that thing is so ugly id take my 87 crx si over it, and id probably get better gas mileage... looks like an even more ugly version of its retarded Toyota cousin the prius.

  • that thing is ugly just like all the other hybrids, maby people would buy them if they looked better and the gas milage is not that great on them either

  • I'm sure the original CRX could get mid30s to low40 mpg. I'd rather they save the cost of producing hybrid powertrains and put it into lightweight materials to reduce curb weight closer to the original CRX for the same over all fuel economy. But that's just me.

  • love the inside, hating the inside and also it's a hybrid, bleh

  • basically a 2 seater insight with a slick shifting 6 speed stick....sounds pretty fun and thrifty...but the pricing might kill it -.-

  • hmmm, no back seat for the american versions, i hope this is changed in the next years line, thanks for the upload, i have been waiting for some news on the crz, this seems like a good thing though there's a lotta haters... 56 city 58 hwy, what setting are these estimations made on? thanks for the info...

  • @Jshaw71 He said 36 city and 38 highway, not 56 and 58

  • oh, ok, sorry heh,but again what are these stats based on eco, or normal, i guess normal, but they should say what eco dose for milage as well... anyways, thanks for the reply...

  • @Jshaw71 You would hope it's the stats for normal, but it could be eco. Are they going max or average saying they'd go sport on highway and eco on street? Who knows

  • i do hope it's on normal, yes, i do... if that's the case what dose eco get you? but i have a feeling 36/38 is probably on eco... i were a betting man, i would say the stats are based in eco... not that i am, but if i were...

  • all of you only know how to get information from paper spec !

    paper spec is always incorrect.

Honda claim that it will get 36 city and 38 hwy

who knows it all paper spec from company

maybe CR-Z can do better than that or lesser then that who knows ..

  • that look like the ugly cross between the back of a CRX and the front of an Accord , not cute at all.

  • Umm.. wrong ! 20 years later, this mockery is lacking in every single aspect, from styling, to performance, to fuel economy. This is NO CRX ! Thank God they named it a CR-Z instead of a CR-X !

  • You guys are stupid. Put a few drops of fuel in a bottle and light it, and put your hand over it, and it SUCTIONS onto your hand. Thats because it EATS the oxygen, creating a vacuum. So what the heck is happening inside your engines? Gas STEAM!!! You are making just enough heat, between squeezing the air, and burning only as much fuel as will combine with the teensy sip of air it lest in, to cause the rest of the fuel to EXPAND, gently pushing the piston. Unburnt hdrocarbons= GAS STEAM!!!!

  • My mom had a new '85 CRX 1.5. carburetor. 50mpg+. The later fu. inj. ones did even better. Wrong car for the time due to cheap gas. But why not now. I'm all for new technology, but we can make a small gas engine due some amazing things & it's simple.

  • HYBRID and SPORT dont belong in the same sentence . im sure someone will put a k series engine in it sooner or later . i just hope mugen doesnt waste their r&d department on this car ....

  • @Red97Avenger

if they did on the insight, you better bet they will for this too

  • the original crx wasnt a hybrid and gets better mpg than this thing........

  • the usdm crx only had 80 - 90 whp , and weighed 2000 lbs . thats why

  • yeah i know, i just think its pathetic that this is all the farther we've come since the 80s lol

  • we have advanced technology . but the governent limits the hybrid automobile sales due to generating so much revenue through petroleum sales . the war in iraq is really a war on oil that started during operation desert shield and desert storm .

  • Buy the Toyota FT-86 when it hits. This car looks like a damn waste, hybrids are a joke. You save money in gas but you actually pollute more overall because they have to manufacture that retarded 8000 dollar battery. What a joke.

  • You can rest assure that they will have a performance version of this car. Honda always comes through!

  • this is wayyyyy better than toyotas concept. they look almost the same shape but toyotas is weaker

  • I like it a lot... this is a sporty hybrid, remind that this is the base model.... know i´m waiting for the hot version of this car...

  • prius coupe anybody??

  • They could call it a Celica.

    Oh.

  • Sigh even my old 92 integra got more HP than the CR-Z

  • I wonder if they will have a Type-R or Type-S down the road. Maybe if they do come out with atleast 160-180hp Type-R it may be worth something.

  • honda is being fucking retarded lately they discontinued the s2000 then they brought out the cross tour which is uglier than a fat girls cooter and now they are crossing a street racing legend (crx) with a fucking hybrid. NICE GOING HONDA!!! now i don't hate honda i have a 2009 civic ex.

