  • Hi connie, good song you sing well I have a new Song entitled So I Sing some Sad Songs,I wish you a great and happy new year,GARY V.

  • Who is te steel player on that old Sho-Bud?

  • @BlindTom61 I think it might be the co-owner of Sho~Bud, Shot Jackson...

  • @pro3tlb Think you're right... never saw Shot with black hair! :- )

  • it really is a smasheroo!

  • My God Her Voice sounds the same as it does today!

    She's still a Hot Number!!

    Lucky Marty.

  • Love YAH Mum..

    Lowell Lee

  • LOVE IT ant herd this for years. happy memory's. :)

  • She is great > She is ten times greater than anything country has today.

  • I really like the way she enunciates clearly without losing the hillbilly twang.

  • Listen to how her voice breaks on 'day.' Just love that.

  • Dnload the audio from this track at tubepull doht cohm.

  • Love Me Some Connie She Is One Of The Best Of All Time!!!!!!!

  • There’s really only three female singers in the world: Streisand, Ronstadt and Connie Smith. The rest of us are only pretending.

    ~Dolly Parton

  • @KensieKinzz Don't forget Wynette

  • 1:08

  • Wow, lots of people had jobs back then.

  • Who are those 4 crazy people? Perhaps they simply missed the 'Like' button!

  • I used to LOVE Connie Smith when I was a kid. I haven't thought of her in 35 years. WOW, she was all over the country radio when I was a tiny wee shaver, then she got religious and turned to gospel type music.

  • @markxxx21 And what's wrong with Gospel music??? She is on TV every week with her husband, Marty

  • @bklane1 There's nothing wrong with it, but like so many other artists that find religion they devote all their time to it and then don't make the same music they did before. It's lessens the fan base. She's still great no matter what she sings.

  • she is being backed up by a famous gospel group.

  • Very, very rare in Germany.. YT great invention ... thanx for UL

  • what the heck is all that mess about under me here??

  • I love Connie Smith, Such a classic voice and song.

  • I collected more than dozen of Connie's albums. Every one is a treasure.

It's amazing that the video of this age was kept in this condition of picture and sound quality. I can also see the Jordanaires in the background. They appeared in many country performances in this era. Oh gee, these were the good ole days.

  • You are so Great, Connie and such a blessing to me!

  • Bill Anderson wrote it. Connie Smith made a monster classic out of it. He also wrote her utterly stupendous Nobody But A Fool. Doesn't get much better than that.

  • This is great. I love Loretta Lynns cover of it a tad more. But Connie is amazing <3

  • This is country music at it's best.

  • Sensational.

  • sounds like they're using auto-tune....lol...kidding

  • Connie Smith is just great....however, its too bad, on this recording, that her background music is drowning her out......

  • The camera's over here. To your left

  • She was so cute!!! She beautiful now.

  • SMASHERROO!!!!!!11

  • classic american country song. :) i'm a 20 year old, and i super love this!

  • Never get tired of listening to this. Clever song, beautiful lady.

  • She's beautiful.

  • @tigerbrooks1 - If you really pay attention, you'll see that a lot of youtube videos don't ever sync up with sound. But another thing to take into consideration is that a lot of shows back in the day NEVER used live singing. Everything was lip synced in order to preserve sound quality and simplify taping in the studio. Like @DrMcCoolsz says, this video is the real deal... though I wish I would recreate it :)

  • @cherrydelro Yeah..................today the "singers" NEVER sing live on TV and many of them lip-sync in concerts!!! Think about it.....................they charge you $99 to let you listen to the radio.

  • Great music. Is the announcer Merle Kilgore? It looks like him but I'm not sure.

  • DAMN...what a powerful voice. She is like the country version of Grace Slick.

  • I grew up with this stuff--even though these numbers were already 5 years old when I was born. My favourite number off her first album is 'I Don't Love You Anymore'. My mother calls it a great number; I think it's a very under-rated song. Find it. Listen to it.

  • thanks to zooey, i came to watch this... this is connie from way early on.. i wish i was a teddy bear was the one i remember & liked from the 70's - what a beautiful voice connie had - and she was gorgeous, & she still looks great today.

  • All these so called country performers in the "new Nashville country" need stage effects, smoke and what not to put on a show. It's not about all that junk its about the music and Connie can sing. What a great song!

  • What a voice !

  • Yep, I pretty much do whatever Zooey tells me to.. :)

  • Zooey Ftw!!

  • where is her microphone? I'm not being horrible honest! just wondering. And why is her mouth not entirely in time with her words? Thanks x

  • @tigerbrooks1 ....Its an old video. Take a look at most videos from back then, theyre all like that. And as for her mic...could be either in her dress or hanging above her, as they have alot there. hope this helps answer your question. None of this video is fake.

  • thumbs up if Zooey send you here

  • im 17 Thank you so so much for putting these old videos on youtube I love Real Country Music not what they play today

  • I discovered Connie in 1965 and I'm; still in love with her ...... (I'm 61 old..... Wish she was single.... Je lui ferais bien la cour ... Big hello from Belgium to all the fans )

  • This lady can really belt! I love Connie Smith! Connie also sung this song in French, it's called Pas Souvent. Check it out.

