If we had the draft when the war started... many would accept it, many would protest. This has been the longest war in our history, no doubt many would protest and it would be another Vietnam. Forced draft will not fix ending wars... stopping a president from declaring a war with a stroke of the pen will... its Congress' power and only Congress' power to declare war and this congressman stands for less and blames other things besides himself? The draft defines how serious we are. We should never go to war without a draft. The first to go should be the President's kids, then every employee and every elected official from every level of government.

If the child of a government worker is medically deferred, or washed out, parents loose their jobs!

Postal workers or a street sweeper's, if you don't want your kids to fight, you should never make a cent from taxpayer's money. Same should apply to anyone receiving welfare, or in jail.

The administration treats our warriors like a rich kid treats his toys. Drafted civilians = cannon fodder. Rangel is awesome.

The problem with the Iraq war is that people can feel disconnected from it because they think it doesn't affect them. A draft would reconnect them to the nation's problems. This draft wouldn't be about helping the war, but would spark an anti-war movement and create more equity. I say full steam ahead.