  • How can a hybrid be sport? Does it hover? Does run like Japanese bullet train? Or does it bring plants back to life? I can't believe Honda ditch sports cars for this.

  • Yeah guess what Porsche just came out with the GT3R Hybrid.... so is that shit now too? I bet all you guys out there would just say how cool it is JUST because it's a Porsche.... sad...

  • @koukiR32 will good luck paying for that expensive porsche hybrid of yours.

  • Not bad, as long is theirs a stripped down light version, and i could care less about what engine it comes with because a K20 will probably bolt right in, plus the K20 version from the Factory would be stupid expensive and probably cheaper to build yourself.

  • I doubt it'd be stupidly expensive. A 2010 Civic Si Coupe with the K20Z3 and the 6 speed costs around $25,000. A CR-Z Si with the same powerplant and transmission would likely cost around the same or a bit less since it's less car.

  • ummm exactly, $25k for a Civic is retarded, regardless of how much i love them. And the Si is typically weighted down with a bunch of BS i could care less about, making the stripped down cheap version with the swap MUCH more desired.

Useless weight SUCKS, and the whole cheaper thing is good also.

HONDA, take notes, offer a Base, light weight, stripped down, cheapest model you can, if you want this to be a huge success like the older Hondas were.

$15k is your target, Do it. Thx.

  • what an ugly mothafucka (the car, i mean)

  • yeah all you diesel pro guys..... yeah it has more torque to play with due to it's turbocharged feature. But I truely believe that running on pure electricity and producing 0 Co2 is better. And not to mention the maintenance cost on a Honda will never be as expensive as any Diesel powerplan cars....

  • You know I see lots of people here hating on Honda's latest invention. But I think all you people are forgetting something real important here. Something that's fun to drive don't nessary means that it requires a lot of Horsepower. It's about cornering and handling. I mean how could u judge something that you haven't even driven? I've driven the Insight last year and it's sure no dragsters but it's feels great and handles well for a everyday commuter. So stop being anti advance tech.

  • Exactly.

    MX-5s

    Elises

    CRXs

    S2000s

    NSXs

All of the above are vehicles that are light on power and big on performance. A horsepower stat isn't the be-all to which a product should be measured.

  • rofl CRX does not belong on that list

  • yes indeed, but don't forget, all of the above are extremely lightweight...

wonder how much this thing will weigh w/ all that hybrid tech. under the hood.....that's what i'm worried about.

  • I heard 2500 pounds which isnt bad at all. I dunno though, as long as it handles well that is what counts:)

  • @umrahsahab:

true, let's hope it has independent rear suspension :D

  • :) I am really worried about the horsepower though. I am the first person to say that horsepower doesnt matter, but i dunno it needs atleast enough to make the chassis involving. What do you think?

  • I agree, and the best way to make the chassis involving and to put down as much power as possible available on any car is independent suspension. They should bring back the front double wishbone...costs too much though..

    I'll be waiting for the FT-86 =)

  • true but remember its sooo light i mean no back seat? plus they spent alot of focus on the handeling

  • But they have put far too much hybrids on board which tells us this car could perform even better without those batteries and generators on board. If you look at the germans they normally let you have normal engines or hybrid for people who do want maximum performance or the other. For a Honda fan I'm not expecting a K24 to be put onboard but just a pure petrol engine 1.6L 160PS would be amazing enough. Only putting hybrids in the model doesn't do this car justice.

  • It's not even been released yet. Honda normally waits until the 2nd year of a generation to release the flagship model, just like they released the CRX Si in 1985, even tho they released the DX and HF in 1984. They've done the same thing numerous times thru the years, with Preludes, Integras, etc. It wasn't until 1989 that the non-US CRXs got the B16A, even tho the 2nd generation started in 1988.

We're likely to see a CR-Z Si in 2012, and it'll likely be K-powered. Cross your fingers!

  • Agreed, but it needs enough horsepowe rot make the chassis involving, i dunno if it can manage with only 120. But i hear you...I would rather have 120 smooth fluid horsepowers than 300 horses that feel like shetland ponies:)

  • lol... *hint mustang* XD

    and that's more like 600 runaway ponies..=]

  • So many people forget that the original CRX in 1984 had 76 horsepower in the DX and 50 in the HF. And they were sporty. Then teh Si came along in 1985 and it was a rocket..

I honestly don't think they'll keep the CRZ as purely a hybrid. Honda has a way of holding back the "Flagship" of a model line until the 2nd year of production for that generation. I wouldn't be surprised at all if 2012 saw a K24-powered CR-Z Si.

