  • The mose haunting piece of music recorded. David Sylvian has THE most unique quality of vocals, he is so amazingly beyond just an artist. And my gawd, what absolute stunning beauty. Sigh ***

  • one of the more unrated new wave group

  • hi, Suisietopaz80. I'm Snager80. perhaps we're related!

anyway, nice memory. i like it. i might have to steal it. good night~

  • how bout that my names tracey and i was a mod many years ago great song and ian page PPHHWWOARRRRRRRRR!

  • Dave Sylvian one of the most beautiful men I have ever seen-(the other was Ian Page from Secret Affair c1979-1980)Japan were way before their time the ultimate atmospheric song...gives me goosebumps to this day

  • hes a pretty lad though isnt he ???

  • How many Prophets does it take to change a light bulb?

  • 57...

  • scary tune,a damp radiator in a soggy bedsit, glue,a buzzing in my face, cold toast

  • ...and tonight Matthew I am gonna be ...Bryan Ferry

  • Hahaha! An undeniable similarity. I think Sylvian had more class though. You can imagine Bryan Ferry wearing a tuxedo to a restaurant and rolling his sleeves up...

  • One of the greatest songs ever,a special song for special people who can really LISTEN to it and understand it.

  • Totally agree my fav band of all time.

  • Wow, this is really good!

  • Absolutely Beautiful! A Song That Sums Up So Many Lives.

  • best sing of the 80's could be better with a small drumbeat in sum places but not so much it turns into pop oor wtf. 1 of my fav tunes

  • The early 80s in England where truly the most intelligent era in music history, the fashion of the New Romantics movement reflected it perfectly,

Its a shame the mid to late 80s where ruined by the factory proudest pop stars that dominated the charts,

Now we live in a time where the media tell you what you can and cant do, and like, and the sad thing is people listen

  • This song is perfection in the highest order, this is real music for intelligent people, from Britains most intelligent pop group.

  • coolio

  • I've made a guess that every negative comment about this song has been made by an American male, and so far I think I've been proved right every time.

  • Sadly, I think you're probably right. Too many tense people here, ready to shoot their mouths off at anything. On behalf of those American males, I apologize. But some of us have put in some complimentary posts, too. It's a fantastic song that brings back old memories for many of us.

  • As an american male, maybe we're all just pissed that we're pre-identified as just "those american males." Quit running your mouth and may you have a good day.

  • classic want this played at my funeral

  • funny reading trovic and his pal arguing...lol. does it matter where tyey went afterwards....this is 4 minutes or so ikn early 82....enjoy and leave it there.........peace.....

  • Can you imagine anything slightly resembling this ever getting anywhere near the top 100? Let alone the top 10! I feel so privileged to have lived through one of the most exciting periods of music. Now it all feels so lame and repetitive from times gone by. Has everything been done already? Have we really run out of new ideas?

  • Indeed there is no feud. Tyrovic posted a comment I particularly objected to. Words have been exchanged on both sides. Done deal as far as I'm concerned. Life is too short to argue. I'm sure he'll agree. I have taken him off my christmas card list though :-)

  • there is no feud the guy stepped into my uninvited

  • an you would of been about 11 when all this was happening .. what a muppet

  • you still there?

  • an oh yeh when it comes to opinions . i would like to remind you of Voltaire . I presume your educated enough to know of what i'm talking about

  • *you're

  • why don't you fuck off you gay twat i told you not to reply . asshole

  • Nothing like an intellectual response ! And I'm gay too ?? Is this based on your opinion again of someone you've never met ? Given I have 2 wonderful children and a gorgeous girlfriend I'd say your biggotted opinion was seriously flawed. I'd give up now before you look really stupid

  • wow, what a dick

  • Damn, this song is awesome!

Only heard it for the first time half an hour ago and have head on repeat since then on.

And Yeah, His voice sounds a lot like Bryan Ferry's voice.

  • Loved this Era of Music...Creepy..and Beautiful at the same time....!

He sounds a little like Brian Ferry...

  • what happened to the lead , is he still around ?

  • It's a marimba and this song is fantastic!

  • It's a marimba and this song is fantastic!

  • What was he? The World's Most Beautiful Man apparently. One thing's for sure this band were good. Never got to the heights they deserved.