  • if connie was 23 in '65...and i was 17...what a great time ...to be young...except for the vietnam war...the unrest in all the colleges..about the war...and the draft...and the hate in the south with the blacks fighting for civi rights....and getting hosed down with those fireman hoses...and k9 dogs bitting them....everything was just fine...i am now 63...which would make her 69...

  • The only #1 hit of Connie Smith's career which made it to the top of the Country & Western charts. She is the only female artist to have a long running #1 on the C&W charts (8 weeks). It was the 80th #1 C&W song of the Rock Era.

  • I wonder if the up-coming lady country stars of these days could sing as the retired queens of country..Loretta Lynn, Connie Smith, Tammy Wynette, Patsy Cline..etc..but I guess not..close...close maybe.

  • Awesome stuff right there

  • Great song. More recently, I especially love the Quebe Sisters version.

  • Search 'Quebe Sisters Ryman'

  • What show was this?

  • The longest running #1 by a female country artist still today....but did he have to say "samsheroo"? Great song though.

  • @jkingsmill I thought that Patsy Cline had that title of being #1

  • what a song....i took the words from this song and changed them slightly in memory of my Dad, who i miss everyday all day long....it will be 3 yars next month since i lost my dad....and i think about him once a day.....all day long thanks for posting

  • As I almost turn 50, I wish I could go back to better days of people, society and music. Moral and the value system was second to none. Getting older is not the problem, it's the cesspool of society that's the problem. I would like to have been 49 in those days.

  • I would love to see one of the so call new country singers stand still and sing not jumping all over the stage. could they do I think not.

  • she kinda looks like Samantha Stevens on Bewitched.

  • Was this actually a live performance or were they lip synching? A great song none the less!!

  • I'm 21, and I prefer this music to the music of my generation hands down. This is real country--no smoke and mirrors, just down-to-earth beautiful voices with actual talent. Connie Smith will always be one of my favorites.

  • @sweetsissy0218 You can still find Connie on Saturday nights on her husband's (Grammy winner Marty Stewart) show on RFDTV

  • @sweetsissy0218 good call.. this music actually says something and not just talk. my girlfriend thinks its funny that i listen to music from the "20's" but she will come around.

  • @sweetsissy0218 and she's still around. Married to Marty Stuart (younger man...) I believe..

She's still got it when she sang this with Martina.

  • @sweetsissy0218 Nice comment. It's nice to see a younger person appreciate REAL music. Good for you!

  • @sweetsissy0218 I'm 46, was brought up on old country.. even older than the great connie smith, and I hate todays country.... Country singers today have no idea what country is

  • a perfect example of the low mezo chest belt,,, so glad i found

  • Diarmid63 - you are NOT an old curmudgeon - some of today's 'country music' is not what I call country music either. This is what I define as country music. Youtube is awesome for this and there are obviously many many more that feel this way - otherwise we wouldn't have these great posts. I don't know where people find these to share - but I'm grateful.

  • This song takes me way way back. Glad I have her CD with this song on it. It is one of her best.

  • kjempe musikk fra portland 69

  • Que linda *-*

  • Stil the longest running #1 single by a female country artist.

  • definitely one of my top 3 favorite songs of Connie's.

  • Brillent a great wonderful song

    Excellent video

    Thanks Meehall for sharing

  • this girl is definitely one of country music's best female singer, i rate her right

up there with patsy cline and tammy wynett, i remember i saw her live at an

ohio fair right after this song once a day came out, i fell in love with her then

  • ive always loved he music..never really seen her though..WOW..shes a hottie eh?

  • Has anyone heard the song "Two Empty Arms" by Connie Smith? I hope somebody has and can post it.

  • Smasharoo

  • Thats A True Lady Right There.

  • What a big country singer with a wonderful voice - but I have my doubts she knew what she was singing about ( at this age) :-)

  • The song came out in '64 ... her break-out hit

  • Beautiful girl and great artist ! Listen to "I love Charlie Brown" ..... Delightful!

  • Speaking as a Texan I hope WV never forgets this Beautiful country music ...What a Lady ,what a song...sounds of Days Gone forever but NEVER forgotten.

  • Great song, great video! I was 7 mo's old when that was filmed. I love watching old clips like this and see how the fashion and hair and character styles were then.

She has such a strong voice, and I'm surprised how long they stayed on the back-up singers.

    Thanks for posting!!

  • Sexy Redhead, Yum. Gosh what a classy lady, I wish women dressed like this more often. I wish I could have lived in the 60's oh well.

  • such a strong and powerful voice, have always loved her music and voice ,I have a lot of her records. She is stunning to look at as well

  • Couldn't they have gotten her to actually face the camera?

  • she was pretty :) my grandma loved this song :)

  • It is so nice to hear the old songs on here. thanks

  • It is so nice to find this kind of music on here.

  • Connie's precious voice and that sweet sounding steel guitar can melt hearts!

  • When Country Artist Marty Stewart was 15,his Mom took him to a CONNIE SMITH SHOW. Marty met Connie back stage and told her ,"someday,Im going to marry You".......and He DID!! hahahah

  • Connie is the best ever!

