  • Think Dennis Rodman, he did not jump higher than his opponents, they are all great leapers, but he could get to the ball faster; or he would start tipping the ball because he had the advantage landing and getting back up to the ball...elastic muscles. Same with Barry Sanders with his ability to cut (brake and explode),

  • 2. Jump height relates to power output, essentially if you jump higher than someone you can generate more power relative to your body weight. BUT, more power does not necessarily mean you are more explosive. How long it takes you to reach that "toe off" is key. It is more interesting to see how much power (or force) can be generated in the initial 0.25 seconds of the push, or how long it takes you to load (drop) and start the push.

  • A couple education points to share:

    1. the measure is based off of "flight time", the time the foot leaves the ground to when it touches. The way the test could be cheated is if someone landed with a flexed knee to delay the return foot contact.

  • that does not look like a 40...looks around low 30's

  • Standing 40" vertical is pretty impressive

  • how you jump like this

  • The vertical jump is a measurement of the distance between your CENTER OF MASS just before leaving the ground, and your CENTER OF MASS when you are at your highest! If you do a jump and reach as USAFGAU1177 describes it, people with really big feet get an advantage! - Wich means, that i can jump 10 inches without ever leaving the ground!?

I dont know if this forceplatetest is more accurate, but im guessing it is!

  • this is pretty stupid.. seriously

  • @USAFGUY177 It is like gold jumping standard. You'll never get close to this with mere screwing around.. Even driven gym boy would only get to 33 4 inches standing launch in 3 years whiles a 360 pounds squat is already present. They're not dolls!

  • @StretchyExpert I've worked in strength and conditioning for 2 years and graduated from West Virginia. I've never had anyone test a vertical jump without a reach measurement and leaping to reach as high as possible.

The vertical jump is a measurement of the distance between how high you can reach and how high you can reach after jumping, from a standstill.

Leaping from a scale is not accurating measuring ones vertical jump. Notice the guys laughing in the background when he reached 40"

  • im a freshman and i got a 31 on that

  • 39.9??,,wow..thts impressive

  • Hi, SuperJump2010 &

SuperJumpTwo2010, on YouTube, A 4 &1/2 feet vertical, over 2000 views, Amazing videos

  • nice hops

  • and they say white men cant jump.... lol

  • not if you pause.

  • The most accurate method of measuring vertical jump performance is to find vertical velocity at the instant of take-off and apply it to the equation:

    v^2=u^2+2as

(Assuming a is -9.81 (gravity) and initial velocity u is 0).

    Therefore, vertical displacement

    = v^2/19.62

  • Or, you could use plaster diecasts to mark standing reach down to the millimeter and then jump.

  • @apmhearn dude were athletes we can't do that shit hahah

  • knees slightly or not, that is awesome. mad hops. wat kinda dunks can u pull off?

  • wow hes got some nice ups there

  • as others have mentioned legs are bent. Eyeing it, it's prob adding 4 inches to your vert. People who should pause video's at touch of the mat if they want people to believe that its a true vert test or at least slow motion.

  • it doesnt matter that the legs are bent using this method. The mat measures air time and calculates height jumped from an equation in the computer.

  • it measures from time feet leave the mat to time feet come back to mat. If your knees are bent as your feet hit the mat, it will not measure correctly.

  • He did register over a 40" vertical but you can notice the slight bend in the knees as he jumps. So may not be quite a 40" vertical but pretty close.

  • 40 inch vertical?

  • legs slighlty bent on the landing...
