  • Is this the program which Bobby Prince used to compose music?

  • @ToxicBarrel Yep, it sure is! :D The composer of the tunes we grew up listening to.

  • @E5rael He's my favorite game composer. I like his IMF music for AdLib most. Games such as Duke Nukem II, Cosmo, Bio Menace, Major Stryker, Commander Keens, Wolf3d, etc. And Sound Blaster midis for Doom and Duke3D.

  • @ToxicBarrel Yes, it has to be the sound blaster sounds or nothing! I've played all of those good ol' games too. Every now and then I'd turn on Dosbox, fire up one of those classics, enter a level, have the music play on the background and work on my other things.

  • Bobby Prince wrote music for a lot of games in the 80's 90's, so unless he was using an Atari, Voyetra was the only way to go at that time.

  • I have used this sequencer software in my Recording Studio for years & I still run it . . . I have some spare old PCs with ISA slots for my MQX32 card. I find it by far the quickest sequencer to use - easy on the brain too - !

  • Where can I find the midi?

  • I had this program when I was a kid. It came with a bunch of classical music midi files included, which I loved to play with. I had fun with Bach's music listening to each instrument by itself then putting them all together. I learned a ton about music just by doing that!

  • Hi, not sure if you can get a hardware MPU-401 (MIDI) interface for a laptop, SPG will need one of these to run in DOS.

  • Pure gold!

I want to dedicate a laptop to DOS and this sequencer now!

    ... pity i don't have DOS anymore.

  • Wow, this brings back memories... I was 8 years old when I began learning to use this program. The user interface was that easy to understand, even with having to navigate with only a keyboard at that time.

Its funny to me, but we still use SAPACE BAR to play on any DAW today.

  • Is there any chance to get a RIP of the Folder? I don't have a floppy drive and the setup makes trouble :(

  • @jgaryt ... that's great. I got it running on my (modern) pc after fooling around and trying different things. got all my old tunes back. i was suffice to say on cloud 9 for days.!!!!! thanks to all of you here in this forum, seriously.

  • Nice to see another user! I have run this on my 486 for some years now.

  • @eisenfarn yes, i got it. thanks!!! i used to do all my work up to 93 with VSP gold. havent been able to go back and listen to it until now. So grateful for this software, crapped all over anything else.

  • hi all

yes voyetra rocked. i threw awaty the floppies and have copies but i cant get my voyetra files to work. can any one pass on a copy?

  • Hi, you can get a full version of Voyetra Gold on the Turtle Beach website, free of charge :). You will need to run it in the "DOSBOX" software, no midi in yet unfortunately.

  • I still have the Voyetra "VAPI" hardware too, that gives 4 banks of 16 channels, and doesn't use the MPU401. Have to run it on a 286. :)

  • sweet video ! i still use sequencer plus gold for midi sequencing in linux. i've run it with dosbox but get better performance from dosemu, plus i get midi in. anyway, thanks for the fun view.

  • I still use it, but hey! you shoudn´t be using it within Windows, you have to run it on true DOS for real good timing.

  • Hi, if you use it in DOSbox, the timing is just fine. No midi in though :(

  • @eisenfarn Technically, using DOS your pc and midi interface will talk at low level, without OS getting in the middle. With DOSbox you´re runnig an OS inside another OS, and midi goes from one to the other, then to the midi interface, wich is a complete mess. Multitasking OSs are terrible for midi, not to mention USB midi interfaces.

Sequencer Plus running on true DOS has as goog timing as the best hardware sequencers.

  • Hi, I use Sequence Plus Gold to write tracks for my Yamaha ES, it's much quicker than any Windows based sequencer I have used and I expect having used it for so many years, it's just what your used to :). The timing on DOSbox is OK as long as you don't expect to run anything else at the same time, which is no problem. Are you using a dedicated box to run Voyetra?, I still have my old ISA MPU-401 interface but I no longer have anything it will fit into lol.

  • @eisenfarn That´s the point with miltitasking OSs... if you run something else the timing get´s worst... no way... I have a P2 Toshiba notebook with Opcode´s 2port SE midi interface... check my pics in Flickr, and you´ll see my studio with both PC... one for audio and one for midi, in sync... plus some SPG docs.

PS: Voyetra put the SPG manual online on turtlebeach web site. Cheers.

(edit, I think I can´t post a web address, it´ll go on PM)

  • Hi, I used something called "Extra Screen Capture Free", It's a bit buggy, but got there in the end.

  • Thanks for uploading this. I used Voyetra Sequencer Plus (not Gold) in the late 80s. What did you use for the screen capture? It's very clear...