  • Wonderful! Reminds me of scraping my hair back with wet look gel, wearing heavy black eye-liner and smoking Sobranie cigarettes. Even then i was a hefty bloke, so I must have looked ridiculous but the girls seemed to like it.

  • yeah, i can appreciat that like, hey good times eh!

  • I Loved this then , and Still love this track Now , How "tyrovic" can say such things about David Sylvian is beyond me ..........!! Jump "Tin Drum" + "Brilliant Trees" and Listen to "Secrets of the Beehive"......!!!

  • how so?...I mean, I guess his music became more avant-garde when he left Japan, but 'tis not a bad thing

  • You know, it's a sad world when someone such as yourself makes such an ignorant comment about another who is a warm, compassionate, creative, thoughtful, talented and sensitive human being. Still, when you're capable of stringing together a coherent sentence people might take you a little more seriously. (we'll be waiting a long time) I think you'll find you've just made yourself look the 'dick head'

  • to be honest i don' t really care what you think . i'm totally entitled to my own opinion . but what i do find a pity is that people like your self find it necessary to be insulting when someone has a different opinion than yours. don't bother repling because i'm not interested , is that coherent enough for you

  • But your opinion of calling somebody a 'dick head' whom (presumably) you have never met and spent time with is based completely on ignorance. Maybe Mr Sylvian (who I have never met) would find it equally insulting based on your opinion of him. People are naturally entitled to their opinion providing their opinion is constructive and non abusive - yours wasn't . It was just abusive - at least you now know how it feels.

  • when i heard this i had no idea what it was and thought it was bryan ferry, but i have heard it before im sure.

its a bit slow to start but i quite like it :)

just when i think i'm winning...

  • Oh boy I'm back in my youth. Mick Karn on the fretless bass..fab! If you havent already check out the album Tin Drum.

  • brilliant...thanks for sharing

  • Simple Awesome, Macic Atmosphere... Great David Sylvian

  • phenomenal

  • bellissimo

  • A beautiful man, a beautiful band i have loved them since the start, this particular song is so haunting i saw them at the birmingham hippodrome in the 80's and i will never forget how awesome they were

  • Those Sequential Circuit Phrophet 5 Synthesizers have such a warm sound. He does remind me of Bryan Ferry when he sings, at certain times.

  • David was soooo beautiful then!!!! Great song too, totally chilled out!

  • I remember seeing this Top of the Pops performance when I was eleven years old and being mesmerized. David's porcelain beauty is reflected in the song's spooked surfaces. They weren't just new romantic fluff, despite the classic couture on display here. They had real musical talent. Ghosts is an iconic track, so suntle. Their last album, Tin Drum sounds like nothing else before or since. I always loved the track Sons of Pioneers as well.

  • ...I remember as a young student in the 80s everyone going on about Japan, I wasnt sure then, so imagine my suprise when I came across this video and found that it is, actually a bunch of pretentious shite!! I was right to prefer The Cocteau Twins, and later Stereolab and Spiritualized!! Phew, that was a close shave!!

  • Absolutely awesome music from a very underrated band

  • zombienation

  • This song is classic! David Sylvian is beautiful from the inner to the outer.

  • second that emotion was the best track. No one does soul like silvian

  • Sylvian at his peak apart from his best effort which has to be "Forbidden Colours".That is one of the best tunes ever.

  • Wonder if he was influenced by Roxy[Bryan Ferry]

  • It is simply magnificent music. It leaves very deep impression after herself. david very sincere actor. With huge respect from russia

  • The 'New Romantic' era was so original. This was a time when British music ruled the world for creativity. Japan were better than Duran Duran and Human League.

    An underrated group.

  • I've listened to millions of pop songs and I now believe Japan to be the best band of all time, although I was too young to know about them when they were active. I would recommend buying their final 2 studio albums, Gentlemen Take Polaroids and Tin Drum, and their final (live) album Oil On Canvas. It's terrible that they were not more popular than they were. They make 1982 seem like the future every time I hear or watch them.

  • 80`s Rules OK !!!

  • I love this song. It's so different... :)

Just when I think I'm with you...

  • What a song! :)

  • no appreciation of music. im 16 and like this

  • I agree. I'm 15 and I really like it too.

  • I'll third that. I'm 15 and this is classic.

  • yeah baby. x

  • Really brings back memories-saw them live in Birmingham uk.

