Incredible track, so frustrating talking to people who profess to being into 70s rock and have never listened to this amazing band, great to see so many appreciative comments on here.
I can't tell you how many times I lifted the needle off the album to hear this composition over and over !! Uriah heep still rocks, just wish they would have made it out to the west Coast of the USA on their last tour . PLEASE come back
Take me to the top...Blow my mind ,,,...A journey never to be forgotten...1972...Only a few can know what i mean... Thanks for this ...It is all of my life in a song...
First concert I ever went to my older brother took me....Was a hendrix / Monkees show.... Blew my MIND....The second show I went to was Uraiah Heep opening for 3 Dog Night.... Loved Uriah Heep, and this was the BEST show I had ever seen.... April 1969 at Miami University in Ohio...I still have the ticket stub.... :) I can still recall them playing Salisbury... Great Band!!
Well, they didn't make music like this that much earlier, either! I'm 51 by now, and I honestly don't know if I have heard anything like this, besides this. A lot of good musicians, no doubt, but the whole picture... this is not a song, this is a composition, this is something Beethoven would have signed!
heep 58..as someone who used to be front man with a band in adel sa. and did some tracks off this album..i agree..i wish i could find members for a band to do the same again..ofcourse they'd have to be fossils like me. cheers steve 53
Fossiles... who isn't that nowadays, except slimmy boob sis? Thanks for your comment, cheers, steve53. "We all die one day". GOD how I sometimes love people, and sometimes just hate them.
I am so lucky. I got to see Uriah Heep several times. And to hear this guitar solo live, PRICELESS. Always loved Heep. Great vocals. Seemed to always open up with Bird of Prey. GREAT VOCALS!!!!!
I got to see UH once, just prior to their Wonderworld album, and it was pure exstacy! My main concern has always been, I don't remember practically about it... Too bad, too sad the history of the band didn't continue in a favorable way. But luckily we have this splendid music.
This is just about as close as rock / popular music has got to classical music. I think this is more profound than, say, Mike Oldfield. This truly has a touch of composition, not merely improvisation. It's jolly good; I thought so in early 1970's and I still think it - it may be the best album Uriah Heep ever made.
Great tune, rhythm, lyrics and vocals make this a sentimental 1970s "folk rock" ballad type song. Adolescent heartbreak musicified and expounded via then state of the art electronic musical means (synthesizer, electric guitars and orchestration) with an American bent in the early 1970s for English rock create this "classic rock" long piece. FM stylish popularity as well presenting longer rock pieces elevated this piece into the "personal is political" realm adding a layer of seriousness.

This has to be one of the best guitar solos (and with wah) in rock history. And it was back before all the high speed fingering was common in rock.
