A great rendition... If the sound quality was equal to being in the room at the time, I bet you would have more like 1,000,000 views and no dislikes...
I dont think either one of them guys wrote that song, I think it was an old jail house work song to give prisoners hope and a feeling of chance of redemption. But I am not sure:), but both guys sang the song on the same dates not one sang the song before the other.
nice job....to whomever said this isn't a leadbelly song....you're dead wrong...a classic by the master like the man said. was written in sugarland prison by mr. ledbetter.
No, sorry, Sam Collins recorded this song in the late 1920s, long before Leadbelly did. It was a popular song dating back to the turn of the 20th century, it was already "old" when Sam Collins did it. Leadbelly may have claimed to have "written" a lot of material but in reality he "borrowed" more than he originated.
wow that is so ignorant!- of course it's by leadbelly, he wrote it for the governor of texas in order to get his pardon from prison. There are hundreds of versions, but he was the originator, the rest covered his song.
just read this history about this song, i know leadbelly isn't the original creator of the song but his version is my fav :-)

I was playing along to the original recording and I'm pretty sure it's in key of A. Maybe he recorded it twice, i don't know, doesn't matter anyways.
Good stuff once again though.