I wish I had met her.

I would have gotten married to her.

And I would have looked after her like you do not know.

I would have treated her more than an angel.

I would have given my life for her.

    I love you Connie.

  • Growing up in New Zealand as a farmers son I loved country music! I followed my childhood dream & became a Country Singer myself.

.Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings & the greats are amoung my influences but I had a musical treasure, inspiration & my first childhood crush...Connie Smith!

That powerful, pure, soulful voice taught me a lot. Jonnie Mac.

  • There are 2 dislikes...How could anybody dislike this. Perfection!

  • so beautiful.

  • I saw this movie, "Seconf fiddle to a steel guitar" in 1965...i was 12 yrs old...and I have never forgotten how touched i was with Connie Smith then. And to be quite truthful, things havent changed!

  • i love it!

  • Absolute utter perfection. Bill Anderson wrote it. Connie Smith sang it to perfection. Check out her clip of Nobody But A Fool from the film Las Vegas Hillbillys, in which she is backed by Bill Anderson's amazing Po' Boys band, with the great Snuffy Miller (drums) and the legendary Jimmy Gateley (rhythm guitar). Country music at its finest!

  • The best singer of all time.

    I love Connie.

  • Actually,he should have said MRS.Connie Smith.

  • Here is one I do on karaoke when I can find it....damn I need a night out

  • I was 14 years old at the time and I fell in love with Connie Smith, as did many adolescent boys of the day. A beautiful face and beautiful voice. I do miss those days so.

  • super!!!!!!

  • I love this singer and her songs.

  • Love this. I remember this since i was a toddler. Really,

  • connie proves that young people knew how to sing country, unlike their pathetic attempt at it today.

  • man, what a voice!

  • Connie Smith she was only 26 year 0old when she did this song c ame out in 1964

  • I think you are two years out on her age

    Yours sincerly Peter from Denmark

  • @ceylon1964 Try mailing Bobbee Seymour (just search for him on this site) he knows just about everybody in the music industry and may be able to help you. :-)

  • Amen, Diramid 63". You're dead on Target my friend.

  • It is amazing to recall that once upon a time music acts had to get by on talent as they simply stood and sang. No dancing and prancing about, no pyrotechnics, no special effects. Just a band, a voice and backup singers. I guess I am an old curmudgeon, I prefer the days of yore.

  • @Diarmid63 I agree with you on this one. I love the old days when ppl could sing. Today all i see are naked ppl on stage with no real talents

  • @Diarmid63

Ok, my old lps are a little bit scratchy, but I listen to them every week ... Listen too to "I love Charlie Brown" ... She's the best !! Greatings from Belgium !

  • @Diarmid63 Your totally right

No naked women, fireworks, look at the rest of the singers and players. NO ripped up jeans, anymore they look like their out of a homeless shelter,of course none of them can sing anymore, all of them sound ALIKE,it is about how they look anymore and gimmicks, not about talent or their voice Sure miss the REAL Country the ONLY Country,Down with TRASHVILLE Now a place for Losers, nothing there anymore except Rock and Roll and Pop Singers

  • @Diarmid63 - I'm with you!

  • @Diarmid63 i'd put money on the odds she's miming. not knocking the song but facts is facts, its all smoke and mirrors, always has been always will be.

  • @Diarmid63 you are not along.

  • @Diarmid63 Well put I agree 100%.

  • Thanks for posting this Country recording artist .

  • This is the first time I've heard of her, and I'm so impressed. Immidiately a fan. To me, she is up there with Patsy, Loretta and Emmylou. Awesome!!

  • connie smith was born in elkhart indiana :) my home town ....

  • I can't stop watching this...

  • Connie Smith has the greatest country voice on the planet. Clear as a bell, great style, powerful yet feminine, She is as gorgeous today as she was back then.

  • @pedalman Its funny. When I read this, I thought instantly that the greatest female voice was Anita Carter. I love them both, and after a moment of thinking, I still believe what I just said, but I find I cannot argue against you by picking Connie either.

  • Roksaltnnails , you know you could be right about Anita Carter, I hadn't thought of her , two different voices but they might just have to share the same pedestal.

  • I just love these great old classic country songs and the stars that sang them.

    Thanks

  • From the movie "Second Fiddle to a Steel Guitar", featuring Sonny James' "Southern Gentlemen" on background vocals off to the right. Duane West, Gary Robble, I forgot the name of the third one, then Lin Bown on the right.

  • The greatest woice within country music ever heard.

  • I was in high school when this came out and fell in love with Connie...........she sure came out with numerous songs that were great, but I really favor this one. Thanks..............

  • My apologies to all the Connie Smith fans for my exchange with "BearStar1." This forum should be about the MUSIC. And Connie represents the best of classic country. She just has no peer.

  • SHE is so beautiful

  • We are very lucky to still be able to hear her sing every week on rfd-tv on the Marty Stuart show. Marty is very lucky also because with her in the show its near impossible to have a bad one. Thanks for posting.

  • so nice and piecefull

  • she has my mates name OMG

  • "Cute 'n' Country" Connie Smith: the Nashville Sound at its best!