  • they should make a conventional powertrain version of it along with the hybrid version

  • ricers are jizzing

  • ohhhh yay... a 122hp... like can that thing even clim some little hills? lol

  • i'll get this car, STUFF A K series engine into it give it some badass wheels then off i go :D

  • Ok, I know cars these days take design cues and somewhat resemble one another from certain angles etc... but the front end of this car, to me, looks like a complete design rip of the Volvo C30. I'm not saying it's bad, I just laughed a bit

  • You mean the C30 took the idea that Honda came out in the 80's right? When Honda was building fun to drive Hatchback Volvo was still making squarebox saloons for grandma..... LOL...

  • The C30 design was inspired by the Volvo P1800 ES of the 70's, not by Honda. You just made yourself look stupid, next time try not to sound like such a smartass next time unless you know what you're talking about ...LOL...

  • 122hp? hows it a sporty coupe? :/

  • most new cars in that class coming out don't have a lot of hp so 122 hp is actually pretty competitive.

  • Comment removed

  • The American version doesn't get back seats because 'fat Americans wouldn't be able to fit' I see you Honda.

  • I think yes, that's the thing ^^

At least there's a lot of space for their burgers

  • lol ure right :)

  • The thing is, although I get that they are trying to make a small, affordable, sporty hybrid...a small, affordable, sporty conventional car would probably be faster (thanks to weight-savings), smaller (thanks to a simpler drive-train), and more economical (because hybrids frankly never pay for their own price premium). It could still be a ULEV, and get great fuel economy. Europe is awash with small yet capable, fuel-efficient cars that make the Smart Car look incredibly foolish.

  • It's alright. HATE the back.

I fear smaller cars to be honest. I mean....wrecks happen. Sadly.

My cousin has a red Fiero. That thing is so small. Just 4 doors sedans seem to tower over it. And don't even metion the 18 wheelers :S

Scary. I'm all for more MPG and such but I want safety first.

  • Only the same idiots who bought a prius so that they would look eco-friendly would buy this. Those of us who want quick, fun cars with great fuel economy will be going faster and still getting better MPG with diesels (VW anyone?).

  • @neostardust VW diesels are you serious?

  • The Golf TDI gets 42mpg, more than the CR-Z, as well as 140hp and 236 lb/ft of torque... so let's review: More HP? yes. More torque? yes. More mpg? yes. More fun AND economical? YES!

  • I totally agree... i got a 2009 Jetta TDI, yes it is obviously more expensive but it delivers everything that these new cars so called " eco-friendly and economical" cars don't. So yes VW's are overlooked.

  • You think Diesels are fun?

  • Diesels are more fun than over-priced whoosh-mobiles. A way better compromise if you don't want to do regular gas engines than the whole hybrid fad.

  • you know what the sad thing is this car is electirc and its also hybrid and it only goes 36 city and 38 highway the normal cars in the world are better the new terrain from gmc gets 32 mpg highway and its an suv. when an american car company is actually better than a japanese thats a shame

  • First of all, that isn't better. Secondly, if you knew anything about hybrids, you would know they don't get good highway mileage. And, the city mileage for the terrain is in the low 20's. And, if you knew anything about the CR-Z, you would know it's main purpose isn't fuel economy, but fun to drive.

  • How would this POS be fun to drive?

  • This would a perfect car for a K24. :3

  • @dannymarc You DAMN right

  • ugh i dont know why they felt the need to throw on the hybrid. they're already famous for making high performance yet economic engines thanks to their vtec. personally i think they should have offered the hybrid as an option and made a turbo R18 or stock K20 as standard...sigh

  • Hope this car does well...then maybe VW will consider bringing over the Scirocco :D

  • not digging the looks at all.

  • one thing to say: WV Scirocco

  • 1. make it fun 2. make it cheap. if not, then honda fails

  • Uuuuugglllllyyyyyyyy . . . better yet,

    FUUUUUGGLY

  • this global warming sham bullshit is really putting a damper on my favorite passion in this life ... cars!

wtf is this that the cat threw up?!

    thats a damn shame honda!

  • Fugly ^^

  • 38mpg for a car that only has 120 hp?!!

    Audi A5 3.0 TDI - 40mpg and 240hp.

That just proves that the whole hybrid thing is bullshit.

  • So true, plus this car isn't sporty AT ALL. Fail Honda, EPIC FAIL

  • @someonesperson yeah, who knew that carrying around two drivetrains would hinder the whole fuel economy thing... morons. I liked the test they did of the prius(i think) and the M3 around the track, with the scientists there, and the M3 had better fuel economy because it did less work, where as the hybrid was flogging it trying to keep up. They weren't flying around at the M3s top speed either...