  • Absolutely superb voice and music. Can't be faulted.

  • Gay? ha, that is quite an ignorant statement....personally I would say its a daring piece of avant-garde minimalist pop music....great lyrics as well. But I can see it's not the sort of thing that everyone is going to like, each to their own etc etc...

  • Agree.

  • Favorite song of all time, you had to be there to appreciate, what a track....

  • and so?

  • emily narrowminded?

  • OMF just LOVED David Sylvian !!!! xxxx

  • Love this.

  • oh my dear, he looks so good. i'm in love with.

  • just remembered i was the only girl in school with a picture of him on my files!!

Dave Sylvian one of the best looking guys ever.

  • great creepy melodey of the 80s

  • beautiful lyrics, awesome song, interesting stetic. peace...

  • lol @ willmac

  • what a beautiful comment lerafoluap and so true ....u forgot one thing though ,david sylvian has the most beautiful nose i have ever seen ,its straight ,not too big not too small ,its perfect ,the nose of a god !

  • Sparse, spooky electro gem with a deeply affecting lyric that many will identify with. One of many great tunes by this highly influential yet much under-rated band.

  • I remember having my bike nicked from outside the cake shop and coming home distraught listening to this. Summed up my dark mood. Thanks Dave not sure its about having your bike nicked but it hit the button for me.

  • What cake did you get?

  • An Iced finger as times were hard, made harder by losing my bike to a heartless bastid. I hope he fell off it.

  • An Iced finger as times were hard, made harder by losing my bike to a heartless bastid. I hope he fell off it.

  • lol sorry.

  • david sylvian has to be one of the coolest lookingpeople that ever lived - i mean cool, like composed and...calm

  • is this the original of lewis taylors version?

  • this song is truly one of those pieces you have to have been through some shit to appreciate. one of the most seminal songs ever, a masterpiece of the minimalistic style.

i have always loved this song.

  • such an important song still sounds relevant.

  • looks likebowie..and yes sounds very much like bryan ferry..beautifull song..listen to it with the lights off...makes your back tingle..love the 80s and japan

  • one of the better band of the 80s :)..to me the 80s were the best, music of now is all black crap, and i am not being racist :)

  • indeed, rap is shite

  • LOL - you too buddy!

  • ok what the bloody hell, ur not talkin about the band or music, so go away nut job

  • Hello or yellow ? about the voice, listen to the extraordinary track from roxy music with brian ferry," the bogus Man" then clear it if its ferry or sylvian in evry song from roxy or japan or whatever best songs in this art of mindscrape death overlliving sons from only two guys in the last century they are different sylvian is the most soul, power and authentic stylefull singer, brian ferry is more on the ground exept in a few songs .

  • i really like this song ........ older songs are much better than songs now:)

  • greatsong remember writing in a pub loo years ago sylvian licks bowie a week later someone wrote so they are both over 18

  • So pretty :)Love 1980's!

better then the 'indie' dross the market is saturated with. If your band name starts with The, you won't go far wrong!

  • A SUPER INNOVATIVE track by Japan. If I were in my twenties in the late 70's/early 80's, I would have been a new waver myself. A lot of GREAT pop music came from the New Wave/New Romantic genre. I feel like a dork for being too technical on the musical genres, but I love this genre so much (born in 1976).

  • super

  • Without doubt, Japan's biggest. Sylvian now refuses to comment on Japan and says it is one era in his life that he doesn't want to remember. But he still plays this song at his live shows.

  • er yeah. wot he said!! right on techno dude!

  • is it just me or does sylvians voice remind anyone else of brian ferry?

  • His voice does actually remind me of Ferry's voice...

  • 80s RULES OK !!!

  • Beautiful!

    :3

  • This is just so breathtakingly good. The production is superb - like so much of Japan's stuff.

  • Hehe Torokthetroll, this song used to scare the shit out of me as well. I used to have really weird nightmares with this song playing in my head all night! Scary!

  • sequential circuits prophet 5 synth amazing sounds..

  • excellant sylvian was way ahead of his time!

  • Ah yes, those were the days.

  • song got rinsed. listen to the chorus and orgasm actually no doubt. beautiful 80's trackage - i want more of this.

  • twat

  • go hump a popstar

  • i have this song on my ipod and when i listen to it at night it scaird the shit out of me
