Tigercat arrived to late for USN service in WW2, used as Night fighter by USMC in Korea, several 'washing machine charlie" kills. Remarkable aircraft, but somewhat fragile landing gear. Also had the glide angle of a brick with engines off, although with power on can be flown very low and slow with no loss of manuevering .. Many used right up until 80's as fire bombers.
Almost hate to say it.....its more beautiful than the P38!I think all warbirds are sweet, but the TC looks so evil(yet lovely) it gives me goosebumps!
well i got to see one do aerobatic courtesy of steve hinton and that same one fly with two other tiger cats at the 2009 planes of fame airshow. the salute to the grumman corparation.
Absolutely astounting. You know...it probably didn't need weapons...Just a low pass at full throttle and the enemy would be too busy dippin their shorts out......
"The Big Bossman" is for sale on courtesyaircraftdotcom, for just under 2 million. I think there's something like a dozen or less of these still around.
The Grumman F7F Tigercat was the first twin-engined fighter aircraft design to enter service with the United States Navy. Designed for the new Midway-class aircraft carriers, the aircraft were too large to operate from earlier decks. Although delivered to the U.S.M.C.
I've been up close to one of these at the Lone Star Museum, Galveston, Tx. It has been sold and may be this Tigercat. Another great aircraft from the Grumman Iron works

So is this one named G-rumt?
If so, I wonder if the namegiver had a danish/english dictionary with him, cause "grumt" translates to "nasty"

I had the privilege of seeing 2 of these warbirds fly formation at the Planes of Fame airshow in Cino a few years ago. Amazing. Just amazing.

Kind of like what the B1-b did to the taliban. On the deck, night time supersonic passes that would scramble your brains, if they had any.

Beautiful airplane!!

Tigercats were tough! Fast and deadly. It also demonstrates the ease of ground-handling that tricycle undercarriages brought.

I believe it was sold to a private owner, but I could be wrong. It should be there by now.

Sounds good. I'll stop by the airport this weekend. I'm sure I will see it flying around.

Fantastic, I live about 7 miles west of Chino Airport. Is it going to the Planes of Fame or a private owner?
