The mose haunting piece of music recorded. David Sylvian has THE most unique quality of vocals, he is so amazingly beyond just an artist. And my gawd, what absolute stunning beauty. Sigh ***
Dave Sylvian one of the most beautiful men I have ever seen-(the other was Ian Page from Secret Affair c1979-1980)Japan were way before their time the ultimate atmospheric song...gives me goosebumps to this day
Hahaha! An undeniable similarity. I think Sylvian had more class though. You can imagine Bryan Ferry wearing a tuxedo to a restaurant and rolling his sleeves up...
I've made a guess that every negative comment about this song has been made by an American male, and so far I think I've been proved right every time.
Sadly, I think you're probably right. Too many tense people here, ready to shoot their mouths off at anything. On behalf of those American males, I apologize. But some of us have put in some complimentary posts, too. It's a fantastic song that brings back old memories for many of us.
As an american male, maybe we're all just pissed that we're pre-identified as just "those american males." Quit running your mouth and may you have a good day.
funny reading trovic and his pal arguing...lol. does it matter where tyey went afterwards....this is 4 minutes or so ikn early 82....enjoy and leave it there.........peace.....
Can you imagine anything slightly resembling this ever getting anywhere near the top 100? Let alone the top 10! I feel so privileged to have lived through one of the most exciting periods of music. Now it all feels so lame and repetitive from times gone by. Has everything been done already? Have we really run out of new ideas?
Indeed there is no feud. Tyrovic posted a comment I particularly objected to. Words have been exchanged on both sides. Done deal as far as I'm concerned. Life is too short to argue. I'm sure he'll agree. I have taken him off my christmas card list though :-)

omg this song sucks... sorry, no offense, but i really couldnt take it after a while. and, dudes, hows about endinding the feud, huh? no one really has a dick for a head or anything like that. move on. yeesh
Nothing like an intellectual response ! And I'm gay too ?? Is this based on your opinion again of someone you've never met ? Given I have 2 wonderful children and a gorgeous girlfriend I'd say your biggotted opinion was seriously flawed. I'd give up now before you look really stupid
Wonderful! Reminds me of scraping my hair back with wet look gel, wearing heavy black eye-liner and smoking Sobranie cigarettes. Even then i was a hefty bloke, so I must have looked ridiculous but the girls seemed to like it.
I Loved this then , and Still love this track Now , How "tyrovic" can say such things about David Sylvian is beyond me ..........!! Jump "Tin Drum" + "Brilliant Trees" and Listen to "Secrets of the Beehive"......!!!
You know, it's a sad world when someone such as yourself makes such an ignorant comment about another who is a warm, compassionate, creative, thoughtful, talented and sensitive human being. Still, when you're capable of stringing together a coherent sentence people might take you a little more seriously. (we'll be waiting a long time) I think you'll find you've just made yourself look the 'dick head'
to be honest i don' t really care what you think . i'm totally entitled to my own opinion . but what i do find a pity is that people like your self find it necessary to be insulting when someone has a different opinion than yours. don't bother repling because i'm not interested , is that coherent enough for you
But your opinion of calling somebody a 'dick head' whom (presumably) you have never met and spent time with is based completely on ignorance. Maybe Mr Sylvian (who I have never met) would find it equally insulting based on your opinion of him. People are naturally entitled to their opinion providing their opinion is constructive and non abusive - yours wasn't . It was just abusive - at least you now know how it feels.
A beautiful man, a beautiful band i have loved them since the start, this particular song is so haunting i saw them at the birmingham hippodrome in the 80's and i will never forget how awesome they were
I remember seeing this Top of the Pops performance when I was eleven years old and being mesmerized. David's porcelain beauty is reflected in the song's spooked surfaces. They weren't just new romantic fluff, despite the classic couture on display here. They had real musical talent. Ghosts is an iconic track, so suntle. Their last album, Tin Drum sounds like nothing else before or since. I always loved the track Sons of Pioneers as well.
...I remember as a young student in the 80s everyone going on about Japan, I wasnt sure then, so imagine my suprise when I came across this video and found that it is, actually a bunch of pretentious shite!! I was right to prefer The Cocteau Twins, and later Stereolab and Spiritualized!! Phew, that was a close shave!!
The 'New Romantic' era was so original. This was a time when British music ruled the world for creativity. Japan were better than Duran Duran and Human League.
I've listened to millions of pop songs and I now believe Japan to be the best band of all time, although I was too young to know about them when they were active. I would recommend buying their final 2 studio albums, Gentlemen Take Polaroids and Tin Drum, and their final (live) album Oil On Canvas. It's terrible that they were not more popular than they were. They make 1982 seem like the future every time I hear or watch them.
Gay? ha, that is quite an ignorant statement....personally I would say its a daring piece of avant-garde minimalist pop music....great lyrics as well. But I can see it's not the sort of thing that everyone is going to like, each to their own etc etc...
what a beautiful comment lerafoluap and so true ....u forgot one thing though ,david sylvian has the most beautiful nose i have ever seen ,its straight ,not too big not too small ,its perfect ,the nose of a god !
Sparse, spooky electro gem with a deeply affecting lyric that many will identify with. One of many great tunes by this highly influential yet much under-rated band.

The early 80s in England where truly the most intelligent era in music history, the fashion of the New Romantics movement reflected it perfectly,
Its a shame the mid to late 80s where ruined by the factory proudest pop stars that dominated the charts,
Now we live in a time where the media tell you what you can and cant do, and like, and the sad thing is people listen
