This song played backwards shows that the line abakawa posse posee (or whatever) says I sold my soul. Listen to it backwards. He says this because he is upset he lied about Pauls death. If you want to know more about pauls death let me know and I will explain everything as I have been studting the beatles for a long time.
The reason John likes the Number 9 is because thats how many letters are in Mccartney and Paul died so he always uses that number. RIP Paul and F U imposter Paul.
I'm currently re-reading Goldman's book and I don't know how much is true and how much isn't, but I do believe he should have stayed with May. His life might have turned out differently(for the better). Just my opinion. I do know that this is his best solo album, and as nzlennonfan said, his last without Yoko's input. Coincidence? I don't think so.
@DaveWollenberg May hates being called Johns "mistress" because they had an open relationship that Yoko not only knew about but arranged/endorsed.....her book "Loving John" is fantastic and is going to be re-released in the future I understand.
John Lennon was just magical, a pure musical genius. What a shame , to be taken at such a young age, and with so much more to give. God bless both you and George, another musical genius who also died much too young. These guys did indeed change the world.
Best Voice of Anyone in Rock. A consummate artist. I've always loved this song. And now he is 70. Love and miss you forever, John. It's a privilege that I grew in his generation, but John is part of every generation - now and forever.
Conoci a Lennon en 1979 por la radio cuando me fui a vivir de la provincia a Ciudad Mexico D.F. y esta es una de mis canciones favoritas por este genio de la musica, larga vida a la memoria del gran John Lennon.
The song deals with his death and how he foresaw it during a particularly heavy trip...a dream, perhaps his ninth. Listen to the words - he can't believe what he experienced. Seemed so very real. Something warm - sudden cold. Somebody call out my name as it started to rain (lead). It affected him so strongly, he tried to describe it musically again in the opening of "Come Together" when the joker, old flat top, with the juju eyeballs comes groovin up slowly for an autograph hours before.
Incredible that just because he talked about bringing world peace some people branded him a communist. Imagine that--"All the people living life in peace". I just wonder how long that tea bag has been brewing.
my father passed away thanksgiving night 1980 less than two weeks john was murdered life was ####### thank you john for music and spirit you got me through it ~~~~love you brother
my father passed away the night of thanksgiving 1980 less than two weeks john was murdered~~~ life was ****ed~~~ thank you john for the music it got me through the worst period of my life ~~~love you brother
John really did a good job as a singer and he asked us to imagine a world without war, without hate, with the dangers we have live in some places. In my opinion the world would more different if John were here today.
@Babelfish112 Ah! böwakawa poussé, poussé". There is no translation for the words but the female spirits (Two spirits dancing so strange...) were readily identifiable as May and Yoko.
@nzlennonfan ok, now try listening to the song once more, only this time imagine (sorry) that he is singing about experiencing his own death while on an acid trip (a dream). "on a river of sound" (gun firing) something warm, sudden cold- somebody call out my name, as it started to rain (lead). bowa kowa- a musical equvilent of gun shots, much like shhhhht, (x 4) in Come Together, when old flat top comes groovin up slowly with those juju eyeballs- you'll never hear those songs the same .
It is painfully obvious just how thin John is at this stage in his life. I believe that Yoko had in her eternal wisdom insisted that he be put on a 'macrobiotic' diet. John had a complex about his weight to the extend that he would now be considered to be suffering from 'mild male anorexia' (the actor Peter Sellars was another victim) A little understood form of the disease that affects men. Old friends that met him before his death commented on how thin he looked.
This is perhaps one of John's best songs. Whatever we may think of him, you have to admit the man had an amazing talent, and has had an enduring influence in the world of music. A true legend! John, thanks for the music!
@ameliessong You are so right about Buddy Holly being an influence on John and also Elvis..all three died too young. Their music still lives on and has withstood the passage of time I guess. Where have the last 30 years gone....
@ameliessong Thanks for comment and I too remember coming home and I had just left High School. This Dec it will be 30 year anniversary!!! I would love to return for this.
John's death is a vulgar and ugly thought!!! What a deplorable and inhumane act! How could anyone have destroyed such a manufacturer of life's happiness?!?! His all too brief period of music (a gift from GOD to us) really makes mine and many others' life better! Just think if he had been around another 20 or 30 years...
John was such a cool and mellow guy.He LOVED New York. That piece of crap had to come here and take this brilliant mind and beautiful person away from all of us.Damn......
I see the concept of life as one big dream. I think death resembles waking up from a dream and stepping into another. Life is perpetual existence with no end and myriad of possiblities
some very fine comments for the man who imo gave our minds "Food for Thought." I know his words and music got me though some tough times . Thank You John . RIP Signed: Old Nam Vet 67/69
Thank you for posting. This is one of John's most beautiful songs and your tribute is very meaningful. I remember those Time and Newsweek covers; I was 17 when John was murdered. I still miss him very much. He was a wonderful person.
God- this guy wrote so many great songs. But this is one of my favorites. I can hardly believe that we're coming up on almost 30 years since we lost him. This guy and his mates changed the world as we know it. RIP John.

@ToddSweeneyOnce I have to agree with you. I always thought Yoko was really very lucky!

@MollyTTree I'd bet that without John, we would have never heard of Yoko, which is why she latched on to him so tightly, imo.

@porcupineinteruptus Why did John see May, while separated from Yoko, then?
