I listened to this towards the end of a trip, after listening to "The God particle" and i swear, if you want a "trip" take 1000 mic or close of LSD and play the god particle. Theres something about it, hard to describe what its doing. but somthing comes alive in your trip, and takes it over. Try it!
@Leijerholt I think increasing influence will one day be necessary to assure the survival of life on this planet. Right now scientific progress might seem a bit lopsided - "scared primates with nukes" in the worst case - but once consciousness is understood better, we can change the system from the inside out and find that long sought contentment at last.
One should also keep in mind that a lot is known today (to some approximation) and that finding out more requires increasingly large efforts.
@HiAdrian i agree with you on that but im not so optimistic when it comes to humanitys changed consiousness... history argues differently, but i truly hopes im wrong.. but i think the time we have left to realize that we are doing it all wrong is abit less than what you might call "minimal saftey distance"
There's a never-ending LHC-experiment going on in the upper athmosphere of Earth when the high energy cosmic rays collide with the atoms of this gas mixture called air.. Why aren't everyone so concerned about THAT.? :)
@korteksi Because cosmic rays are more difficult to analyze and control. With LHC you can choose how many particles do you want colliding, at what energy they run, you can control what are the particles generated by each collision etc... In some case cosmic rays have higher energy than the LHC collisions but they are too "random event" and we need more precision to explore physics beyond Standard Model.
isnt the god particle just the new "the smallest part" of everything? natural science doing what it always does.. namely trying to name smal smal objects and call it discovering
@HiAdrian :) im pretty neutral in this :) science have been running this race for about 500 years and i personaly feel it is maby abit overrated, i know that is a kind of radical statement, im not saying im agains science or that it is all bad, much good have come from some of the dicoverys and much bad to, but i dont feel that progress in these fields and "influence over universal phenomena" may be all that nesecery most of the time, its like all religions i guess

@korteksi I believe its because they are not artificially accelerated and purposefully smashed into one an other No?

@Leijerholt You almost make it sound as if that was a bad thing. In each iteration, mankind is increasing its influence over universal phenomena.
